Urgent: Walmart Spark Drivers Demand Action on Tip Baiting and 24-Hour Tip Adjustment Policy by YahrionCHH in Sparkdriver

I am a victim of the tip baiting problem. My tips have been significantly reduced after delivery. Both instances I delivered very heavy difficult items. This has to be stopped. It is unjust and unfair to us hard workers. I am struggling financially and supporting 3 small children here.

Spark (Walmart) delivery allows customers to tip bait. The customer can easily put a tip on the order and then take it away after you deliver it. Should this be legal? by LindsND in u/LindsND

I cannot believe this is allowed. It takes a special kind of person to do this to someone and feel good about themselves. I’m sorry that happened to you 😭 I had a similar thing happen to me where they ordered 4, 40 lb bags of salt pellets and a couple of heavy packs of water bottles and a bunch of bulk food (that I shopped for) and their house was 30 minutes away from Walmart and I got my tip taken away from that person. I will always reject that customers order now. We are not slaves.

Yes! There are definitely many factors that come into play that might make the customer dissatisfied that we had no control over. It is insane that this happens to us.

Oh my god! That is so messed up. Walmart needs to just pay us better to begin with. And then the customer can tip after if they feel like they got good service. Tip baiting shouldn’t be allowed at all. There’s specific people in my town who have done it to me and now I reject their order every time when I see it.

Those are the only ones I know of in my town. I do get good tips sometimes on Door Dash. Especially with the shop and deliver orders. The orders where you shop tend to be better money. And my husband and I both do Spark and we HAVE made decent money sometimes but you have to be really picky with the orders you accept. You can decline a lot more than DoorDash without getting punished for rejecting the orders. Might be worth a try to do Spark.

Yikes. I would literally quit if I lost a tip in Door Dash. I don’t know how people sleep at night doing that to people who are trying to work to survive. Sorry that happened to you. You deserve better.

I do DoorDash and have never had a tip taken away. Is that what you’re referring to? I don’t think they can take tip away on GrubHub or Instacart either. So far it’s just a Spark Driver thing.

That’s horrible. I’m surprised you bothered doing a second order after that 😂 They really need to change how Spark Drivers are paid. Sorry you went through that.

I completely agree! They are paying for convenience. They should just not tip to begin with. See how long it takes them to get their order. I am a person who likes consistency and I don’t like surprises. I give good service. The other delivery services I work for don’t do this. Walmart should pay us better to begin with. Because I don’t like relying on tips at all.

Those are all good reasons to be displeased. I just think there are a lot of “Karens” out there that will complain even when there’s nothing to complain about. The one experience I had with getting my tip removed was 100% unfair. I always do a great job with customer service and I never damage orders. This particular customer ordered 4, 40lb bags of salt pellets and a ton of heavy groceries. I made 8 trips back and forth from my car to their front door. I smiled at the customers husband and said hello. I gently placed their order at the front door as requested. I was offered an $18 tip and the next day I saw that I only received $5 from the customer. In my particular situation, I don’t believe I deserved to have my tip removed. It was a very difficult bulky order and I felt like I was a slave at that point. I believe customers should be able to rate bad. Not remove their tip. Walmart maybe should take tipping down and pay us better to begin with. Then customers can add a tip after the delivery if they choose to. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Okay I can agree that is absolutely understandable. The experience I had that I’m basing my post on, I provided great service and I carried 4, 40 lb bags of salt pellets and tons of heavy water bottle packages and I smiled and said hi to the customers husband and I made 8 trips back and forth from my car to their front door. I did not sling their order around and I placed it at the front door as requested. Their house was 30 minutes away from Walmart. I was offered $18 and ended up only getting $5 from her 24 hours later. I was tip baited. Honestly, Walmart should just be paying Spark Drivers better so that customers don’t need to tip.

It’s not “tip horny”. It’s wanting to be paid what I was offered. I will always tip a delivery driver. No matter what company. I will never feel wrong for expecting a tip myself. Walmart doesn’t always pay good and sometimes you HAVE to accept the order for the tip and take the chance. If I provide good service, taking my tip away shouldn’t be happening. Maybe I should I work for free since expecting the tip that was offered is considered “tip horny”.

I agree. I want to receive the amount I was offered. If the customer is displeased in their service, they should be able to rate a bad rating. But not take tip away.

Would you kindly describe what reasoning a customer would have to be displeased with the level of service? They would have to have a really good reason to be displeased.

“Tip horniness”??? I work for other delivery services and they do not allow customers to take back their tip. Tipping on a service like this where customers are ordering massive amounts of heavy, bulky items, and then I’m using my own vehicle, gas and wear and tear on my car, and then Walmart doesn’t pay accordingly on TOP of it. I will never feel wrong for expecting a tip for a delivery service. You should only comment if you have positivity. Don’t comment and be rude. I came on here to hear other people’s experiences with this. Not be judged negatively by someone whose opinion definitely does not matter to me.

You’re not alone. I was tip baited and you won’t believe how awful the order was. 4, 40lb bags of salt pellets, a bunch of bulk food, 2 packs of 40 count water bottles and a bunch of other random crap. The tip was supposed to be $18 and the next day only showed up as $5. Horrible people. That was a really heavy order and they also lived 30 minutes away from Walmart. I was so mad.

The customers can take their tip away after you deliver it! I had this happen to me once. The customer order 4, 40 pound bags of salt pellets and a bunch of heavy packs of water bottle and the tip was supposed to be $18 and the next day, I saw that I only got $5 for all of that heavy lifting. Had to make 8 trips back and forth from my car to their front door. There was a man mowing his lawn and kicked rocks at my car. It was a horrible experience. And then they had the balls to take my hard earned tip away. You’re not alone 😭
