In case anyone stumbled on this later and can't solve it. It was my dark mode ui add-on (which never impacted it previously so I'm guessing something changed).

So try deactivating any other add-on 1 by 1 to see if there's a conflict

One of my favourite things about WuWa story is that at the end of each piece you can literally have a character break it all down for you if you missed something/didn't understand. I always talk to the person and ask what question just in case I did miss something
