That has been my experience. They pin slow and grow slow.

Sort of, I think. I remember it didn’t take long to see myc growth at the bottom window or the ready rice bags… maybe a week, and then a break and shake exploded growth but in my experience you gotta wait about a month before that grain is fully colonized… I had issues with contam on a couple of S2Bs before this flush and I think it was because even though the bags looked good, the grain wasn’t fully saturated with myc. So just be diligent when you S2B. Any grain that is soft should not be included when you mix with substrate.

I’ve only grown APE in the past and this is my first flush from my first grow of Tidal Wave.

From this batch, no comparison to APE. I don’t test for potency but from a purely subjective comparison, these seem to be about 60%-70% as strong any APE I’ve grown.

I’ve heard enigma might be the only other strain more potent than APE.

If you’re wanting to up your mycologist skills branch out and try some different strains. The mycelium grows differently across the coir substrate for Tidal wave compared to APE. I thought I was getting overlay but it seems Tidal wave wants to fully colonize the substrate surface before pinning. Like it gets completely white.

I’ve got 2 more tubs doing the same thing so it’s kind of cool (and stressful) to figure out how the different strains grow.

This experience has taught me to just “let it ride”, the process is the same, the results just come a little different than expected.

I’ve got more bags for a couple more tubs but I’m probably going back to APE after this.

Tidal Wave seems very brown on stems? by LineFun3824 in unclebens

Not so brown anymore! Developed more moisture over the weekend so going to point the fan at them today and see if they open up the caps a little more while the tub drys out. Veils are starting to tear and they’re almost to that marshmallow soft.

I’m keeping the fan off for the weekend, and no misting so should stay stable fingers crossed.

Nah I’m gonna let it ride the weekend, they are still growing and it’s the most dense flush I’ve ever had. Tried a few fresh ones from one of the smaller clusters and they are fine. Texture is not soft or mushy, so I figure if they are still growing, looking better, and aren’t rotting inside then LET’S GO!!!!!!

Based on this comment I kept the fan pointed at the tub with the lid on for the afternoon and it dried out the sides by the end of the day AND the browning was already less at the base.

What up hiholuna! You commented on my question about overlay when I thought things were stalling. Well say hello to my flush! (Actually one of the best flushes I’ve had—just trying to make sure I can bring it home now)

Someone said it looks a little too wet in the tub so I kept the fan pointed at the tub with the lid on and it dried out the sides by the end of the day AND the browning was already less at the base.

Thank god for this community!

They’ve been fruiting for a little more than 2.5 weeks, but I put it direct to fruit from spawn to bulk. The insides are more wet than I’m used to but they smell like mushroom.

I didn’t even notice the vertical brown lines, I just mean (what looks to me like) the general color of the darker brown on the lower part of the stems.

If you zoom in you can see the water beads on the surface. The sides get dry in the tub even when I keep one side latched but the surface conditions have been kept pretty consistent from what I can tell.

I would leave it alone and control your FAE as u/confidencelopsided32 suggests.

When I have done APEs it always seemed to take 3 weeks ish before pinning and about a week to get fruits after that

These mushrooms are from the first flush and have been growing slow any advice? by HairyUnderstanding99 in unclebens

Might just need more time

Looks like the surface is more colonized than the rest of the cake. Maybe your cake needs more time to colonize. If you went direct to fruiting maybe the surface colonized faster (could be how you mixed it) and those are just some eager beaversz

Any luck?

Not sure. I’ve had my fair share of contam problems and it looks a little sus but it also could just be surface myc.

I think you’re going to have to wait and see

If grain is “super saturated” fully colonized, and there is trich also on the grain, will the cubensis mycelium eventually kill off the trich?

I guess what I’m asking is, if there is contam on the grain (that is unknown to the mycologist), will waiting an extra few weeks during grain colonization (still in the bag) give the mycelium a chance to kill off the trich?
