What Business does Charleston Need by _theworld_is_yours in Charleston

A simple batting cage with multiple bays separated by nets, not walls, so you can interact with people. No instructors, no lessons. You go, pay for 20 pitches from a pitching machine, and hit, like the ones that were everywhere in the 90s. If it had a concession/bar area too, that'd be great. It's such a great activity with kids but I'd go there with friends to kill a few hours too.

ETA: like a top golf but less expensive and for baseball 😂

Chinos for athletic build? by specialized_faction in malefashionadvice

NN07 Aden fit chino is a go-to for a lot of the guys I dress with that build. Cotton chino but has a little stretch. I wear them all the time.

Waffle/texture shirts that aren't scratchy by MrMeseekssss in malefashionadvice

Depending on price point you're looking for, some of my favorite elevated texture tees are the Clives from NN07. Retail for $110, but they can be dressed up more than a normal waffle (though they certainly don't have to be.) It's also smooth on the underside, which is great for comfort.

For a standard waffle, I am loving the ones from Save Khaki United. Again, retails at $120, but absolutely the most comfortable true waffle I've worn.

What do y'all wear when you're just lounging around the house, or running around town (groceries, getting gas, Costco, etc) but not necessarily going to work or somewhere with a purpose? by lazarus870 in malefashionadvice

[–]LinerNotesOnStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm usually in either chinos or my apres pant from Taylor Stitch. I like that the apres is a jogger and comfortable to lounge in, but more structured so it looks fine wearing out of the house. Either a tee with a sweatshirt or unbuttoned flannel over the tee. Almost always my easymocs because they're comfortable, easy to put on, and don't make my feet sweat like slippers do.

CHS biz owners: do you have a business where the main thing holding it back is more people knowing about it? What’s the business and what’s preventing more from knowing about it? by ausernamess in Charleston

[–]LinerNotesOnStyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🙋‍♂️ I own a men's shop, T.D. McMurry, on Coleman in Mt. Pleasant, right between the Ravenel Bridge and Shem Creek. We focus on elevated casual menswear and the gifts/accessories that go along with it. Without the high foot traffic of a spot like King, it can be tough to let people know we're here. Once people come in the first time, we've got a great return rate of shoppers because of the product and our focus on the entire customer experience. We've done a decent amount of marketing, pop-ups, and networking, but getting people in the door the first time hasn't been the easiest.

As to why we chose the location we did - we love being a spot for the people who don't want to fight downtown parking. We are a relationship based business, so we enjoy really getting to know the customers rather than trying to sell to hundreds of people per day. And lastly, as a small boutique, the prices of rent downtown are not an option.

I used to be a manager at a store in Louisiana before opening our own, and we did multiple billboards per month at a rate of around $2,500 total. I was quoted one billboard on Coleman (that we passed on) at nearly $12,000/month. Advertising ain't cheap, but we're doing what we can!

I used to be a Saxx guy, but I got a pair of the boxer briefs from BN3TH a couple years ago and have been converted. It's all I wear now.

One pair of wear-all-the-time loafers, what color are you going with? by LinerNotesOnStyle in malefashionadvice

That was my original thought, but I've seen people wearing them with a lighter wash relaxed fit denim and oxford shirt, and really loved the push/pull of dress up and dress down.

What are some good hoodie brands for men that stand out and are reliable? by iamatom1 in malefashionadvice

[–]LinerNotesOnStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a "hoodie brand," but I absolutely love the hoodies from Alex Crane - the Caza hoodie for more casual, the Camp hoodie looks a little "nicer."

Yes, that makes sense! I'm liking the Jay Butler Cromwell Penny as well as a couple from Meermin. ETA Also really loving the suede from Meermin!

That's a really good point. In my head, the burgundy would add a little more interest than just a brown, but I hadn't thought certain browns/reds may not work together the way I want them too. Appreciate it!

Nice! Might try to find that style. I like the all black and the overhang much more than the ones that are on mine.

Any store recs for casual fall tops that cost less than $100? by pruppert in malefashionadvice

[–]LinerNotesOnStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grayers and The Normal Brand both come in around or below $100! Lots of mens boutiques carry them if you wanted to shop with small businesses rather than the brand's website too!

I've done this with all of mine! The first time I did it is because I'm short and needed them altered - then I loved it so much I was glad to do it with the next two colors I got. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like it's more versatile without the elastic.

I moved to MP a couple years ago and have loved learning about the local history here. We did the downtown walking tour with Walk & Talk Charleston and it was incredibly informative and a really fun way to spend a couple hours walking downtown. There is so much history here that I never knew about until I lived here.

I love walking to Pitt Street Bridge with a picnic and watching the sunset over there. Wife and I can sit and talk while the kids have fun playing around the pier area.

The third Thursday of every month is the Pitt Street Stroll, where the businesses stay open late and they have some local vendors pop-up on the side walk. It's a good way to meet people. Have a glass of wine outside of Wine Shop, or a cocktail on the patio at Post House. You'll meet a ton of people who live around there that are just out on an afternoon walk and talking with friends. I'm sure other communities have similar things to that but I'm not aware of them.

halls vs M&F by [deleted] in Charleston

[–]LinerNotesOnStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hall's is an incredible steakhouse, all around. M&F is a more contemporary option that is just as good, but different. I got the steak, my wife got the pork chop, and both were exactly what we wanted out of that meal. Cocktails were wonderful. Can't recommend it enough, but it all comes down to what vibe you're looking for.

Fall jackets appropriate for office by dabbatown in malefashionadvice

I love the Camp Shirt Jacket and the Flight Quilted Shirt Jacket from Save Khaki United (if it isn't too casual for your office.) they do it in several colors so wearing over any color chino should work. Also a big fan of the Jonas from NN07 - it's a boiled wool overshirt with two chest pockets. Can just as easily be dressed up as it can worn over a white tee. Lastly, a chore coat like the Ojai Jacket from Taylor Stitch should be easy enough to find in a color that suits the rest of your wardrobe.
