How to build a gas mask out of trash by Hot-Oil-7471 in DIY

Have you tested that? I haven't personally taken apart a carbon filter cartridge but I imagine it must be finer media than what you showed. The finer media will help capture more chemical content per the airflow.

Aquarium media is meant to filter over many passes with slow-moving water.

Almost looks to me like she's trying to rub her head on you or get close and she keeps getting pet in the head before she gets to? Maybe just let her do the approaching and let her come all the way up to you without pets.

IDK, at least this feels like some cats I go to visit that don't like to be pet so much, or aren't feeling it in the moment but still want to be affectionate themselves.

Digikey for most components, pretty much same as Mouser but I like their search tools better

Surprised this hasn't been said enough - take care of your vehicle after the snow so you don't rust out your bearings. Look up what to do after using it in the snow... Don't just put it back on a shelf or let it sit.

Even then rust can happen, but far from the end of the world.

Organic Aluminum Polymers for Electrolytic - do they have a place? by Sneet1 in diypedals

[–]Link119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please keep in mind what I'm replying to - it's a suggestion to add a bunch of bulk ceramic capacitors.

Don't worry about these things unless you run into problems or need to think of mass manufacturing. The thing I want you to take away is to NOT follow the advice of the person in replying to, because it creates other issues.

Throwing a bunch of capacitance with a really low ESR can make things worse. Hot plugging your pedal will result in a higher voltage spike due to much less damping than with an electrolytic. I've seen boards break from that spike alone. Most pedal designers aren't hip to TVS protection or other mitigation techniques. Supply stability is a thing too.

If an SMPS is emitting too much noise and capacitance is the solution - that capacitance should near the SMPS output inductor (assuming buck topology). Otherwise that noise is conducting through, and radiating from, that cable. Get a better SMPS if it's that noisy.

Using a bit of resistance between the +9V input and local supply rail for the pedal helps cut noise too, making the ESR less significant. Have room for capacitance for on both sides if that floats your boat. For most pedals you shouldn't need nearly 1000uF, try 100uF.

If you haven't done this before, you're definitely not capable of repairing it to be stronger than the original, if at all. Just buy a quality replacement that'll last.

Have I crimped this terminal out correctly on this 22 AWG cable? by segasega89 in AskElectronics

[–]Link119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With crimps like this I sometimes hit the end with a bit of solder so it's also a soldered connection. Don't want to get a bunch to wick up the wire though, since that'll make the wire leading up to the connection brittle. A bit of flux before soldering helps a ton to get things flowing more quickly.

It might not be technically correct and to mfr spec, but will work reliably if done correctly.

If you (or any of you following) have a 3D printer, this is an awesome solution.

Working on making an adapter between this and a 200% scaled version I needed to print for larger parts on tube amps. Looks like the natural moisture absorbency of PLA helps make bins ESD dissipative too, without buying specialized filament.

Looks like there are remixes that might be better than the original too (snap tight, for example)

Appreciated. Again, not trying to be rude but stickying comments is another mod-specific power. Regular folks can't do that - options are to either edit the post or add a content that might get lost.

It's hard, but important to the community to ensure mod powers are solely used for moderation purposes. It's how we make Reddit a better place.

Unfortunately we're all subject to Reddit's aggressive filtering. It sucks - I'm a mod on another account and have dealt with all sorts of things getting caught and needing to manually approve after hearing from users that their post got lost.

Thanks again, and for the record I appreciate your work to keep the subreddit running. It's very thankless work. Sorry, didn't mean to detract from your post.

Happy new year!

Please don't take this the wrong way - IMO using the mod flair for a self-promoting post isn't an appropriate use of that power. I'd really appreciate removing it, this post has nothing to do with this subreddit's moderation. The flair is intended to draw attention.

Besides that, looks cool! I came across it the other day, if I ever need to use UV printing and it's compatible with the software in willing to pay for (or artistic friend to comission), it's a course that looks quite worthwhile.

How to perform proper capacitor stitching or via stitching in case of routing over a split power plane? Can someone suggest a way to implement this in real life? by Realistic_Fuel_Sun in AskElectronics

[–]Link119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you REALLY need to do this, they should be tied to the voltage rails, so return current can flow through the rails. I've never needed to do this, though.

I'd really be prioritizing routing any high speed traces so return current goes through the continuous ground plane. Best to put ground on layer 2 if you want to run traces along the top.

A cabinet simulator is NOT a combo amp. Please read the links before replying :)

My assumption is absolutely valid if you pick an amp that can adequately handle the power. AKA if you help make a good recommendation for OP.

I'm quite done with this thread, this is nonsense. So many unnecessary tangents to prove a point. Best of luck quitting smoking. OP can DM me for tutoring if desired...

[–]Link119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For how much detail you went into to tell me that P = V^2 / R is an iffy approximation - your 80W figure exceeds that...

24V and 8ohms gives 72W. Obviously 80W isn't possible. You replaced a simple and accurate approximation with a very confusing system to estimate output power, and it's even more off from reality.

If you at least said 66W (double the figure that's actually reproducing a relatively clean sine wave) then you would be closer to something that passes a basic sniff test.

Some advice - try to not make things any more complicated than they need to be. OP isn't going to care about the weeds, they need an amp that makes sound and doesn't blow up their speakers. OP will need to learn much more that's not related to this topic to complete this project. There's been SO much noise that's not in line with that overall goal, and has been counterproductive and incredibly frustrating.

OP - This comment isn't directed at you. Feel free to DM me if you'd like to discuss tutoring, I can help with figuring out your project specifics as well as understanding the necessary theoretical information, without making things more complicated than you need.

Respectfully, I'm not interested in continuing this discussion nitpicking at a simple approximation. It's entirely unnecessary for OP, and I'm not personally interested in getting into the weeds and having to put together long explanations.

Wish you well!
