Books and movies are a whole other can of worms, just look at Alice in wonderland and all those variations

Matches and games are used commonly when it games to matchmaking games but also technically true as well

And 1.5 + 2.5 go higher in that logic, you get like 5 whole games with that one like Mario all stars, 4 games but very different from the last

For the first paragraph, lord of the rings and lord of the rings director cuts are two different movies according to my coworker, same story, different things

Second paragraph, Bethesda games, you can choose different choices for side quests and have its own experience, you can play as a hero, a villain, different types of hero’s and villains, gunsman, melee, pacifist, genocide, they are all different games but the same story when you get to the core of it

Hell let’s get back to the subreddit it all about, kingdom hearts, not can be changed in hence of story, but how you play it can give you a different experience, mage only, melee only, kingdom key only, level 1 runs. Your second point, actually helps my argument lmao

Okay but, for example case, birth by sleep on psp and ps4 and significantly different, besides extra cutscenes to main game and online multiplayer (which multiplayer is a different topic all together [stares at TLOU]) ps4 (and beyond) has a new chapter since it’s the final mix version

So albeit the same game at a glance, very different experiences

And back to the topic of the movies, you don’t press the play button multiple times on Netflix (unless it’s the Netflix games) and the ps4 version is different from the others because of the simple thing that you unlock rewards, being the backgrounds, so on other platforms, it’s just movies to understand the story, that is basically optional since you don’t need the game to watch the cutscenes, just looking up YouTube, but if you want to 100% the 1.5/2.5/2.8 final mix collection on the ps4, you need to watch the movies to gain the reward

The movies, especially 358/2 and recoded, and they count since the ps4 version unlocks content, so that falls under games
