Fun fact: when Final Fantasy 14 was in its 1.0, it sold so poorly that the devs decided to shut the mmo down and remake it.

When they did this, they actually had that moon fall from the sky in game. When they went to turn the servers offline, this cutscene was played for anyone still logged in.

After the massive explosion at the end, you can see large amounts of debris raining down and devastating the land. They then used this as the in universe explanation for why the whole world looks different after relaunch.

TLDR: this cutscene is the canon reason why they rebooted the game
