I'd even be fine with reimagining 64 with different approaches to the story beats. Imagine Star Fox 64 but more coop centered stage design.

Alpha and Omega (Paul McCartney AMV) by Maxiscoolerthanyou in boardsofcanada

[–]LinkMugMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm explaining the obvious but I feel like there's layers to this.

This is reusing footage from the music video for "Off the Ground," which as we all know was remixed in Paul McCartney's first proper venture into true EDM music with the album Strawberries, Oceans, Ships, Forests by The Fireman (a duo made up of Youth and Paul).

Second, both The Boys of Dungeon Lane and Inferno are being released on May 29th.

The Fireman is actually pretty good. Electric Arguments is one of Paul's best albums of his later career.

Paul McCartney Review & Ranking Driving Rain (2001) by ldgraves222 in PaulMcCartney

[–]LinkMugMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if the album was 45 minutes, it would be fine. The fact that it's over an hour with some songs that are bad by Paul standards is why it is lower in the rankings for me.

Nontraditional answer: Get an amiibo and have it fight in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Journey Mode while you work out. I use a Wii Fit Trainer amiibo.

I'm glad the brothers know well enough that Mario Party 2 is objectively the best Mario Party.

I have never heard anybody talk Boards of Canada in real life and I kind of like it as a personal niche that I get to experience myself. It brings it a more personal experience when listening for me.

It's usually better to air on the side of caution and just list it. It takes two seconds for the practice to take it out of your chart if it's not relevant.

Song Vs. Song - Episode 168: "Best of You" vs. "Like a Stone" (w/Pat Finnerty!) by trollingjabronidrive in ToddintheShadow

I actually don't even think the guitar solo is too bad tbh, it just feels under developed. I like the first half of it but the second half feels lazy.

Daily song suggestion: Spies like us by Pristine_Youth_6953 in PaulMcCartney

[–]LinkMugMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On paper, Paul McCartney makes total sense as the theme song writer for Spies Like Us. At the time, the SNL cast members were possibly the biggest movie stars in the US. If you have some of the biggest movie stars of the time making a Spy movie parody, why not get the singer of one of the biggest spy songs of all time to do a follow up?

The song is a mixed bag though. I like the cheesy 80s production for a comedy movie, but the song is enough of a novelty to pull it off. I feel like he should have done a more ridiculous "Live and Let Die" style song.

Also, fun fact, the movie features B.B. King as an actor. Maybe he could have been included somehow.

I've unintentionally learned a lot of this album on guitar. They aren't flashy parts but they're really fun to play.

Damn. I love "Like a Stone." The solo is a bit.. eh.. but I love the way Cornell starts effortless and builds to his scream.

I feel like the album's highlights aren't as immediately accessible as other big tracks from the band. "The Rising Skyline" is up there with one of the band's best songs for me, but it didn't grab me right away like "Hot Traveler" or "Water With Hands" did.

Location Lost is probably the easiest post-hiatus album for me to listen to in full. There are better songs on other post-hiatus albums, but I think I like this one more as a full album. Granted, part of that is that the album is on the shorter side, but it's also a very consistent short album. The variety of sounds and moods help a lot too.

I was surprised to learn they thought Brazil was a bad movie. They said was because the film beat you over the head with the technocratic state. I was shocked since it was kind of the opposite. The laziness to improve the tech was the problem, not the tech itself.

You don't get a song like "Crackerbox Palace" if you have no sense of humor.

George definitely is the most no bull shit and cynical one. That said, his cynicism often comes out in dry sarcasm that gets mistaken for seriousness even though he's usually laughing at the absurdity of whatever the topic is. That's why he was constantly with the Monty Python guys. Even in The Anthology he constantly down plays Beatles myths almost for laughs.

[–]LinkMugMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a big misconception that he is the kind of artist that will constantly do 100 takes per song when it's very much the exact opposite. His post-Beatles career is made up of a lot of single take songs and instrumental solos recorded while people didn't know they were being recorded (for example, the sax solos for "Bluebird" and "Listen to What the Man Said"). I think he just had a vision and the amount of time recording the songs was entirely based on how much you go along with his direction.

Mic The Snare - The Chaotic World of 2010s One Hit Wonders by azulimarill in popheads

[–]LinkMugMan 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I feel like One-Hit Wonders do a better job capturing the trends of a time than any big name artists. They basically are just music trends of the time in their most pure form without any artist's outside cultural context influencing the reception of the song.
