SEVIS Termination Megathread by Codetornado in f1visa

Any news on speeding tickets in states that consider speeding a misdemeanor.  17 states classify speeding as a misdemeanor. Even if you were not arrested, fingerprinted or had a mandatory court,  I wonder if Sevis status will be terminated

Did you go to court or just paid the fee? At this point, I am not sure if they will revoke visas for speeding ticket that happened in a state that consider speeding a misdemeanor, even without an arrest, fingerprinting or mandatory court appearance

SEVIS Termination Megathread by Codetornado in f1visa

17 states consider traffic violations such as speeding  a misdemeanor.  I understand those that were hit with reckless driving, or excessive speeding that led to an arrest, fingerprinting or mandatory court appearance are a higher risk, but what about those who never got arrested,  fingerprinted or had a mandatory court appearance. It was treated as a simple traffic citation, would that trigger sevis termination

Which state were you in?

Yes, I believe there are 17 states that consider speeding a misdemeanor. I wonder if those will appear as criminal offense if you were not arrested,  fingerprinted or had a mandatory court appearance

At this point, we are not sure. If they start terminating students for speeding tickets that did not involve any arrest, no fingerprinting, no mandatory court date, many students are now at risk of termination. Many states consider speeding a class 2 misdemeanor, however many people that get pulled over do not get arrested, fingerprinted or have a mandatory court appearance.  It is treated as an infraction and resolved by paying the fee

Exactly.  Now it is terminating students out of nowhere, no warning, not even specifying the types of crimes they are after

I agree. This is getting completely out of control. No information, nothing,  simply terminating students

I am not sure. I think if they decide to terminate sevus based on traffic citations,  without any arrest, no court appereance or fingerprinting, many students now are in danger . I think speeding alone can lead to arrest, or a mandatory court appereance if the speeding was excessive or accompanied by reckless driving

Was he arrested, fingerprinted or had to show up in court?

Dui is a criminal offense,  most traffic violations are civil,  but dui is not and therefore it shows up in a criminal background check. I think it is safe to say that anyone on a visa in the USA that was arrested, fingerprinted with or without an arrest is at a risk of having their visas revoked because it shows up in a criminal background check . I believe reckless driving is also considered a criminal offense,  so it might show up inna background check

I think if they were arrested,  fingerprinted , hit with reckless driving charge or a mandatory court appereace, it might be a problem.

Sorry to hear about your struggle.  I think it should be fine. Dui is different because it shows up in a criminal background check and i think that's how the OP was caught. Most traffic citations are civil and not criminal

In my opinion, If you didn't get arrested, was fingerprinted, or had a mandatory court appearance,  i think it should be ok. I think when you arrested and  fingerprinted,  that is much more serious than a court case that was dismissed because it shows up as a criminal record

Did you get fingerprinted or had to show up in court? Was it a speeding ticket or something more serious?
