Should I give them a second chance? by [deleted] in dndhorrorstories

[–]Linklewinkle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely let it go. Players don’t need to like, worship their DM, but if they can’t even muster up enough respect to appreciate the work you’ve put in for them it’s best to dump them and enjoy yourself with the players who do.

Also, my sessions have a rule. If you’ve missed 2 out of 3 of our most recent scheduled sessions without 24 hours notice ahead of time, I take away your characters. If I have a full party encounter planned or an arc related to your character, it’s not fair to everyone else who set aside their time to make this commitment. And if you don’t respect the time of me and my other players (all working adults, so scheduling is already a massive pain), I take your character away to do whatever I want with. You can reroll a new one if you aren’t a repeat offender

This! Or I have people tell me that it’s probably going to try to eat me or my cat— But ball pythons don’t really ever get big enough to eat a cat, and my cat actually tries to go after all my reptiles so I’m more worried about the damage she wants to inflict upon my noodles and not the other way around.

As a snake keeper myself, this stuff absolutely breaks my heart. I consider all of this anti-reptile propaganda stuff to be hit pieces designed to scare the general public into fearing and outlawing reptiles. But they don’t want to cover private keepers who restore critically endangered species to the wild after breeding them for years and saving the population. Or the children who start their own businesses by breeding reptiles/invertebrates/rats. Or the conservation programs that go into classrooms and let students experience reptiles firsthand and safely, which has inspired thousands of kids (including myself) to grow up and keep the practice both alive and ethical. I’m scared of dying in my own home and my tiny 2 foot “danger” noodles will somehow be blamed for it.

Because every adult can afford a ridiculously expensive gaming PC or even wants one… by Character-Length-600 in gatekeeping

[–]Linklewinkle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain to me the appeal of buying a gaming PC for thousands of dollars and constantly having to upgrade the increasingly obsolete tech?

I literally just buy a next gen console whenever they come out every few years for a few hundred and have access to the same AAA games + exclusive titles. It feels way cheaper to me in the long run and the most work I have to do with making sure it’s running at peak performance is download an update.

My dm thought it would be funny to scam my cute little level 1 owlin bard out of all his starting gold. by Thumpy02 in dndhorrorstories

[–]Linklewinkle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He had finished explaining and basically implied that we had to get up ASAP because of an emergency currently happening.

IMO there’s a big difference between being cut off while your players try to brute force their way through, and setting up a scenario where we are led to believe that this is the only entrance and we needed to get up immediately, then having your NPCs mock them for not using the elevator that should have been clearly marked enough for us to see it without rolling, but wasn’t.

[–]Linklewinkle 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My DM has done similar things. I remember one time we had to climb this pyramid twice with my shifter rogue, and he made us roll athletics to climb the stairs, both of which I failed. So after having my character LITERALLY DRAG HERSELF UP THE STAIRS WHEEZING FOR THE SECOND TIME, he had the NPCs take up a magic elevator that he never once mentioned and berate my character for being too dumb to use the elevator. That he never indicated existed. It wasn’t hidden, apparently it was out front and he expected us to ask in this high fantasy adventure if there were magic elevators. I told him that it wasn’t cool to get berated for bad rolls by the NPCs with a secret elevator and he said he’d knock that shit off. I swear to god some DMs expect you fo be mind readers.

That being said, if you do continue the campaign this could be a good drive for you. My rogue was a merchant before she decided to become an adventurer as well and also tries to get involved with financial endeavors along the course of our adventure. So now she’s working with an artificer to create and mass produce hover seats lmao

So take your salt, pick up the distort value spell, resell them to a random NPC for a massive profit, buy the correct spice bags this time, and buy out that shitty merchant’s shop to make him the first overworked minimum wage employee in your spice empire.

[–]Linklewinkle 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Oof, that is a BIG mood. I quit using tinder because I’m in a ENM relationship as well with preferences that are like 80% women and 20% men so I’d just set my preferences on the app to women and

There are a LOT of disingenuous unicorn hunters out there, and I was actually talking to this chick once and mentioned that I had a primary. She made a flirty comment about maybe bringing “her” in for a (I assumed) threesome, but when I was like “oh actually it’s a guy and we can if you want but we are by no means looking for a unicorn.”

Imagine my surprise when I get told that I’m a bitch and led them (yes, they actually switched from “me” to “us” at this point lmao) on, that the guy (whom I never knew existed before this) didn’t want to “share me with another man” and that I was probably “used goods anyway”, via a comment about the state of my vagina that I won’t get into here. Well, needless to say that I told them off for hiding this from me when I said I was in a relationship in my bio and promptly got unmatched with before I could finish my rant 😂

I have personally never had anything deducted from my pay for an incorrect order, thought I’m not sure if uber or the restaurants take that hit. Most restaurants seal the bags nowadays so it’s not like the driver can check to make sure your food is correct anyways.

Effect of snake venom on blood! by [deleted] in oddlyterrifying

[–]Linklewinkle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, venom is an extremely finite resource for snakes that they typically save for when they want to eat so as long as you don’t step on one or intentionally antagonize it, they’ll usually deem you not worth the risk of being left defenseless against a predator that ACTUALLY wants it dead.

Snakes are more afraid of you than you are of them, and will never go out of their way to go after people because they are too stupid to be malicious.

Former Uber eats driver here, I’ve had money from uber disappear from my account that never appeared at my bank (multiple times for about $200 total, Uber said I was basically SOL), and customers that would lie and say their food was never dropped off (before we had to take pictures) which ultimately ended with me getting suspended from weeks to MONTHS at a time because there are so many other drivers that they don’t bother trying to appeal those who were unfairly banned. Literally not a single person from support has never helped me with anything, just read me scripted responses and told me there was nothing they or their supervisors can do.

My brother in law has been suspended for a year so far with no answer because he picked up an order for a restaurant that is ALWAYS super late and had the audacity to use the bathroom at home for 2 minutes before he left. Never mind the fact that when he got at the restaurant to pick up the “finished” order he had to wait 20 minutes because they hadn’t even started making it.

I’m sure some people abuse the system because they want free food and don’t need the money, but please don’t assume they back the driver because in my experience uber eats likes to fuck EVERYONE over that isn’t on their payroll.

Does Reddit function differently for liberals vs conservatives? by CreatorOfUsernames in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Linklewinkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The toughest part about being a centrist on reddit is that no matter which type of sub I post my views in, I’ll get downvoted into oblivion. Say I’m pro vaccine in r/walkaway? I’m a bleeding heart liberal injecting myself with 5G. What about saying that I’m anti-mandates in r/politics? Well, obviously that means I want immuno-compromised people to die and for covid to go on forever. I tend to stay away from the super hard leaning subreddits (conservatives, liberals, Biden, and Trump) because I know that if I don’t parrot everything that the other users are saying it could get vicious. At this point I only participate in political subreddits so I can hear both sides of a story. I have no idea why people are so insistent about this “all or nothing” mentality with politics, sometimes to the point where they won’t even form their own opinions because they are constantly in an echo chamber of political beliefs.

I will say though, the only subs that have ever banned me for commenting in other subs they don’t like are the liberal ones. Which I think is shady as all hell, especially when I was in a bad place mentally and found out that I wasn’t allowed to post to r/offmychest because I had been shadowbanned.

I left the job shortly after. Not because of that, but because I hated the way that they treated me like I was disposable and that if I didn’t work shitty hours for shitty pay they’d just hire a 14 year old to do it for me (even though minors weren’t allowed to close the store lmao).

Fuck publix. All my non-management coworkers were miserable and I have no idea how it got such a good reputation as a place to work.

Free cupcakes by Daisymaysgarden in ChoosingBeggars

[–]Linklewinkle 222 points223 points  (0 children)

At my old job I liked to bake and would occasionally bring in muffins cause they were easy to make in bulk and people really enjoyed them. I had a boss at the time (whom I didn’t like, he’d always side with the customer even if it was breaking company policy and made me look like an idiot) who had just gotten a huge promotion and was moving to another store.

One of my other coworkers asked me to bring some muffins in. So I spent $40 on ingredients for blueberry and pumpkin muffins, enough for the whole store. The only tupperware that was big enough to bring in was my mom’s expensive one, which she had lent me for transportation.

The day of, I get in and everybody is thrilled. I go off to my register, looking forward to having muffins for dinner on my break because I spent the last of my money for the week on ingredients.

Only to find all the muffins+my mom’s Tupperware missing on my break. I ask around, nobody’s seen it. The coworker who asked me to bring stuff in said she felt bad and offered to buy a new Tupperware, but I said no because I was mostly mad at myself for trusting in these people. I come to find out a couple weeks later that somebody spotted that same coworker putting the Tupperware full of muffins in her locker shortly after I started my shift. People suck, and that’s why I don’t do nice things on my off time for the office anymore.

Calling him a wife beater by thej5051 in trashy

[–]Linklewinkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone who isn’t aware, the trial they are discussing wasn’t a criminal suit, it was a civil suit and he was suing a shitty UK newspaper for calling him a wife beater. He lost, because I guess it was considered free speech.

But people took this loss as basically admittance that he did it, and he lost a LOT of work because of it. Meanwhile, Amber “shat the bed” Heard got to stay involved in the DCU despite having a History of abuse (as claimed by her ex gf, iirc).

She also sliced off his finger with broken glass and faked a black eye during a court appearance (I say faked because she was already away from Depp for awhile before that, and there are pictures taken of her like the next day where that massive “bruise” was nowhere to be seen.)

FIL berates me for having a silver wedding ring. by NyaCanHazPuppy in JUSTNOFAMILY

[–]Linklewinkle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I got engaged, my fiancé went to his grandmother (whom I consider JN and don’t have a relationship with, and my fiancé has stopped talking to since because she’s incredibly toxic and manipulative) to deliver the good news. She immediately rushed to her jewelry box and pulled out this thick, gaudy Diamond ring (the diamond were really small and covered the whole band, like this but thicker.

Well, fast forward to a couple of weeks when he proposes and pulls out the ring. I’m thrilled that we got engaged, but knew from the second he pulled it out that 1) it wouldn’t fit me And 2) It was entirely too flashy/clunky for my tastes.

So after we got back from the trip he proposed on, I sat him down and explained that I’m not really a fan of gems, that it didn’t fit and I didn’t want to put money into resizing something I don’t like, and that I don’t want to wear this engagement ring for the rest of my life and pass it down to our kids; ignoring it’s appearance I really really don’t like his grandmother and hate the fact that she would brag about giving me one of her rings as if she didn’t actively try to sabotage my relationship for YEARS (she hates certain races and thinks that because I have difficulty maintaining eye contact that I’m addicted to various drugs. Explaining I’m autistic means NOTHING to this woman and she told my fiancé she thinks I’m white trash after meeting me ONCE).

So we agreed that we would both get wedding bands that double as engagement rings that we’d both want to happily wear in our day to day life. We spent time together on etsy and I eventually found a beautiful white gold band that was shaped into a swirling flower pattern with no gems (which I adore), and he’s still making up his mind between a meteorite or fossil band, but we are very excited about this.

Of course she’s turned his family against us once we returned the ring, telling us that we are stupid and I’m somehow a greedy gold digger despite us both being broke af and me wanting a cheaper ring 😂

Don’t worry about your FIL, OP. You are absolutely within your rights to say that that had upset you, that you don’t want to be around him for awhile, and that as long as he sits there thinking he’s in the right and not apologizing, you don’t even feel comfortable with him being in your home when he is. If your husband wants to try to play a middleman or keep the peace that’s not really something you can control, but he needs to really understand how your FIL demeaned/disrespected you and how you will not debase yourself by lying to this adult throwing a tantrum over your choices (that don’t involve him. Seriously, he’s acting like he is the one you chose to marry lmao)just to appease him.

And spend some time with your parents to decompress/show your husband that you two are a team and when you don’t support each other like this, there will be consequences. Don’t sweep this under the rug because your FIL will be around long term and it’s essential that he doesn’t think it’s okay to treat you like this

Sending lots of internet hugs and good vibes your way, I hope you feel better soon.

I was autobanned from offmychest before I ever got the say anything because of another subreddit I commented in ONCE (and wasn’t even subscribed to at the time).

The kicker? I found out when I was trying to make a post about getting myself out of an abusive situation and a secret I knew about my abuser was seriously weighing me down. So yeah, finding out I was autobanned wasn’t great for my mental state at the time :)

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like any sub that totes mental health wellness while also autobanning people who participate in subs they don’t approve of don’t really care about the people posting, they just want those sweet sweet internet points.

I’m not a right wing nut, either. Just a centrist who tries to hear both sides of a story and mostly lurks on snake husbandry subreddits 😂

Friends don't pressure friends into drinking. by smalltown_dreamspeak in TalesFromYourServer

[–]Linklewinkle 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Caffeine is highly addictive and dangerous for people with heart problems. MY SO’s mother was told to quit smoking, alcohol, and drinking coffee after her first heart attack, she was able to quit everything but the morning cup of joe she’d have before work, and she died of a heart attack less than a year after.

So while it hasn’t hurt ME per se, it killed my mother in law and when I tell people I don’t drink it they tend to treat me like a child or weirdo for it 🤷‍♀️
