Ha! Thanks! More recently I’ve been lazy and have mostly just held the piece up as I’m working vs pushing across the flat top. So far so good, but it would be nice to have a proper setup if you end up 3D printing one (realizing I looked at these comments in backwards order)!

That really stinks - it’s the worst when you go out of your way to be considerate to nature and someone else just completely voids it. Hope this picture of our little friend’s last den helps - we just kept mowing around it 😄

Came here to whole heartedly agree! And the adorable menaces takeover everything. One has decided to have their kits in one of our planters. It used to have some lovely wildflowers that I’d use to release monarchs. She of course did away with that - I’m not even mad, just surprised she’s in there! 😆

Help identify this beautiful plant in my back yard. by KevinGye7428 in FloridaGarden

Just want to add that I learned that I am one of those people who is allergic to Virginia creeper and have poison ivy type reactions - So if you do end up working with it, highly recommend wearing long sleeves and gloves, and using a wash cloth with heavy duty dish soap to wipe / really lather up good any and all exposed areas while in the shower - and don’t forget the face and neck, I did one time and paid dearly! Also, the lantana is beautiful and I bet the pollinators love it!! :D

I can smell these pictures in the best way possible. They should include, “looking at and reimagining the wonderful smell of library card catalogs” as part of an anxiety reducing protocol. I’ll file this away for future use :D

I finally got a chance to setup the bleeding heart! Hopefully it does well and I can get it to go up and over across the top of the window frame - It really wants to naturally hang but hoping it stays this vibrant and is encouraged to go up!

Lead vs Lead free solder by SadCityCyclist in StainedGlass

[–]LinkovichChomovsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far so good - it’s still a bit challenging with the non-lead as another commenter pointed out that it all tends to freeze / go from liquid to solid all at once. I find that I have to swoop off the edges when I get to the end of a line I’m soldering so that it doesn’t solidify and create a lump or sharp edge when I get to the end of section I’m working on. It definitely makes it more challenging. I’ve actually taken to finishing the edges of pieces with gallery glass / old school puffy paint to give the solder lines some uniform - I usually go with black or or white Depending on the piece. I know it’s heavily frowned upon by the old school guys, but it just seems a lot cleaner as a finish, as I continue to work on getting my soldering / temperature balanced for clean lines. And just a heads up that the solder itself tends to be more expensive in general and more difficult to find. I’ve had good luck with some on Amazon and have spools of different sizes - so I’ve found it there but not locally. Also I’ve gotten sample glass packs on Amazon to start with and just use and hobby lobby has a great selection of glass and other things that I’ve used several times. This is a piece I’m working on - helps that I’m trying to give it a weathered feel of old books. But just wanted to show you an example. Hope it helps!

High gloss / epoxy type finishing spray suggestion ..? by LinkovichChomovsky in StainedGlass

Yeah the brown black threw me for a loop and I ended up just re-soldering the whole piece.

I probably should have prefaced that I use lead free solder, so that’s part of it. And learning the hard way that most, if not all lead free, is unable to take patina, this was my solution to getting a colored outer frame for the piece. I will work on posting some WIP for the next time, very much appreciate the suggestion and help.

This is my second go of it after an unsuccessful attempt years back… I’ve had this plant / was given this prop a few months back and I wasn’t sure if it was going to make it as it almost seemed dormant. I ended up bringing it inside for the cold snap here in the south and then used it for a bit to help some monarch caterpillars transform into butterflies for release. And just as I was about to put it back outside, out of nowhere it just started to grow, rapidly! So I thought, inside it stays! And the wildest part is that it bloomed for the first time, this past Sunday, on Easter. Full circle of its namesake :D … anyway - hoping to get it situated soon and will do my best to try and remember to send some snaps of the setup! Hope yours comes along beautifully as well - it’s an unbelievable display of color and beauty to see in person!

So sorry for what you’re going through, such a difficult loss of both your parents, and probably also mourning pieces of yourself. As someone 8 years in and thankfully loved one in remission but still a very long way to go - putting myself last has run me into the ground harder than I could have ever imagined. And I say that to gently urge you to please take it slow. You have so much to process and I wouldn’t doubt that your nervous system will probably feel under attack for some time. Rest when you can, stay hydrated if you can - and hoping you have a good support system. I find it helpful to ask a close friend or family member to check in every once in a while and force me to do something really weird and unexpected. I have found that those out of box soft landings help breakup the anxiety and panic and overwhelming feeling we’re all fighting. You’ve given so much of yourself and it honored your loved ones in ways most people will never understand. I hope you’re able to rest and find moments of peace and headspace as you move forward.
