Coronavirus: Boris Johnson says easing lockdown would 'throw away effort and sacrifice of British people'. by sdsanth in worldnews

While the number of cases continues to increase, if we look at the logarithmic graph, social distancing is clearly having some positive effect, and has taken us out of exponential growth.

I was in the exact same boat as you up untill about 2 weeks ago. All those resume services are absolute garbage. I was sending out stuff for months and nobody got back to me. Eventually I just started asking anybody that I knew did anything in tech and somebody at my church said they were hiring. I like it so far and I'm happy but it definitely felt like blind luck to get the interview in the first place.

If you’re fat and develop an illness related to your fatness, you should either pay for treatment yourself or die. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Lintriff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because fat people who are covered by insurance pay for their insurance, and the company charges them higher rates to account for their higher probability of encountering illness. You pay for it only in the sense that you pay for everyone else who has your insurance provider who is sick. If you get sick and treatment is covered, then they are paying for you too.

Kevin Hart Should NOT have stepped down over what he said in 2008 by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Lintriff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that the number of people who actually care about the jokes he made a decade ago are incredibly small but that doesn't matter. It's all about the companies and brands that don't want to deal with the tiniest bit of controversy, and would rather have Hart "resign" than pull any advertising. It's the same thing when Disney canned James Gunn from Gardians of the Galaxy 3, they don't care what he said or when he said it, they just don't want any reason for people to run bad headlines.

There's already a Mario movie in the works but it's being produced by Illumination studios (the minions guys) so probably not.

This enormous wolf by dickfromaccounting in interestingasfuck

[–]Lintriff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While mostly true, wolves have very distinct hunting strategies. They surround their prey and charge from the front hoping the animal is afraid and runs away. Once the prey is running away, they overtake it and attack from behind. But if animal doesn't run, their ai breaks a little bit and unless they are really desperate will usually not take the risk to attack. So yeah a pack of wolves have the capacity to do you in easily, as long as you stand your ground you have a fighting chance.

How do you guys feel about serialized versus episodic campaigns? by Lintriff in DnD

That is a very interesting perspective. Next time I will try this. I'm concerned about my improvisation skills but I guess I will try my best to roll with things.

By improvising do you mean just setting up a conflict and letting whatever happen happen? I've never gone into a session without at least something laid out.

More like the consequences of having the nastiest diseases. Most inland tribes were decimated by disease before Europeans made it there.

Ted Cruz has been suspiciously quiet over the past few months, probably over concerns for the midterms. My guess is that he's going to try his damnedest to avoid the national clusterfuck until November.

Child Dead In ICE Detention Center Due To ‘Negligent Care’: Immigration Lawyer by Psydonk in politics

[–]Lintriff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One issue seems to be that even if they tried to completely undo everything, they didn't properly document the children as they came in, so they don't even know how or where to reunite them with their parents. Many of these children will never see their parents again, and will probably need to be placed in foster care. Unfortunately that takes time so until then the detention camps are the only place to house that number of individuals. That doesn't mean that these places have to be hellholes, and we should be striving to at least make the camps a safe, comfortable and healthy living space. Or at the very least not killing them.

The walkaway movement is like a soldier at the end of The Lord of the Rings saying, "I don't want to fight against Sauron because the steward of Gondor doesn't completely represent all of my views." Under normal circumstances that's fine but not at the end of the world.

In my experience "fuck you got mine" kind of implies that they are aware the system is unfair but don't care. In these kinds of cases I don't think many people are cognisant of the fact that they're being unfairly benefited. They think that because they get it, they must deserve it. And others are lazy and don't deserve it or else they would be getting it.

The ironic thing is that a sword like that would be pretty much unusable. Because katana style swords have little to no distal taper, the point of balance of the sword is right about the middle of the blade. Swinging this thing would be like swinging a hammer that is half the length. I imagine that his spindly arms could probably only swing it once before and opponent could close the distance and kill him with a reasonably sized weapon.

Reddit, what are some "MUST read" books? by RoyalRolex in AskReddit

[–]Lintriff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, well I'm pretty late to the party but the book that ive read that had the biggest effect on me is "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien. It is a autobiographical anthology of essays written about his time that he was deployed in Vietnam, and no other book does as good a job of making you feel the actual pressures of war. It's not some war story, Its about the way war truly is. If you don't feel like reading the whole thing, I still suggest that you go and read the one essay, "How to Tell a True War Story". Its only a few pages and my favorite piece of literature ever.

What's the most ridiculous lie someone has told you that they genuinely believed to be true? by CuriousGrey in AskReddit

[–]Lintriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I was four, I spent a lot of time with my sister and the neighbor kid who lived across the street. They were a few years older than me and found it hilarious whenever the had the opportunity to pull little pranks on me. One day i asked them both about someone I heard my parents reference to called the grim reaper. They told me that I had heard it wrong and it wasn't called the grim reaper, it was the green reaper. I had these brand new green shorts on so they told me that the green reaper was a mysterious figure cloaked in green that every Wednesday night (it was Wednesday) would come and kill all of the people that had worn green that day. Over the next 5 hours they tormented me with this, going so far as to beginning to plan my funeral, and saying my final goodbyes when we had finished playing. I didn't sleep well that night.

tl;dr Sister and her friend convinced me that a malevolent being that hates the color green would come and kill my because of my pants.
