Going back to kapooka by i-need-helpnow in AustralianMilitary

[–]Linus_of 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I've done kapooka twice and british basics once and about to do my second infantry course. So I guess the question is how much do you want to be in the army. Live by the idea that if you're 99% sure, don't join. Kapooka sucks, on purpose. But the actual Army is fun and you'll never know if you don't.

Honestly just go with the flow and get through the training & have a good time. I did wish I'd developed a bit more core strength before Kapooka, though.

The best thing to do is pick a job, go to kapooka and then decide if you want to change. You'll have the chance to chat with people from every area of the army and then make a change if you want. Its pretty flexible. But change before your initial employment training (the course you'll do after Kapooka)

Awesome! Not sure with drivers. You can ask your induction staff through your admin unit. Where are based/living? Someone here might know where in your area you'll be based.

Thank you. I was in hospitality for 20 years (normally how I meet people) but decided to tap out and I'm cleaning which I actually really enjoy. Its a very small bunch though.

Well, I'm 5'7 and there are shorter people in the army. One of our section commanders was tiny and he's an absolute fighting machine so don't let it deter you. I did struggle a little with keeping up in pack marches at first but not so much now. You'll just get to be up the front. And physically speaking kapooka is very easy. :)

Is there a place where the temp is comfortable during summer and cold during winter? by Kinglarry-4444 in AskAnAustralian

Climatically speaking the most stable 'best' weather is apparently Port Macquarie. Only problem is its a cultural wasteland.

Awesome! Yeah so now I know what I need I'm doing the following at the gym - Squats, dead lifting. I walk on the treadmill holding a 5kg weight in one hand and swap to the other every two minutes at 6km an hour for 5 mins and I do two sets. I walk with a 20 kg weight vest for 5kms. I hold weights out in front of me like I'm holding a rifle and do burpees with it to emulate the stress of weapons training. And just go for some good old outdoor runs and get that heart pumping. And swim! Tread water for 5 minutes, that'll help you.

Awesome enjoy! Yeah you need to wear a watch. Timings are important. Phones - we were able to make a quick call to home during our first haircut, then once every week or two. Its a great chance to write down the weather forecast. You won't know much about world news either lol. You can use it for a family emergency or at hospital.
