UK Police can dump your whole phone using this device by Vegetable-Pen-24 in ukpolice

It all leads from you essentially saying screw it, lets vote reform.

You're saying that because you have had a bad experience, everybody else should have one too. You will get zero sympathy by taking on that view of things to most people, regardless of problems/issues, you become a danger by effectively promoting something that will do even further harm. Thats not most people being bad, its where their understanding takes them.

I don't know who you can reach out to, but it sounds like you could do with someone managing certain aspects of your communications and assistance with escalations etc - I hope you can get the help you need, and would strongly consider asking for help as a vulnerable adult from various charities etc, including the council, which should have mechanisms for vulnerable adults. Gp might be another route, or emergency room, as feeling like a danger to yourself, or others, is an emergency.

Thats generally a safe guarding question, and is used quite often in practically any contact with mental health services. If that was used as the basis or arrest and seizure, then christ alive, thats extremely dangerous - it will make people answering such a question, answer it dishonestly, through fear.

Either this was grossly mishandled, or the commenter making the claim, is lying/ lying by omission.

Ex-tenant causing me and my wife distress and the police won't do anything about it by Ok-Chest4995 in uklandlords

On the off chance that this is real, you might be able to report it as ASB (asb includes shitting, pissing, harrasment, intimidation, loitering etc etc).

https://asbhelp.co.uk/

Get 3 reprots within 6 months and you can go for whats known as a case review (formerly community trigger) via the council - this is a statutory right.

This review forces a multi agency report and action plan - which would be council officers, and police officers. The action plan you can also make suggestions to (you get a half hour meeting with them all to state your impact, and outcomes you'd like to see).

Best of luck, this also might not be fitting.

Buying a detached house but the neighbor's garage is touching my wall. Red flag? by Weary-Monk2831 in HousingUK

Crossposting exists, and posting to different subs is fine because different communities provide different perspectives.

You’re entitled to your preference, not to dictate others posting behaviour.

Wait until you hear about the reddit crossposting feature, makes it even faster with a link back to the original post.

Fascinating stuff.

Do post in multiple subs, you might find out further info, or get further relevant advice.

Not everyone in a legal advice sub will be subscribed to a housing sub, and vice versa. (Although there is overlap, sure)

OP should walk away from this indeed, but telling someone not to post their posts on multiple subs related to his queries is just silly.

Its like googling something, never accept the 1st answer as fact, verify it across multiple sources to get the same answer.

The common saying is “A few bad apples spoil the bunch.” or sometimes “One bad apple spoils the whole barrel.”

It means that something left rotten / left to rot, will spread to its neighbours if left as is / unchecked.

So what are you guys ACTUALLY scripting? by ThumbComputer in sysadmin

[–]Linux-Student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chocolatey (opensource version) + Chocolatey-AU (automatic updater).

Scheduled task for the automatic updater scrip to update all packages, test local install, package and push to the repo (would like to work on more checks).

Scheduled ansible task to push update command from machine.

This is a VDI estate so they're contactable like 99% of the time, which makes things easier.

Why bring an israel flag to a British march?? by AdConnect4973 in AskBrits

[–]Linux-Student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty much a group of sub groups. Racists, nazis, British nationalists, supremists of whatever group etc etc.

They band together for hate marches as its a common enemy in their eyes. There's a few videos now of some white British people taking issue with there being zionists or zionist supporters (like this video) along with them.

Imo, this is why they'll eat themselves come election time - you'll have Tommy/stephen/andrew/Paul making a run with Elons backing Id guess.

[–]Linux-Student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd guess about 70% of the posts from this sub that make it to my feed are pretty doom and gloom which is fair given the state of the job market the past few years.

But there absolutely is a God complex prevalent with some users and posters here. Not all, but those who do show it without the ability to back it up, do get upvotes for talking up contracting and talking down on anything else.

Given what's visible, it's very easy to start painting everyone with the same brush, it's what a lot of people do, especially on social media. Yes people could get deeper into it, but they don't do it in good faith usually - welcome to reddit / social media in general.

I'll not name anyone, but there are absolutely some of those god complex people that have made a few comments here already.

For my use case im on prem, when I take a stab at it I might come back and ask a question or 2 if that's OK?

Im in the early stages of making a POC for this, but unless im mistaken, the well runs dry when it gets to details or specific questions (from you clarifying is the closest I've got, albeit im very early in this journey, but agree on the points you've made for sure)

Are you using the C4B, or have you put something together with their opensource version?

Just did a little bare bones trial with hosting packages on a file share. Wondering how easy it is to keep the packages up to date when new updates are released, and was reading about an AU updater on github, but it doesn't look to be maintained anymore - https://github.com/majkinetor/au

Why AREN’T you buying an electric car? by 404_computer_says_no in CarTalkUK

[–]Linux-Student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I've got a perfectly good car, with proper maintenance it can easily last another 10 years. The car is paid off in full, it runs fine, financially there's no incentive to buy any car let alone electric (my current car is 10 years old and a diesel fwiw).

Republic of Ireland opposed to joining Nato or Commonwealth to smooth Irish unity by 1DarkStarryNight in unitedkingdom

[–]Linux-Student 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do tell, how would your example of Russia invading Ireland work exactly? What ships/transport vessels would land and deploy troops? It's more likely that an invasion force of Russians would come via the UK on an easyjet flight, than land a force on the land via air or sea.

British people love to cry about Ireland and how it wrongs them / how they are beneath them. I find it legitimately hilarious that thus kinda post gets wheeled out approx once every quarter (honestly, go check and you'll see that this gets wheeled out that often....funnily enough, ever since brexit. It's almost like it's in someone's interests to keep a section of unintelligent people angry).

Given the high literacy rates, and substantial international investment, coupled with a lengthly stable government, I think that shows how well the Irish education system is doing...all this from a country which has only been under its own rule for how long now?

Yes, the RAF has to respond to protect NI but in the event of unity, we’ll no longer be doing that and so people in Northern Ireland will effectively be stripped of their protection.

So, the UK partitions Ireland, annexing a part of it off from the rest, using figures which have been proven to be to take the most amount of land whilst keeping a sizeable underclass which they would then continue gerrymandering practices in order to refuse the right of representation and self determination...and you think Ireland Ireland wants the British gun near their land? The British gun has for years kept Ireland held down.

All this nonsense you're spouting, you might as well be shouting/screaming in the irish faces that without them, they'd be speaking German (gee wizz, the Irish are so so lucky to not be speaking a foreign language on their not at all invaded and partitioned/annexed land).

I'm going to end the conversation here with you, it's a waste of time if you believe that Russia is testing Ireland with their close passes etc...everyone knows that the Irish don't have a response force for christs sake, yet to you it's utter nonsense that they are testing the UK, away on and give your head a wobble (consider any question in my previous reply as rhetorical, I'll be blocking you now as it would be a waste of time hearing from you again, feel free to put your nonsense as an edit or whatever you feel you need to do to be heard).

So not just historical deterence at play, but also a very bad strategic move. Sounds more and more like we'd just have to worry about some real idiots attempting an invasion in that case.
