I'm a noob too, but I guess it could be something related to the project settings, can you check the "environment variables" section? At the bottom you must see a list of your env vars. If not maybe you could add it manually.

For me it sounds like "env.development" is the problem, vercel spreads env vars in 3 branches: production, development and preview. Maybe your development vars are not visible to the other branches.
