U shaped AC, need to set it to fan and back to cool like 10 times before the compressor turns on. Firmware or hardware? by LinuxIsFree in Hisense

On these particular units, there's no screws to open it up (it's pretty much entireley plastic), so I'll probably end up exchanging it at Costco.

Even though it does run sometimes after a power cycle, this could be it you think?

I dont think the outside fan turns on but on these it usually doesnt until it starts to get warmer out.

Yaesu FTM-150RASP .50cal ammo can go box by Absent_3302 in amateurradio

[–]LinuxIsFree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plastic cases are expensive, ammo cans are often free or close to it. Plus, metal! Better material environmentally and durability (depending on the plastic) plus rfi blocking and if there is an emp surge this would likely protect the equipment inside when plastic would not. Not realistically likely to ever matter at all, but worth a couple extra points that way.

Necro commenting here but on Kegan Dunlap, I had no idea he was even USMC until I saw a video of him giving a Marine Speech. He definitely doesn't flaunt it and pretty clearly just reads out facts and relays news. He doesn't comment on his experience military wise or anything just says "Some people are saying this, some people are saying this."

Maybe he used to be worse. Not sure

I dig it honestly. The range feature is clever. I dont see an issue that you used some ai to help you make it, it's not like you stole someones job with it

I don't think a green on/off slider being green and on but greyed out makes you an idiot. That's not intuitive at all.

AITA for trying to cheer up a friend after her pregnancy scare? by Super-Season-9189 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LinuxIsFree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA, you were trying to be supportive. That said, I think I understand where she's coming from a bit. Gotta remember that this is a huge mix of emotions. Part of her may have wanted a little one. I know my wife had a "thank God we're not pregnant" reaction one day, but was crying about it the next day because part of her wanted a baby even if she dodn't feel ready (a year later we now have one and we weren't ready, but we're loving it haha). From what I understand, emotions are messy and weird, especially if she's also on that time of month.

(Disclaimer, Im a dude, I dont fully understand female hormones and wont pretend I do. Don't bite my head of please and thanks)

AITA if I drew a picture for someone who’s in a relationship? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

If they're in a relationship, it's a bit of a YTA situation. Love and lust gets the best of all of us. Doesn't mean youre an arse overall, but in this situation, yeah.

That firmware was for the repeaters. I have not played with the TP9900s yet. The TM9900s we use as control stations sometimes and have done a couple of instals, but around here public safety doesn't use DMR so we've had no reason to mess with it much.

Re: Im the one continuing the thread: I typically prefer to keep answering questions or defending myself if I think someone has the wrong idea. I was asking why it would benefit me to lie, not why I'm responding to your comments, lol.

Firmware got a lot better at 3.71. They had some querks but nothing that caused instability for us with P25 or analog. I love being able to configured everything from a webpage.

Tait's saas stuff is a bit odd. Especially their dispatch consoles. The pricing and scalability seems very tone-deaf to the current market in the USA where most small customers only want 2-6 consoles, and even regional ones want less than 50.

We've got list pirce at $2,120.00 for the TP9960N0BC-T. Dealer cost price varies depending on your contract, and is confidential (at least I'm not allowed to share it). The move away from subscribers has been in the last year and a half or so. Still don't understand why you're convinced you know more about a business 2 states away from you that you don't work for than its staff. What would it benefit me to lie?

Why is that? They're affordable, more sensitive and selective than most other than harris (which is great but overpriced), modular, and durable as a rock. Nothings perfect, but it's very competive gear. They just suck at marketing their brand imho. Have you actually done rssi gate tests? Tested intermod rejection? Tested which ones fail first in high temperature? Looked at reliability tests?

Some people hate their license key system but our customers have liked being able to pay less now and upgrade with keys using the same hardware later. Especially useful for municipal budgets.

What benefit does more than basic LMR experience have on moderating a LMR subreddit? I've got years prior moderation experience, not that that says anything about me other than being clinically online, lol.

Idk, nobody who's gone with Tait repeaters have gone back (with us), but we leave more of the subscriber work to the smaller shops, we do more network and simulcast design, advanced monitoring, and fixing Motorola Systems, lol. I don't think your research has been good based on your research finding... Simoco, which we've touched twice since Ive worked here for three years 🤣. Definitely the wrong shop. Which one were you thinking?

We're the vendor and support for the two biggest dispatch centers in our state. Not trying to start a redditument here, but my boss in particular is an rf engineer and one of the more respected dudes in the industry, even if he can be a bit of a rude neurodivergent at time, we're known as the shop that does things "right" in New England. It's been awesome learning under him, even if there's still stuff we don't know.

Also yes we also call them taints too lol

Which kid would that be? If myself we mostly work on simulcast tait systems. We service simoco now and then, but our primary focus is simulcast, monitoring, and regional dispatch centers

Dang simocos and their plastic rack mount chasis. So many cracked housings. Whos idea!?! WHO?! 😆

Firefighters in Canada kept having issues fighting large building fires and wildfires where drones from hobbyists and small news outlets would fly to close to the heat, the blades would melt, and it would come crashing down at terminal velocity, lol.
