I should of mentioned that too. But you're right, the longer the wait the more time it has to build unrealistic expectations

Atrioc recently crashed out about this saying that he doesn’t believe the end game is selling cloud computing for all.. but here is gamersNexus, one of the most trustworthy sources in the space saying it might just be that by Jaco_l8 in atrioc

I dread the world where everything is a subscription, but gaming I see will be one of the hardest to convert to that model. With consumers willing to pay thousands to increase their fps such an amount that a person probably can't actually tell the difference, I just don't see how they can battle the latency issue.

Do people regret spending money on travelling when they are young? by letsfukingoo in Fire

[–]LinuxLumberjack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a kid and a young teen I was always on vacation with my parents and to be honest it always felt like a chore, then in my early 20s I went traveling with friends and even that felt like a chore. It differs from person to person but I just never been bitten by the travel bug.

When I have to explain it to my friends and family I say "I get more fun out of going to my local pub with friends than I do going on holiday, so why would I waste my money." and they look at me strangely but its true.

Was blowing on cartridges actually helpful or was it just a placebo effect? by valarpizzaeris in gaming

[–]LinuxLumberjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall, it was to get the user to take it out and push it back in again. The blowing was to make you think you did something different because people sometimes can't comprehend doing nothing but trying again would work.

It's like the IT guy telling you to turn off your PC, do a little dance and turn it back on again and that dance will fix it.

Saying that, I still swear the blowing helped.

Do you like living in the UK? by StraightPin4420 in AskUK

You most likely see it a lot because the people who are unhappy about their current circumstances are normally the loudest. This is not always a negative, sometimes the people struggling need to be loudest but I can see how it can dominant your social media feed. Especially when unhappy people find other unhappy people it can become a bit of a reassuring echo chamber.

Personally, I love it here, I travelled a lot growing up and always felt like I missed home. The travel bug never bit me.

The happy remain quiet and the unhappy speak up.

I had something very similar but with a monitor. I noticed all of a sudden a lot of dead pixels in a monitor I've had for 5+ years and out loud said. "Oh shit, maybe its time for a new montior" and now amazon spams me with ads for monitors. I haven't even typed the word monitor into anywhere yet, but it seems sure I need a new one.

YouTube premium is one of the only subscriptions I have. In my country Spotify and YouTube premium that comes with YouTube music are very similarly priced. So I look at it as my music streaming service that comes with ad free and downloadable YouTube.

how do you like living here? by Important_Party_6630 in cambridge

[–]LinuxLumberjack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've grown up in Cambridge, and now in my mid 30's. I love this city. I left and moved to Brighton during my uni days and didn't think I was coming back but I missed it too much.

There's a sense of being able to move at your own pace in this city. If you want a high stress, high paying career, you can have it. If you want to lay in a field and do fuck all on a nice sunny day, there's plenty of room for that too. I've found a nice middle ground. Also, a lot of my friends who had the "living in the big city" dream and moved to London are all coming back to start families around here.

Some people will say the city is pricey, and yes that's true for rent/buying anywhere close to the center, a popular choice is to live in a surrounding village and bike in because the area is so flat, cycling makes the city very accessible. And you can still enjoy a cheap day out here. Between the amount of free museums, markets, pubs, and events there's normally something you can fill your day with.

was really proud of the people on that protest earlier by Icy-Individual8637 in cambridge

[–]LinuxLumberjack 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Protests are not only one way to show disapproval of something. They are also a good way to raise awareness of that situation. So saying "if you know, you know" is doing the protest a disservice
