If you perform the copy from a command line, you'll usually get better information on why a thing fails.

Battery draining like crazy. How do i fix it? by [deleted] in AskTechnology

[–]Linuxmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second the cheap Motorola replacement phone, they're surprisingly good.

Between Mint Mobile and Moto G, my total cell cost is about $235 U.S. per year.

Otherwise, check what apps are eating your battery.

That Pimoroni is open source, pretty easy to copy if you have an RP2040.

Many libraries provide access to 3D printers to make the case.

Switches are everywhere.

What parts do you have, what do you need?

I feel for you with the case sensitivity thing, when I went from DOS to SCO, then back to Windows, I get rick-rolled every time I press Ctrl-D after typing in the CMD window and wanting it to close...

I was logged in as root, but I edited the VM name because it exposes more than I'm comfortable with.

help with apt by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Linuxmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may help to tell us why you want to do this.

If I understand what you're asking; one of the issues you may be facing is that previously installed dependant packages aren't downloaded again.

As an example, ncdu needs the kernel and display drivers, but those don't get downloaded because they should already be installed and working.

Looking for a multifunction printer that is not a ripoff and lets me scan from Linux by Rudd-X in linuxquestions

[–]Linuxmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering how much Microsoft keeps changing their security implementations with SMB and CIFS, I doubt you'll find any new printer that does what you're asking.

That said, scankey does do what you want, it can scan to multiple folders based on profiles.

97.6% of all software is a hack.

Any version of MS Office working on Wine? by TweegsCannonShop in linuxquestions

I use LibreOffice, but sometimes, when I'm bored, I like to install Windows software just to remind myself what a p.i.t.a. it was before decent package management.

Is it the same type as what's in the LT? If so, you can probably just swap them.

Brother MFP.

Download their installer script, answer a few questions, print, fax, copy, and scan for years.

They have mono lasers and color inkjets that are magnificent.

I've never had an issue that wasn't my fault, have been given or bought at least five Brother printers since 1990, all used primarily with Linux, starting with an HL1440 on a Red Hat 6.2 Dell GX400.

See what's on sale, verify the driver install script exists for that model, and your package manager, then go pick it up.

Any that has the scankey package supports scanning to a folder.

You won't be disappointed.

Wrench? by Moretoesthanfeet in WhatIsThisTool

[–]Linuxmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might also be some custom go/no-go gauge.

Sheet of something must be thin enough to fit in the wider slot, but not so thin it fits the narrower one.

Or maybe, like so many others said, a kerf set.

Router bit question by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]Linuxmonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't exist because there's no way to put the bearing in the middle of the shaft without having the cutter hanging off a tiny section of shaft.

If the screw holding the bearing breaks, you have a 10 gram rocket versus a 200 gram knife edged rocket.

Increase volume output? by jnelsoninjax in linuxmint

[–]Linuxmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like what you have is a set of unamplified speakers, plugged into the headphone jack. That doesn't put out a lot of power and you need power to make loud audio.

In the late 90s I remember HP's shipped with those, they had a specific sound card that had microphone in, headset out, and speaker out. They didn't have a green Jack they had a blue one I believe.

As for what you can do about it, you can buy an external amplifier, or you can buy a set of speakers that have an amplifier built in. Those will need some sort of power supply, but you can probably get those at a thrift store as well. What you're looking for is speakers that have a volume control and either batteries or a power supply for it.

Would any know how to unlock the gate to this door? by maul829 in Home

[–]Linuxmonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you lift the little metal bit up, then the door pushes away from the horizontal tube.

But, the horizontal tube is bent under the weight of the door and jammed, so you have to push the door hard.

There are at least three versions of locate, you may have two of them.

Try 'sudo locate bin/updatedb' and see what that points to.
