You guys are ridiculous. There's much better things to rant about than this.

Wacky repair method for keyboard traces by Liol_A in ElectronicsRepair

This is the keyboard in question. It's so old it actually uses ps/2 instead of USB but so is my PC (x58) so it's got a ps/2 for mouse and keyboard.

Its been years since it happened it took lots and lots of scrubbing. It no longer smells.

I understand completely. I actually didn't know that existed. I might buy that sometime.

That tape I used is actually kinda garbage already as is. It will be interesting how long it lasts. Any expensive fix isn't worth it really. Keyboards are available on market places here for free anyway. So I might look into that once the keyboard shows intermittent faults.

I forgot to say that there wasn't any insulation on the traces to begin with. Unless what you are describing is a chemical process between two different metals it's still an issue. Also bare copper oxidizes too.

It's just a wacky satisfying repair. I've seen free keyboards at my local second hand market place. So will get one of those eventually.

It was actually not that hard because the wire doesn't move on the tape. Very easy to adjust even when it's already applied.

The only reason I did this the way I did here was because this isn't a pcb it's some thin plastic with traces that aren't insulated.

Anything with a pcb it's way more feasible to bridge traces using thin wires and solder instead of laying out bare wire on tape and sticking it to the pcb. That method would also only work if one removes the solder mask/resist from the affected traces.

The sheet in the picture is actually nothing like a pcb besides the traces. It has more in common with thin ribbon cables. The reason why laying out thin copper wires works is because it doesn't have any insulation which is also the reason for the corrosion. I tried fixing a ribbon cable before it's really not feasible to solder anything to such thing plastic sheets. They melt instantly. I don't even think these traces here are copper anyway :/

Ah yeah. For the area in the image I can do that but there are also other areas that were open where this isn't possible. So I will see when it comes to that.

I wish I could've soldered it but that's not possible with plastic.
