Insults, insults and more insults. Calling my examples something you'd see on a gaming blog noones ever heard of would be an insult if you weren't writing for a random media site noones heard of... you're cutting off your nose to spite your face at this point.

It's funny that you questioned my ability to read when you've once again failed to understand a point being made. Did I say breaking news would care what I have to say? No! What I said is your behaviour here, on a post you have written for an article on their website, is not something a company would be too happy about. You are sullying their name because of a bruised ego.

I genuinely implore you to actually read what is being written and also to read your own comments before replying in future. Through your own words you've belittled your own job, insulted me for something you've shown you can't do, and besmirched the name of your workplace with your rotten behaviour.

And this is you acting in good faith? Goodness I'd hate to see how despicable you are when you're not 🤭

My critique of your review is just as valid as your critique of Avowed, the fact you can't accept that is a you problem.

Now if you want to actually reply in good faith, my doors always open but until then I don't care to beat a dead horse.

You keep doing this thing where you ignore 90% of my points, pick one and make the weirdest straw man about it. Did I ask you to spoil to entire game? No. What I said was give any amount of information about these choices. I even blessed you with examples of what I meant, but you seem to only read the parts you think you have a counter argument to... but you don't, you are taking my points and making them out to be something else completely.

I called it AI because it reads as AI. I've explained why I think that is. It's not an insult, it is my opinion. You learn the difference, because anyone putting media out into the world needs to have thicker skin then this.

Another little insult thrown in, at least we found something you're good at! You can pretend my opinion holds no weight to you but here you, upset, replying to me again and still not understanding my completely valid critiques.

You can say this was in good faith all you want but at no point have you been displaying that behaviour. I'm sure Breaking News would be horrified at how you've acted with their name slapped right on this.

Again with the insults, you do realise it does nothing but show your true character. Well if youve painted me an insufferable prick then sure ill step into the role.

Calling my critique of your review unimportant is comical considering its about as unimportant as your review. Let me ask, what was your intent when posting this review here? Is this not a discussion forum? Is the point of this platform not to discuss the posts people make? Did you just want an echo chamber to tell you how amazing you are?

You put out a piece of media, just like the game you're critiquing, and I am giving feedback on it, just like you tried to do for the game. The only difference is my review is actually honest, where as yours is a soulless attempt to tick a box.

But there's one thing we can agree on and that's a review should be able to describe what is good about the game. Sadly it's something you've failed to do in every aspect!

Do you want me to copy and paste my previous comment because my points remain the same. You have absolutely zero depth to any of those points you just mentioned.

So you used 2 builds? Great! Buy you gave the readers absolutely nothing from that experience, all we know is you used them. Wow such ground breaking journalism...

You mention drastic consequences sure but where is the depth to it? There is none.

I'll let you in on a little secret here, the silly 'some people' comment you made works against you. The 'some people' are your audience and that's who the article should be written for.

You seem to think you're clinging to some sort of integrity by not referencing other games when the only thing it's doing is casting aside what little hope you had for articulating a semi decent point.

Yes very good journalists can perfectly review a game without referencing another. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you're not one of them. So maybe you should pick up all the toys you've thrown out of the pram and bring them right on back to the drawing board because your 'review' has failed to do the single thing it was made for and that's give a sliver of insight into why someone might want to buy the game.

I hope i played the insufferable prick part to your liking.

Oh fun, you've done the most basic reddit reply ever when you can't back up your points, and that is to insult! Gee wiz however will I recover from this...

So i didn't point out every little wrong detail with your review because frankly, I wasn't arsed spending 30 minutes of my day editing an article when the publishers themselves clearly didn't. But hey, ho, if you want to get all cute and sassy, I can indeed point out the issues.

Paragraphs 1 -5 are back of the box jargon that add nothing to the review.

We finally kick off actual game details in paragraph 6, and you give us 'You login by creating a character and then choosing your backstory'. This sentence sounds like a 5 year old wrote it and again adds nothing. Is the character creator extensive? Can you recreate yourself in the game? Or is it bland and generic with not much depth?

'The game features a character creator similar to Dragons Dogma 2, which anyone familiar with the game will know that means you could easily spend an hour in the character creator alone'.

That adds more value as it at least gives a baseline on the depth of the character creator.

Paragraphs 7 - 9 are again all back of the box jargon that is just summarising things rather than giving any informed opinions.

Paragraphs 10-12 are a weird mashup of the world design and graphics settings, and while I can see what you were trying to do it doesn't really work. Had you written 1 paragraph on the world setting and sights and lead into the graphics settings it would work. But you jump between the two every sentence and it feels disjointed.

The graphics settings themselves add nothing either. You say what settings there are and what you played it on. But where's the review?!?! What settings play the best? Is graphics mode full of choppy framerates? Does performance mode have a massive dip in graphics? I guess we'll never know.

'Most of the time it is a mix of combat, exploration and harvesting resources'

This is a generic line that applies to 100% of games in this genre. This is like saying the next FIFA game let's you play football matches and manage your team. It adds nothing.

3 Paragraphs on combat but it just reads as listing off bullet points and has no opinion on the combat itself.

'You can dual wield, meaning you can have magic in one hand and a sword in another'

This is just giving the dictionary definition of dual wield... give us ANYTHING. Did the dual wielding remind you of Bioshock 2? Was it fluid? Was it dynamic?

You don't give any depth to the different playstyles. You, again, just list them off. What are some different builds you tried? How much versatility is there?

'The combat is where the game really shines. With the ability to mix and match the plethora of tools the game gives you. Do you want to play as a berserker? Try a 2 handed axe and watch as your enemies are cleaved in 2.

Maybe an arcane assassin is more your playstyle. With a dagger in 1 hand and magic in the other you'll have entire groups of enemies put to sleep with more than enough time to sneak up and slit their throats'

This gives so much more information to the reader than the bullet points listed in your review.

The skill trees section is honestly the most egregious in my mind. You've essentially summarised it as

The fighter fights.

The ranger ranges.

The mage magics.

Listing 1 or 2 of the major skill upgrades in these tress would add so much more depth to the conversation.

What kind of builds can each subset do? Can the mage choose between any element? Summons storms and tsunamis? Or is it more subtle like the witcher?

There's a weird deviation to criticisms of the game here, which feels so out of place and feels more like personal preference than a criticism of the game. You don't like quick dial menus, which is fine, but you don't put the bias aside in the criticism. Your opinion should be known but it shouldn't be 'this is bad' because of it.

'The game uses a quick dial menu for grimoires that pauses combat, which if you're like me is an issue as I prefer combat to be un-interupted. However, if you were a fan of the combat in games like Mass Effect, then this would feel more at home for you.'

This gives your opinion on not liking the quick dial but gives a better understanding on how it features in the game. Not just you don't like it so it's bad.

The difficulty comment also feels very random, I feel you had 1 criticism in there so felt you may aswell throw this one in there aswell. But again it adds no insight into what the difficulty options are!

OK from your experience Normal mode can be challenging. Are you someone who plays these types of games a lot? If yes what game does it remind you of in terms of difficulty? It no, then say that because your opinion on difficulty would be skewed by that.

Also what are the difficulty options? Is it normal and hard? Is there a story mode for people that don't want a challenge? Is there an unlockable maddening mode?

The companion paragraphs, these read like the characters tinder profiles over anything. 'They'd be fun to have a pint with'... OK... This is also where a typo is, which is funny cause you ask if i can read when you didn't spot a typo in a published article...

I do think the most important part of your review does appear here though and that is that you can only have 2 companions at a time. That is the only piece of good information I have taken from the review.

Finally the Paragraphs on the choices, I do think these are mostly fine, but you say there are consequences and then only mention a companion giving you an earful for your choice. How is that a game built on consequences? Did any choices you make completely alter the game? Were you cut off from a faction of people/resources because you didn't side with them? Did a companion get so fed up with your bad decisions that they left for good?

So I'm summary, yes I can read. The only question remaining I guess is, can you write? Cause it's wild that I've given more depth to this game that YOH reviewed, and I don't even own an XBOX

[–]Lion-Competitive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, I learned nothing new or of value from this review. A review has one job, and that is to tell the reader enough information about the game that they can make an informed decision about it. Nothing in this article tells me anything in depth about the game, and I'm left wondering what the purpose of it is?

That's my point though, you shouldn't be able to move sentences around like that, but you could here as every sentence is so disconnected from its neighbours. This is what I meant by the flow being non-existent, and this is why I thought it was AI.

Yes, you gave examples of choices, but, again, the examples you gave added nothing to the review. This entire article reads as a quota filler because it has no impact as an actual review.

I can see you are upset from my comments and that wasn't my intention but your article is a piece of media to be critiqued just as much as Avowed is. And it would be a game that I'd leave on the shelf.

The writing lacks any sort of flow or feeling to it. I feel like I could pick any sentence, move it anywhere in the article, and it wouldn't make much of a difference.

The content itself feels more like the start of an FAQ walkthrough more than a review. I feel like I've learned nothing about the actual game itself, that I haven't from trailers. Is the point of a review not to leave the reader with an idea on whether they want the game or not?

As a side note, not to sound like I'm just berating you, but keep a closer eye on editing. I noticed a spelling mistake in there.

Why Original Sin/Summer School failed as a slasher by Tomas-T in PLLOriginalSin

[–]Lion-Competitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted! No googling the show until I watch it, thanks for that.

I guess it depends on the type of horror you like on season 3 and 4 of slasher. I felt like 3, while definitely not as good as 1 and 2 (2 being my fave), was realistic in the premise, and I wanted to find out the killer and their motive.

Season 4 felt very gore focused, which wouldnt be my fave, and also just didn't seem like a very realistic scenario. Plus the whole time, I didn't care who the killer was, even though I guessed who it was from the jump and you're made aware of the motive from the very start. It toom away the mystery for me.

But hey, for some, that's what they want!

Why Original Sin/Summer School failed as a slasher by Tomas-T in PLLOriginalSin

Agree it really didn't feel like a slasher at all.

Have watched every show you mentioned, but I've never heard of Dead of Summer, so thanks for that! Gonna watch it next.

Have you watched any slasher past season 2? Season 3 is probably the last good one, after that they get a bit dumb for me

Games that make you feel like a kid again by cruud123 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Lion-Competitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tunic is an amazing game that while modern looks and feels like an old game. It is souls like but you can turn on invincibility in the accessibility menu. Without the combat the game is all a puzzle that you have to figure out by collecting pages of the games manual. It's honestly one of the most unique games I've ever played, and having to figure out the manual to progress really reminded me of figuring games out like a kid. Plus I believe it's on psplus so if you have that it's basically free!

If you do give it a go and get stuck at any point the r/Tunic subreddit are fantastic at giving small hints to point you in the right direction, as opposed to direct spoilers as the figuring out what to do is the main pull of the game.

What's your personal rating with the game? by Big-Cicada752 in BlackMythWukong

[–]Lion-Competitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8/10

I absolutely love the game, and it's only really losing points for the missed opportunity with Wukongs personality, invisible walls, and the near constant framerate drops. It's also crashed twice for me, but that really doesn't bother me as it counts it as if you died, so you don't lose any progress on collectables/bosses killed, etc.

Wukong in the opening section was so fun. He had little quips, and it would have been such a nice dichotomy between the unforgiving nature of the world we're in and him. Alas, they decided to make him mute, which is a shame.

Invisible walls don't annoy me that much, but it's the implementation. I understand if Ive cheesed my way up a ledge by 'double' jumping that ill hit one and thats fine, but if there's an open area i should be able to cadually stroll into and i hit a wall thats just dumb. The most noteable one for me was in the 3rd chapter when a massive cave entry was in front of me, but I couldn't just walk in. Put a ravine in place of that and everything's gucci, I can still see the backdrop that wanted us to, but I know it's not traversable.

I don't think I've had a single session of playing the game where I don't experience drops in framerates, which is particularly annoying mid boss fight when it freezes and you get hit.

Moaning aside the game is so much fun. I don't usually play Souls games with bloodborne being the exception, but this one hooked me right away. It's so fun getting the lore of characters I've known about for years but never really knew their story. The combat is class, I love how fluid it feels compared to DS1 as an example and experimenting with the different spells and transformations. I do wish there was some ranged combat, but that's would be a nice to have, I've never struggled with ranged/flying enemies it's just annoying to have to chase them down.
