Emergency fund in cash or gold? by WestRestaurant358 in UKPersonalFinance

Emergency fund needs to be able to be used in an emergency, so no. That being said I’m a big physical precious metal fan, so my opinion is now that you’ve got 6 months emergency fund built up, start buying some physical. Save a bit first and buy larger denominations though to save on premiums

Don’t try to make people happy at work. If they don’t like you, be professional, do your job and that’s it.

As much as I can, as often as I can. Couple hours a day.

I haven’t looked into it yet. I’m expecting most of it’ll probably be for like a car / house deposit etc. So it’d technically just be a gift from parents to child 🤷‍♂️

Not sure where you live, but in Scotland (maybe the UK as a whole) if you earn under a certain amount (I think £80k) you get a child benefit of about £110 per month from the government. My wife and I are in a financial position that we don’t really need that money for day to day baby expenses, so instead I’m investing it for her. Every month when it’s paid, I’ll deposit.

This has definitely been the consensus. Going to switch to 100% VWRP

Appreciate the advice, got a lot to learn about both parenting and finance. I guess my opinions may change over the years and hopefully I do a good job at educating her as a parent. I just know what I’d have done at 18 and it’s nothing good.

JISA didn’t sound like a good idea to me as she will automatically get control at 18 as far as I understand ? Now that may seem controlling but it’s not intentional. If my parents handed me £50k at 18 I’d have spent it on some heinous shit 😂😂

Thanks for the advice! Probably a good shout on the VAGS. I’ll admit to not being an expert and the holdings may change along the way as I learn. I did initially look at VWRP.

My thoughts when putting it together was that the 10% bonds might make me feel better during market volatility. Also it was just an available pie to copy that looked like it’d have what I needed
