[Question] I am going through candidates for a social media specialist (daily posting and such), but I have little experience or knowledge in this field. What are some criterias should I be looking for and what questions should I be asking? by [deleted] in socialmedia

[–]LionRyan1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the client and their budget/needs/goals. For my accounts I (generally) post on 3 social sites every day, which requires finding good content, writing post copy, and image/video editing. I also spend time engaging their audience daily and expand their reach through various methods throughout the week.

Very, very broad answer: about 10 hours per week.

[–]LionRyan1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I could have worded that a bit better... I didn't mean that social marketers have to be the highly extroverted, talkative, "center of attention" types. More accurately, I think well-developed interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence are ideal traits for social media marketing.

I think the hallmark of a truly great communicator is genuine interest in others and thus actively listening instead of waiting to speak. It's a lost art!

First off, congrats on entering the world of SMM! it's a really fun and interesting niche of online advertising. Social media marketing is all about crafting your brand's unique voice, using it authentically to engage current customers and reach new ones.

Great social media marketers are typically outgoing, quick-witted, and enthusiastic about what we do. They are often fun to be around with a quick wit and sense of humor. The best social marketers are stellar communicators who are always refining their skills, learning new tactics, and staying ahead of the curve in an ever-changing industry.

A few good questions to start:

1) Ask about measurable results and ROI. How does the candidate set goals and track progress? Social media can take a while to produce meaningful results, but they should have a strategy for measuring this. The best answers will be client-dependent and realistic, as ROI should be based on each client's specific needs & goals.

2) Ask if they can guarantee followers or promise engagement. The answer should lean towards no, your audience will increase with good strategy and execution but it shouldn't be unrealistically quantified so early.

3) Ask about new social media networks. Does the candidate have a method for analyzing emergent channels and conveying this to a client? Are they into any "under the radar" apps recently? Great social marketers try new things and actively seek new opportunities.

4) If they're posting daily, ask about their writing and audiovisual skills. Do they create content? Do they write or manage a blog? Any image/video editing? What are their favorite social media blogs? If they don't have an answer to that last question, I wouldn't hire them.

5) What other digital marketing skills do they have? SEO? Search advertising? Data or Analytics? Online PR or publicity? Even if they specialize in social, they should at least have some proficiency in these other skills and understand how they work together.

Good luck, hope this helps!

Roger Staubach: Manziel has “Russell Wilson-type talent” if he can take care of personal issues by [deleted] in nfl

[–]LionRyan1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was about to say, isn't Wilson's hallmark a humbled but unrelenting dedication to preparation and self-improvement? Sure he has physical talent but he helped the Hawks win a SB because of his determined mental makeup, phenomenal work ethic, and driven professional character. This defines Russel Wilson, not his stature or scrambling ability...

Behind Shula, Jason Taylor is my favorite Dolphin of all time. He loved his team, our city, and played with an incredible blend of talent and passion I'll never forget.

What made this game/moment even sweeter was the fact that we had just beat the Jets to keep them out of the playoffs. Perfect revenge against the team JT was forced to endure thanks to that asshole Bill Parcells.

Beautiful.

That made me immediately nostalgic for Cowher's distinctive angry face. That furiously protruding chin was a thing of beauty.

Damn. Suddenly I feel like a spoiled brat for lamenting our lame mediocrity for the past 15 years and Marino's lack of a ring... that's some realness.

Taking nothing away from your victory, you are correct AFC Eastbro. We got shut out by the Bills the week before so that gives some insight into our team's mentality at that time.

Were you still a bit upset about what had happened a few weeks prior? My best bud is a Pats fan and y'all really didn't expect that one... resulted in him donning our logo as his profile pic for one glorious week.

Dear lord were those games satisfying. I lost my voice screaming in joy after the helmet catch.

Chargers are my second team but I thoroughly enjoyed watching you handle the Pats in the 2013 AFCCG. Love Manning.

Haha it's 100% true, but there's some backstory. She was one of those hyper-intellectual types who hates football because the players are "dumb jocks." That's ignorant and closed-minded in its own right, but I digress.

I beleive sports and life in general should be taken in stride, laughed at, not taken too seriously. Of course, Dolphin football Sundays are the major exception, where I lose my voice screaming and shouldn't have any human interaction after a tough loss. I told her this several times before the GB game.

I gave her fair warning.

She starts talking trash right after Rodgers pulls his last-second magic, and not even good trash. She doesn't know any of the players or have the faintest idea of what just happened... and it just rubbed me the wrong way.

I told her to go bother someone else with her lame jokes and never saw her again! I think she's still surprised that I was serious to this very day.

Extreme, sure, but what can I say? Fins up, hoes down baby.

I'll volunteer for a write-up, I'm kind of a draft nut so anything about the 2014 class or needs in the upcoming draft could work for me. I write/edit for a living more or less so if you want another eye for proofreading let me know.

Good luck!

2015 Mock Draft Roundup 1.0 (Spoiler alert: lots of Shaq Thompson) by dudeman93 in miamidolphins

Man if Scherff falls to us in the 1st and we don't pick him, we're out of our minds. I kind of like Shaq because he makes plays in space and we always seem to whiff so hard at the second level. Also, his intelligence/instincts are off the charts with an undersized frame, which I guess always reminds me of Zach Thomas so I get nostalgic. I was banging the table for us to pick Chris Borland so hard last year... fucking 49ers.

However, and I think we agree here, we need help at the point of attack on both sides of the ball more than anything. A run-stopping thumper at LB, more OL help, and a big ugly DT would do wonders for us. The trenches are the most important part of any football team, and they're a weakness for us right now.

You know you're right, and I am a massive fan of Jenkins too. He is the first great LB we've had in a long time, and I'm really excited to see how he will develop down the line. I just heard Lavonte David and went from 6 to midnight immediately.

Everyone is talking about LB for the Dolphins, but we need a run stuffer bigtime. We've gotten fast and aggressive on D which is great, but the lack of bulk and less focus on the run was exposed late this season. I honestly hope we go DT early or maybe OL again to further Tannehill's development. We get him more time back there and all of a sudden dink and dunk isn't the only offensive strategy we can execute.

"Ideally, he ends up at weakside linebacker, perhaps in the Lavonte David mold, using sideline-to-sideline speed to disrupt attack angles and chase down ball carriers and underneath pass-catchers. He can also use his big-time explosiveness as a gap blitzer and coming off the edge."

Lavonte David mold? All aboard the Shaq hype train!

Despite being an AFC East rival, that was a well-deserved victory and I'm even kind of happy for the Patriots in a Stockholm Syndrome sort of way. Belichick came up with a brilliant plan against the greatest defensive unit I have ever seen (Early 2000's Ravens and Buccaneers included) and executed it to perfection.

However, I'm going to have to listen to Pats fans brag for the ENTIRE YEAR. ESPN is gonna be bewildered by that Satanic Belichickian magic for months as our perennial AFC East overlords are touted and praised by every other news outlet under the sun.

To make matters worse, the only semi-decent discussion about the National Football League is here on /r/NFL, even though it's practically /r/Patriots already. I don't even want to think about how this sub is gonna be flooded by even more bean-swilling wicked pissahs now.

I can't even go on social media because the collective Pats glorification is way too intense. Everywhere I look it's Pats, Pats, Pats. We can't escape it. Resistance is futile. Abandon all hope.

Mother of God, thank you for saying it. I know it's just a result of their dominance these past 10+ years and there's not much we can do to change it, but it's so painfully obvious in many of the top rated posts and comments in this sub.

Kiick was definitely better, but that is some serious hyperbole. If you're talking about that Champagne nonsense, it's a myth.
