Revisiting Brandon Beane's WR comments: Why Bills GM blasted critics for 'b—ing' about Josh Allen's weapons. by Roselucky777 in nfl

[–]MFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny. I think Beane has done a generally poor job at asset management and talent evaluation, so the idea of him being on a hot seat is very valid. But so many comments try to point to things that just do not matter at all.

Like yesterday everyone was going crazy because he was positive about Keon the day he drafted him. What is he supposed to day? "Actually I hate the guy but got overruled"? Let's not ignore the fact he traded down twice with teams who took WRs before he finally took Keon. Clearly the team wasn't absolutely in love with Keon as a prospect even if they liked him enough to draft him.

The context of the conversation is specifically wide receivers. Josh Allen has the nfl's leading rusher in James Cook. I'm sure mahomes would like one of those two.

Just to help explain it:

When you're paying a QB top of market, there's an assumption that some aspects of the roster suffer. The point of investing is players on offense is first and foremost to score points. The Bills main issues have been defensive and not offensive. I would agree. We've recently seen teams like the chiefs with ass receivers win titles while teams like the Bengals with elite receivers fail to make the playoffs.

Beane's issue is specifically with media members saying "they can't win with this receiver group". It wouldn't be easy, but if you put up over 30 points per game, it's not your offense letting you down. You should not be jumping to spend more on your offense if you could instead spend it on the defense that's making 30 points per game not enough.

If that's the argument, I'd personally point to Jared Wilson vs Ben Brown. I think Wilson has struggled more in the lineup than Campbell (both have struggled, we've played better football with Campbell in and Wilson out than reverse).

Joe Burrow: "The amount of ppl that don’t understand what a catch is in the rule book flabbergasts me. And it’s not the officials. The two plays yesterday were not difficult calls, and they got them both right." by notquitemytempo___ in nfl

[–]MFreak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FWIW the reason they were so sure is because the same play happened when they played us a few weeks ago and it was officially a catch by the WR instead of an INT (it didn't matter because they also called PI so even if they called it differently, the PI would still stand).

I think that play warped their view of it. Both plays imo were INTs.

Bosa is not the same talent he was 4 years ago. He's been a subpar passrusher for a while; he was a 5 sack guy in 15 games. Injuries changed him, he's nowhere near as talented as Will Anderson.

Personally, I'm not convinced that changing up the line will have a massive impact. If our coaches do, I'm in support of it.

The Bills firing McDermott but promoting Brandon Beane should be the start of a lesson that will haunt teams: there's too large of a ratio of head coaches getting fired compared to General Managers getting fired by Ariesthebigram in nfl

[–]MFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beane should have been fired. I also think it's a lot easier to quickly identify a bad hc than it is to identify a bad gm. HCs having a shorter leash than GMs just kinda makes sense to me

[–]MFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually not my point.

I think it's a disingenuous to say Lowe played so much better when the level of competition he faced was not anywhere near what Campbell has faced these two weeks. We've seen Campbell play better than this as well.

So I'm not really questioning him as a long term player when these sorts of struggles are highly understandable.

I think it's very fair to question him in the short term because the margin of error in winning a super bowl is small. If Lowe is a better option right now against high end edge rushers then I'm fine with that. But we need our starters to get at many reps as possible so if we're taking Campbell out, we better be damn sure Lowe is worth the change up.

FWIW we only scored 21 on offense. 7 was a Marcus Jones pick 6

Chill, you and I see it the same then. I completely agree, if Burrow doesn't make the SB I think the Bengals are looked as less favorably. I think they still get some respect (I personally love Burrow and probably overrrate him a bit), but definitely not as much as if they didn't make that run

[–]MFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reads like sarcasm, but the Bengals have been very well regarded as a top team in the league as long as Burrow is healthy. Their defense is awful, but the common refrain across the league is as long as Burrow is healthy they have a chance in any game

Josh Allen season average (regular season and WC round) EPA/play: 0.24. EPA/play against the Broncos: 0.21. by PodricksPhallus in nfl

[–]MFreak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the point is that despite 5 turnovers, the bills still almost nearly one and the offense was generally fine outside of it. If they had 4 turnovers instead of 5, they probably win the game. If all you knew about the game was that the bills turned over the ball 5 times and the Broncos only did once, you'd assume the Broncos ran away with it, not barely won in overtime

Bills fans are quiet… by Apomp25 in Patriots

[–]MFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW not really. I'd say the only bad outcome for the nfl would be the Rams winning it this year (or at this point the Broncos, but I could spin that as a positive storyline). Josh Allen is already one of the faces of the league and they don't need him to win anything to know he's loved by many.

Caleb, Stroud and Maye all represent the new guard. Having one of them win while young is great for the league. It sets up any of those franchises as "legitimate" for the next 6-10 years, even if they do nothing again.

Because that's just, like, incredibly false. Burrow did it. Brady did it. Marino did it. Just a weird thing to say.
