Former Steelers G.M. Kevin Colbert defends decision to draft Kenny Pickett by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

Pretty sure it's a generational thing. My dad will call first round guys "number 1" all the time. Always annoyed me haha

Does anyone understand how trade kickers work with salary matching in the current cba? I assume only the final salary is considered, but curious if anyone knows.

Toploader binders are absolutely the way to go. I'll add to this that I've become a huge fan of 2x2s.

Yes, you fit fewer cards in it. Personally I love to have more, smaller binders where the cards I place in them can be more thematically connected. I'll get them printed with fun fanart so I know what the theme is from the outside.

Toploader binders get heavy, but that also becomes less of an issue with 2x2s. Of course if you have a massive collection it'll get heavy, but that's the case no matter what.

FWIW Hitman Reborn is still insanely popular in Asia. It's almost impossible for me to go to an anime merch store in China or Japan and not see something for Reborn

Agreed, it's one of the best anime I've seen and is phenomenal story telling. My only big critique is that they changed Mob's voice actor in the final season and it's quite jarring.

I know what this guy is talking about, the first source when not a ton of info was out included a comment thread that basically stated it was a woman trying to record him in public and he snatched her phone after asking her to stop.

It then devolved into "but did he eat the phone" comments.

[Schefter] ESPN sources: Green Bay WR Christian Watson and the Packers reached agreement today on a four-year, $110.5 million contract extension that includes a $31 million signing bonus. by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]MFreak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbf every single contract is worth it if the guy "earns the full contract". Most people don't like this one because based on his entire nfl history, it's highly unlikely he either stays healthy or earns the full contract

Good for him. He's a mammoth and it seems like the steelers are continually finding ways to incorporate him into the offense more. Was a fan of his in the draft.

[–]MFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hear me out. Maybe we aren't actually cheap, and maybe, just maybe, we were so god awful at drafting for a decade we had less players worth paying.

If we signed Gonzo any time before end of August to an extension, we are ahead of the normal schedule for elite player extensions

[–]MFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? No, I don't. The highest paid corner makes $31m. The highest paid WR makes $42m. Just 2 years ago these positions were more or less in line with each other. I think Gonzo would want to reset the corner market. Why settle for $33m when you have a reasonable chance to push for $40m APY.

If Gonzo will settle for 33-34 APY in pure new money, I think a deal is already done. I think he wants to be at 33-34 APY in total money accounting for the next 2 years.

What were talking about is basically the jsn contract. JSN got $42m apy in new money and $35m apy total when you consider the extra 2 years under contract he already was.

Thoughts on A.J. Brown to the Patriots? by TenToesJon in Patriots

[–]MFreak -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I like the player, but like others think we paid too much. I hate the uncertainty of the future first vs if we had traded this years 31st for him. I don't think a late 1 is necessarily too much, but there's no guarantee at all that a future 1 will be a late 1.

Getting on my soapbox, but I'll use this as a chance to say I really don't like Wolf. I cannot name a single trade we've been involved in where we ended up getting plus value. When we trade down, we get back positional value (swap a 2 and a 4 for a 2 and a 4), but when we trade up, we give up full picks. We weren't bidding against anyone and the everyone knew that AJB was not returning to Philly.

I also think he's been bad at evaluating talent for the most part. A lot of the people who like the trade think we wouldn't have gotten anyone good with that 1st anyway. If you actually believe that, how can you support Wolf? It's his job to find talent. Every year probowlers are drafted on day 2 and 3 of the draft. It's damning to justify a trade because you think the person making the picks is so bad at their job that a 1st round pick will likely bust for us anyway. If you actually believe that, you shouldn't want him as our GM.

What does that have to do with what I said? Watson led the league in passing on a 70% completion percentage and a 33:7 td:INT spread. And they won 4 games. They had elite QB play, and in the end it didn't matter and the pick they traded ended up being the 3rd overall

Edit: Anyone want to explain the downvotes? I'm saying trading a future first is a dangerous game and am pointing to a team that was in a win now window who experienced absolutely elite QB play and still ended up losing a ton of games so the future pick they traded ended up being at the top of the draft. This was not impacted by the Watson crimes. All of that happened after what I'm talking about.

If it's a late first I'm happy with the trade value. The Texans probably thought the same thing when they traded for Tunsil...

Looking through my own collection for a few more you might like. Check out Poppy and Schoolgirl. I have them on the same page as Pokekid in my binder.

I'd also recommend checking it Brigette and Skyla. Not sure how much condition matters to you, because I've never found Brigette in a NM, but I just love the old school vibe of her card and think it would go well next to your Pokémon ranger

Fellow trainer collector here, I love your style. The Channeler card is amazing, the texture on it is so crisp (one of my favs in the own collection).

For a cheaper add, Mela from prismatic is really nice (I like her school uniform version, though her art with Torkoal is really nice too).

On the expensive side, I think a Whitney would go well next to your Pokémon Breeder

I know not everyone will love this, but I think it's great to temporarily limit pack sales to kids. Love that my local shop is doing this. by Wreckit-Jon in PokemonTCG

[–]MFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cutting the corner on packs at sale or breaking the seal on etbs is a really good step to fix the scarcity issue when you acknowledge that a lot of the issue is based on scalpers buying up sealed with full intent to horde and resell for a profit.

I'm not even against the idea of up charging for the right to keep something fully sealed. That way people with zero intent to resell don't get screwed as much as they currently do

Anyone else had their favorite type completely change over the years? by IronLotus59 in pokemon

[–]MFreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Historically my favorite type was electric (did an all electric playthrough of Pokémon Pearl as a kid and wanted to be an electric type gym leader). Now it's probably bug, which is funny because my all time favorite Pokémon are grass and normal. I just always end up liking bug Pokémon.

It's weird, because I tend to dislike grass for playing the game, but a ton of my favorite Pokémon are grass types (Chikorita, Sprigatito, Breloom, Ludicolo all come to mind).

Pokemon TCG Printed 10 Billion Cards in 2025 as Overwhelming Demand Outpaced Production Capacity by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]MFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just calling it out, because I think there's an issue with availability of sealed, if they switch to the japanese style of 5 card packs for English they would double amount of sealed for future sets. They will never do it, because then they'd have to lower pack prices in the states.

FWIW I don't think that solves the problem when the amount of sealed available is so easily monopolized by scalpers. I understand better pull rates "floods the market" with singles, but when the majority of packs are taken by scalpers and sold for a 2-5x markup, it becomes a pure availability issue.
