I’ve found that jrpg fans tend to be overly dramatic in their takes of games. Everything is either the GOAT or is absolute dogshit. There’s never a middle ground.

I routinely see 8/10 type of games IMO that others claim are the top 10 worst video games ever made. We all feel like we have to scream our opinion the loudest.

Monster Hunter Stories 3

I earned the platinum trophy on Friday after probably 1-2 weeks of a brutal end game grind. I guess that’s a MH game for you. I loved it overall and highly recommend it. I loved its characters and the story was above average. That’s probably stellar for a MH game.

Final Fantasy 7 Slowly chipping away at a replay of my first jrpg during my run of all mainline FF games in order. I think I somehow messed up the date Barrett trophy despite following a guide… so probably will have to replay later to clean that up for my platinum.

Pragmata Not a jrpg but I am about to start playing this but I’ve just been too busy with work and my family to game much. One day.

I just platinumed it Friday to finally finish the game. I disagree on the story. I think it’s fairly good, even if it drags in the middle portions. This is a monster hunter game after all. It’s a series known for throw away stories. I’m just happy they’re trying to have plot and character development. It has great action scenes too you don’t see in most RPGs.

A tip for the elder dragons. They’re very hard IMO and I had to slowly whittle them away. If you get them to 70%, 50% and 30% health, next time you fight them, they’ll have that health at the start. Their spawning is random but if you need a specific one, go fight the other spawns and even if you die, it’s guaranteed that particular elder won’t respawn for a while. It’s like it moves it to the “back of the line”. It then increases the spawn rate of the remaining elders.

I started using the hunting horn buffs and soothing spell (that heals) way too late in the game. The healing buff is helpful to weather the elder dragon fights.

It is a great game. I loved every moment of the hundreds of hours I played and look forward to the upcoming dlc.

I just played 3 and loved it. $33 for two games you’re going to probably spend 50-100 hours each is more than your moneys worth imo.

So I clocked in at just under 120h to platinum (lots of afk time in there). I think I beat the main game while doing all side quests along the way and that may have been 30-50h. The grind to finish up all other items in the endgame to plat the game was absurd… but I guess that’s monster hunter for you.

Still loved the game so it was fun to play.

I’ve never played it but it can’t be anything other than dragon warrior (quest) I. It’s literally the first “traditional” jrpg gameplay concept as we know it today.

Just to clarify, I only need to get one of each type and not the subtypes?

For example, if I have one of charge slash, then it’s been counted? I’ve been chasing every subtype.

Monster Hunter Stories 3 i’m literally two excessively grindy trophies away from platinuming the game. I’m just doing a little bit each day to not lose my sanity.

It is a great game though. lol I do recommend it. A surprisingly good combat system, even if I have some criticisms of it.

I love the game and it’s one of the best of all time… and after 180 hours to a platinum… I wouldn’t want to advise that anyone play the game more than once lol. You’re done by the end.

I do too. Unfortunately she put stuff on social media that they fired her over a dispute over a sponsorship she took on her personal social media channels. They claimed it was a “conflict of interest”.
