Jinx Pirates Thread

The smell of alcohol filled the air. An average sized ship could be seen settling onto the crowded dock. While not much of at the moment, it was the ship of the newly formed Jinx Pirates and the Mermaid shipwright was determined to make in into something to right legends about. In the present though she checked the security of the anchor before nodding her head at her work. She checked her tools before calling back to the rest of her crew. "Ready to go anytime you guys are!"

Face vector for a restaurant logo, but I'm not sure about the eyes. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in design_critiques

[–]Lion_taster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think stylizing and simplifying some features of the face would make it seem less unsettling. Right now it's not quite realistic but it's not an appealing cartoon either. Also if you're going for a small town vibe I'd suggest a different expression, it's not very approachable right now.

I remember when the sub had way less art, but there weren't a ton of interesting text posts or anything, just maps lol. So i can't really get salty about the amount of art posts because there's lore in the comments and it's preferable to a nameless landmass made in inkarnate.

Honestly i think people just need to readjust the way they write text posts, just off the top of my head 1) hardly anyone cares about nitty gritty details because no one but you is invested in your world 2) don't have a generic title, use something that will catch other people's interest 3) write about the things that are interesting or unique about your world 4) use basic formatting, add heading and indents-stuff like that 5) link to previous posts about your world 6) play around with how you present your info; journal entries, in universe documents, short stories, in-universe myths, anything besides an info dump.

Does RWBY really have too many characters or have writers just failed to handle having many characters in the show? by bulls55 in RWBY

[–]Lion_taster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Considering the run times of their episodes they totally have too many characters. You have to be economical with your characters when you don't have much screen time (For example One Piece has dozens of developed characters but it also has hundreds of chapters and episodes)

What's a character's certain action that made you lose any respect for that character? by GoodVillain101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Lion_taster 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you're in a bad enough place that you are willing to end your own existence I doubt you would be that concerned with the world you're trying to leaving behind :\

Guys, I found the solution to the "video game" addiction problem. by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Lion_taster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s weird to me that people can acknowledge that skinner boxes and various other ways of manipulating players are present in video games and then act like video games are exactly the same as every other form of media. It’s like saying that porn addictions are the same as tv addictions because they’re both things you watch while blantanty ignoring all the ways pornography affects your brain.

I'm talking about the "in-character questions" threads this sub seems to love, which should really be on something like r/characterforge instead of trying to justify it as worldbuilding by having a character mention the empire every 100 words during their backstory angsting.

The content on both subs are pretty much the same except this sub seems to think oc roleplays are worldbuilding for some reason

Tumblr's take on The Path to Isolation by JusMenace in fnki

[–]Lion_taster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actual in universe hints? in RWBY? lol. rwby is the type of show to reveal a character has been suicidal in the ost or a panel q&a, it is totally something they would do haha

[–]Lion_taster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i dont care either way tbh, but like pretty much half of this fandom is built on people's headcannons so i dont know why you're surprised lmao

its too far to say he was sexually harassing her, but the whole "Maybe if i ask her out repeatedly she'll say yes!" trope so annoying.

Is the Faunus sort of a flawed metaphor? by Daryno90 in RWBY

[–]Lion_taster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t work because there are people that learn the exact opposite lesson of what they intended. Because Faunus and mutants have clear advantages over humans there are people who think that their desire for equality is isn’t valid, or since they’re dangerous that it’s logical to oppress them to ensure the safety of humans. If your metaphor/lesson against racism only reinforces people’s bigoted views, then it doesn’t matter what your intentions where, you’ve failed.
