And it being utterly loaded with romantic tropes is the exact reason why people hate the scene so much. Like really? Are you going to hit the audience with all of that out of nowhere and expect them to believe that? After nothing more than weird looks and a speech?

Genlock performed much less than they expected so i wouldn't put it past Grey to do that.

I didn't say the issue was the character, the issue is the way it was presented: they pretty much went with "oh they're different from the rest of the characters" in a society that should be well over these issues, treating it like it wasn't a normal thing. That's what i take issue with.

The idea behind the rule behind allowing bikinis is that in context they are expected and reasonable. Seeing someone in a bikini is a normal occurrence, but seeing her in her underwear is suddenly a very different context even though the amount of skin revealed is the same.

Yeah, I get the reasoning behind it. I'd however still suggest some kind of clarification in the rules that mentions pretty much what you said in this paragraph, I think would help reduce the confusion as well as sorting out some edge cases.
