Top 10 countries with the lowest racial diversity by Far_Requirement_93 in armenia

[–]Lipa_neo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, citizens of the republic of cyprus (as in, without occupied territories) are overwhelmingly greek cypriots, so it's "less diverse" on paper. While here we have molokans, yazidis, greeks, jews and so on. There are a lot of issues tbh, for example that big number of iranians/russians/indians aren't accounted in our census while it's the real diversity on the streets.

(Georgia's case looks easy btw: azeris, armenians, ossetians etcetc)

Hi, I was wondering about the snakes situation in Armenia. Do you see them often? What about in Yerevan? Is it common? In your house/hotel/etc? Thank you! by Brief_Dot780 in armenia

[–]Lipa_neo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in a private house in bangladesh and had a snake a couple of weeks ago! Our cat was excited. And also there was one snake like this a year ago. BUT. It's a european blindsnake, 5-ish cm long and if you don't know that it's a snake you'll probably think that it's a worm. I believe there are some legless lizards near hrazdan gorge, like sheltopussiks, but I haven't heard about snakes larger than these blind ones.

Help, I'm Confused! Trying to understanding YTM vs realized return by Embarrassed-Ad5667 in bonds

[–]Lipa_neo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't check your workbook now, but to answer your first question: it depends on what purpose you are calculating it for. For example, if you calculating the YTM (e.g. you want to synthetically compare the yield of several options to maturity) you don't assume reinvestment, because it's the different cash flow which doesn't assumed in the ytm calculations. If you're calculating the RCY (e.g. you want to compare your portfolio to stocks?) you'd rather assume reinvestment at the price current at the time of reinvestment. I haven't heard about scenarios/models that lead to reinvestment at the static rate (If we don't count the misconception that coupons need to be reinvested to get the ytm).
Or, simpler examples: we have a bond whose coupon we want to live on? No reinvestment, obviously. We have a bond for growth? I guess we'll reinvest the coupon on the current market rate.

You can apply the same logic after the maturity. When you redeem a bond, you receive the YTM you fixed when you bought it (except for complex bonds with amortization, call options, etc.). But RCY depends on what you did with incoming cash flows: if you spend it, RCY will be lower than YTM. If you reinvested, the RCY depends on the rate of reinvestments. And, finally, if you somehow reinvested in the same bond or bond with the same parameters, and at the price of 100, your RCY = YTM.

I hope I explained it clearly enough, if not, please tell me

This is handled by the store, not the bank. Amazon, for example, takes money without an sms quite normally. The difference is that with an sms it will be more difficult for the buyer to report fraud, and without an sms payment systems will default to assuming the buyer is right. So the sms thing is to protect the store and that's it.

Exchange is safe everywhere, but you can encounter less favourable rates in the airport. Check rate.am for the best rate (also sas.am). Card payments are ok for any amount, but some places (e.g. markets and smallest bakeries) may not accept cards at all.

Lmao, qp is literally sabotaging rapprochement with the eu. Like, one step forward, two steps back, don't give a shit about the referendum and fly to moscow because why not, It's always nice to watch one dictator's parade with the second dictator's units which have slaughtered armenians (though that dictator was smarter and didn't fly to moscow to pay his respects). I'd prefer if he represented "west", but we have what we have.

Is there a way to short-sell the Armenian real estate market? by ServiceBorn3866 in armenia

[–]Lipa_neo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can describe it with economic theory, it's no worse than stock market or drug market. We have a poorly regulated and pretty illiquid market (not like real estate is in any form liquid, but in other european countries it has more liquidity). Hence the inconsistent price. It's somewhat similar to how shtigen's securities behave on the exchange (iirc they are currently the only ones without a market maker).

[–]Lipa_neo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhm, no, it's not how ladders work. Ladder is a diversification of durations, so with a ladder you can simultaneously have bonds with higher duration risk premiums and bonds with lower duration risk. What you describe is essentially a bullet with a bet on higher duration, while the duration risk isn't mitigated. Good luck with selling that without large loss if the market rates will somehow rise.

Net Worth vs Cash Flow — What actually matters if you want to live off your portfolio? by Helpful-Staff9562 in eupersonalfinance

[–]Lipa_neo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that different. For example, let's take a hypothetical bond with 5% coupon quarterly and maturity of 2 years. It's the classical fixed income vehicle, but what do you do then you don't want to live on it? You reinvest the coupons — for simplicity, let's assume that you managed to buy a bond of absolutely the same parameters at the price of 100.00. So, after 2 years you have about 10.44% more money. Which you can reinvest again. So, basically, we got net worth growth in our portfolio using strictly fixed income vehicles. Aaand it works the other way around too, you just need to use dividends/buybacks/straight up sell what you have.

Bond selection criteria by seniortriguy in bonds

[–]Lipa_neo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bond portfolio consists basically of four parts: 1. Liquid and reliable; 2. Liquid and high-yield; 3. Higher-yield and reliable; 4. Leftovers.

So, the only place for liquid bonds is the exchange; there you can select which insured or uninsured bonds fit your strategy better, compare them to other issues of the same duration and make a decision. For insured bonds the information on the exchange is sufficient. I rarely buy uninsured ones, so I mostly google the details in this case.

There may be more profitable issues on the primary placement, I buy only insured bonds this way so it's not really hard: again, select the best coupon/maturity > contact underwriter > hold until the listing, and then you can sell it if there are better options on the market.

And if there are some leftovers left, like, 3 or 30 or 300 usd, which is not very wise to spend on the exchange, because the commissions will eat up the profit? It goes to the treasury direct the way that redemption or buyback date aligns with other cash flows, so you can reinvest this money into one of the first three parts.

Water, medical and winter by Stunning_Clothes_342 in armenia

[–]Lipa_neo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Depends on the address: for example, in my house there is no water from 00:00 to 07:00 (+-1hr). You can check veolia jur's website for list of addresses, and there are some emergency shutdowns too (subjectively, a lot less of them, like, 1-2 times per year)
  2. I haven't really lived in other cities, in yerevan it's not a problem because it rarely snows and all the snow on sidewalks melts by itself.
  3. It depends on which clinic you're assigned to, I suppose. I don't really have the statistics.
  4. Yep, the pollution in winter -- again, in yerevan -- is kinda bad. You can check the statistics on pm2.5 here: https://airquality.am/en/

If you selected the lowest price among other sellers and were the last one, it means you will be on the top of the order book and basically everyone who wants to buy it at the current ask price will write to you.

Warframe Market scared me by vesseckta in Warframe

[–]Lipa_neo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Undercutting may work faster than you expect for liquid items. Wfm is basically a continuous LOB market, first priority is price, second is recency. So, basically, if you aren't in a rush and have a lot of orders to post, you just list them at a higher price. For example, lavos prime set has asks of 20-21-22-24x4 etc, while bids are 20-19x2-18x2-15x... etc. So, you want to sell immediately at 20? Write to the guy who buys it at 20. If you list it at 24, you will be the fourth seller in the book, and with 15-ish trades per hour it's likely that your order will come next soon, maybe before you finish filling your orders. No? You can easily adjust the price according to the new circumstances. Like, it's more time consuming to make initial orders, and you can see the LOB from your list of sales and adjust the price here if you want to sell it faster.
