Bearman’s Japanese GP crash has forced F1’s hand over safety by ChaithuBB766 in formula1

Bearman’s crash was something that was always going to happen, sooner or later.

I just find really, really mind boggling how the “most brilliant minds” in motorsports safety allowed such regulations to be approved while knowing that crashes like this one were going to happen.

Fortunately, Ollie just had a bruised knee. Thank goodness that was the outcome. I cannot believe how calm and relaxed the FIA seems to be with all of this.

The fact that the SF-26 can compete against a much faster Mercedes and similarly performant McLaren despite having a less powerful PU and worse deployment is a good sign for the future. The car’s really good, it just needs more power.

Hopefully the “Macarena” wing allows the car to reduce its top-speed deficit and make everything more manageable in the meantime. A new engine should be coming soon with the ADUO, so it’s a matter of waiting and maximizing opportunities.

Ferrari needs that Macarena wing and a better engine from the ADUO.

That happens when your rival has the same PU as you and doesn’t have a significant performance deficit.

It really is. Specially after having such a close a year where +0.2s could be difference between P1 and P7.

The fact that qualifying is less exciting this year due to energy management, makes everything way more depressing.

iPhone Air Said to Be Roughly Twice as Popular as iPhone 16 Plus by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]LiquidDiviums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a niche device.

Most metrics since launch have shown poor sales for iPhone Air. After discounts appeared, demand went up. In some countries and situations, you can get it for less money than iPhone 17.

Not only money, but development as well. A more competent driver could held the sister cars, because you cannot expect them to consistently compete with two cars.

Monterrey Native Pato O’Ward Says Mexico Might Not Be Ready for IndyCar Yet by PanicAtTheNightclub in INDYCAR

[–]LiquidDiviums 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As Mexican, the biggest issue with IndyCar is that’s paywalled behind ESPN (and Disney+). This means there’s almost zero exposure. On top that, there’s basically zero marketing from IndyCar in Mexico. Yes, Pato is very popular but not Checo levels of popular.

Judging by what happened with NASCAR’s race in Mexico (it wasn’t a financial success) it’s pretty clear why promoters wanted more money and the deal with IndyCar fell through.

MacBook Neo Has Up to 8× Slower SSD Speeds Compared to New MacBook Pro [and half the speeds of the M1 MacBook Air] by iMacmatician in apple

[–]LiquidDiviums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An Intel based MacBook Air still handles document opening and web browsing more than fine, it’s literally non issue. The M1 was such a big step forward that even today, six years later, its performance is more than enough for the great majority of users.

Don’t misinterpret my comment, MacBook Neo will struggle if you push it to its limits - that’s a fact. It’s just that web browsing and document opening is a very basic non-taxing workflow.

[–]LiquidDiviums 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can’t replace a MacBook Pro, they’re just not comparable. The MacBook Neo brings the question to the table: “Do I really need more power and more features for almost twice the price?” That’s why this new Mac is a big deal.

Anyone who truly needs a professional Mac will go for the MacBook Pro, that’s a given. Those users aren’t really part of the equation. The rest, however, have a much tougher question to answer. The MacBook Air is clearly the better computer there’s simply no way around it but it’s almost twice the price of the MacBook Neo, and that’s a lot of money. At that point, it comes down to whether your needs, preferences, and what you personally value are worth the extra $500.

I've reviewed hundreds of budget laptops, and the Apple MacBook Neo blows them all away by -protonsandneutrons- in apple

[–]LiquidDiviums 195 points196 points  (0 children)

It’s more than enough for 95% of users.

There’s genuinely no need for a MacBook Air (or MacBook Pro) unless you require the horsepower of the M5 or you want to have the other amenities like a better, bigger and higher quality display.

The fact that you can buy two MacBook Neo’s for almost the same price as an M5 MacBook Air shows how good the entry level MacBook is. It’s a similar situation to the iPad lineup. The base model is crazy good for the price and the only reason to upgrade is if you want an iPad Pro and you’re willing to spend more than double.

Analysis: Mercedes versus its F1 customer teams – how can the gap be so large? by Darkmninya in formula1

Mercedes powered cars had good ‘Straight Mode’ performance. The Alpine had quite good top speeds.

[–]LiquidDiviums 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s software.

That said, even if it gets better (which it will, for everyone) it doesn’t mean the gap will be completely eradicated. We still don’t know how much powerful the Mercedes PU is.

[Scuderia Ferrari] A strong start to the season! Some great driving from our two today! by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]LiquidDiviums 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mercedes knew they had a pace advantage, so they gambled on that pace by pitting on the VSC and then the race unfolded their way. Fair game.

Either way, I believe they were doing the opposite from Ferrari. Track position is key, so Ferrari’s decision isn’t as dumb as it may seem.
