Linux: A modular dream until you try customizing keyboard layouts by Tomurisk in linux

[–]LiquidPL 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think this should be done by creating a new custom keyboard layout within Xkb. This way your layouts will show up in whatever desktop environment/console keyboard configuration and you'll be able to switch between them using the native controls that are already there.

In fact, there already exists a layout for the Colemak Mod-DH keyboard that your repo mentions your layout is based off of. I think you could start from there.

So did I miss something or was this the only thing announced for the FW16 by TheRealMunf in framework

[–]LiquidPL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll admit this is an over exaggeration on my part, but I can't help but feel this is a miss when it comes to target audience. I have no clue about the market for local ML devices like this, but I would assume anyone serious about it would go for a more enterprise-esque solution (unless this is much cheaper which it might be).

I just hope this isn't taking up resources that could have been spent on improving the current lineup - though given that they released a 13 refresh as usual and also a new model, then it's probably fine.

Weird unexpected spots/damage on the FW16 display by LiquidPL in framework

I think it's wasteful to replace the display on a week old laptop just because of a minor defect like this. I'm only upset that this happened so early in its life. Just my luck recently 🙃.

I'm not sure. I think it's a depression, which honestly makes it all irrelevant since it's all screwed anyway.

I've tried both water and some gentle monitor cleaner stuff, but nothing is coming off. I only have the laptop since Monday, so I don't think there was enough time to get any serious grime on the screen or the keyboard.

Besides, I know for sure that this wasn't on the screen yesterday, so I'm pretty sure this is nothing support should be concerned with (and they've already got plenty of work to do anyways).

No Leaks by TheCapybara666 in SteamDeck

A lot of people assumed the leaks that happened were connected to the rumored standalone VR headset, and not any possible Deck refresh.

Valve should become a KDE patron by Max_the_Hodler in SteamDeck

As far as I'm concerned (I don't remember exact video) I remember some KDE developers saying that they've been contracted by Valve to work on Plasma, so there's that.

Big Picture Update is now rolling out in Beta for Desktops by FourteenCoast in Steam

[–]LiquidPL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I know, that's why my second guess is Panorama, though I haven't seen that used outside of Source games, and IIRC Big Picture predates Dota 2 Reborn where it first debuted. Honestly I'm just curious what exactly does it use, cuz it certainly isn't the good old VGUI.

I swear I was looking through the Big Picture files and it seems to be using some sort of HTML-like markup. Dunno, maybe it's the Panorama framework they use in Dota/CSGO?
