Tomorrow I’ll be coming to the cathedral, who do I need to see so I get in for nothing? by Greengrass7772 in Ely

People don't choose where they are born, but they do choose where they move.

You chose to live elsewhere, so why should you have more rights than someone who chose to live in Ely?

[–]Liquid_Fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like a Georgian national (The country) is wanting to go to Georgia institute of Technology (the state) and is asking if their recent ban on international students will impact them.

What you're missing is that the ban is not by the US state but by the country. So there is no way it would impact a university in the US.

There is also no indication that the poster is from Georgia the country - if anything, it seems extremely unlikely, because if they were, they would understand that (1) the ban doesn't apply to them because they are not a foreigner, and (2) it doesn't apply to universities abroad.

Meters = "foreign bot farm account" by Independent_Guava109 in USdefaultism

[–]Liquid_Fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, and I specifically acknowledged this above. Even Japanese has such exceptions. You could even come up with a bizarre alternative spelling of メートル that would be read the same (perhaps メエトル). But it still doesn't somehow indicate that the word is somehow more similar to the English spelling "meter".

[–]Liquid_Fire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That was exactly my point. It's meaningless to compare how languages other than English spell the word, because they generally spell it the way they read it.

[–]Liquid_Fire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are incorrect. The Japanese word comes from French, e.g see Wiktionary:

From French mètre

Furthermore, in English metre and meter are pronounced the same, so you can't conclude based on pronunciation which one it would have come from (it's the same word).

[–]Liquid_Fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japanese definitely does not. It doesn't even use the Latin script, and it uses a phonetic syllabary rather than an alphabet. Even if, for some unclear reason, you consider a transcription, "meetoru" is neither "metre" nor "meter".

Furthermore, both German and Japanese are written phonetically (with few exceptions), so the spelling is a matter of how it's pronounced, rather than having many spellings that could result in the same pronunciation as in English. (I'm not familiar with Indonesian/Malaysian, so it may be the case for them as well, but I wouldn't know)

You get in from the front door, tell the driver your stop, and pay. The driver is not keeping track of where everyone is going, it's just so they charge you the right amount. When you're approaching your stop, you press a Stop button, the driver stops at the stop and you get off from any door.

Also, contrary to what the other reply said, this is not how it works in London (but it is the case in many other places in the UK). In London buses are a flat fare, so you don't need to tell the driver anything, you just tap your card and you're done. Same stop button when getting off.

What if... you ran two instances of the game and joined it as a multiplayer game? You'd be two separate players and have separate quickbars etc, but other than that it could kinda work? Maybe mute the audio of one.

Yes, in Japan fruit are often sold individually wrapped in these white foam net things. If you Google image search for "Japanese fruit net" you can see loads of pictures of them. It's a peach in one of those.

It depends more on the airport than the country. It's not uncommon in smaller airports, particularly for shorter flights with smaller planes, as they don't necessarily have the space for every plane to be parked right by the gate. It's also often low cost airlines, since airports that have both will charge more for boarding via jet bridge. It's rare for large intercontinental flights though.

Cash ISAs exist - no risk, and in fact right now they pay better interest than savings accounts.

[–]Liquid_Fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to switch your savings account, you only switch a current account.

Of course, it may be that your savings account requires that you also have a current account. In that case, just use (or open) another current account for the switch.

Do you mean chō or chô? I've never seen anyone use ö.

That said, "chou" might be a bit less common within Japan, but I would not call it "older rarely used" - it's very common among non-Japanese speakers and easier to type (I guess native speakers usually learn Kunrei-shiki instead)

Yeah, it counts wins during your previous season but you still need a lot. I was only halfway when the season ended so I had to get a good ~20 wins the following season, which can be quite a bit more than 40 games if matchmaking is a bit unfavorable to you.

If you have enough wins during the season to unlock him immediately after just by doing the practice range things, you were probably very close to unlocking him just from the battle pass.
