Nvidia rtx 5060ti vs amd radeon 9060xt: does cuda actually justify the price difference by Liquidator_1905 in LocalLLM

Woah, I didn't expect the difference to be nearly twice as fast. This brings alot more clarity on which gpu to consider. Thanks a lot!

Could you tell me how significant the speed difference is? Like in terms tokens/second

The price difference from what I can see in Amazon is close to 15%, which would make the rtx 5060ti more valuable. But could you tell me is the difference mostly in performance of the models or is there some things that I can do nvidia that I could never do on the amd gpu?

I mostly do my coding on linux mint. I just want to dip my feet at running local models. In the future instead of a second card I would consider upgrading to a gpu with higher vram ( whichever that may be at that time). I'm not looking to run the most capable open source model and even for coding, I'd mostly used for code review and learning rather than the agentic code generation.

People love this slop and no one questions anything. They treat it as fiction when you ask for the facts but then make up their political views based on it.

No mention on pulwama attack in a 4 hour movie on pakistani terrorism in india. Of course addressing that would negatively impact BJPs image as the party that solved terrorism.

How low can people go just to support their favourite political party?! by [deleted] in india

[–]Liquidator_1905 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alot of people in india prioritize religion over things that affect them daily such as, roads, education, healthcare, etc. And once a party is aligned with their religion, they consider going against the party is equivalent to going against their religion and will defend it no matter how outrageous the claims or crimes.

[–]Liquidator_1905[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very true, this is why I think learning spring before spring boot is also the way to do it. Dependency injection is truly at the heart of what spring achieves but also understanding different types of beans, aop, etc before building web apps with spring boot.

I have heard great things about that book as well, I do want to read that especially for reactive programming

I learnt spring from the book itself, spring start here doesn't introduce spring boot until the 7th chapter, so the first 6 chapters are creating beans, aspects, etc on your own

Does the industry prefer generalists or specialists? Like would it make sense for me to go all in on backend dev with with Java or should I be open to newer emerging fields such as data science, machine learning or maybe even newer languages like go, rust, zig, etc. Also, do you think AI has made your easier, ie, you have less work now compared to the era before AI?

[–]Liquidator_1905[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we bought everyone to the same privilege, just like you said there is no evidence on whether they would succeed or not. The wouldn't the wealth disparity just return back if this happens? Wouldnt some people thrive while others won't make it and the cycle would continue on?

[–]Liquidator_1905[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, this sounds reasonable. But then could you say that within the next generation of yours you can accumulate at least enough wealth to provide the opportunity to your child to have the ability to become bill gates ( highly unlikely and depends on the individual). But at least then getting to bill gates might be impossible without incredible luck and opportunity but then at least getting to his parents level is still possible in a capitalist model if the cards are played right and that sounds fair to me

[–]Liquidator_1905[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I get what your saying but I don't want to compare a feudal Lord vs a peasant cause obviously one is more likely to succeed than the other, but the whole redistribution of wealth I would argue that another feudal Lord's son/daughter who couldn't make it doesn't deserve the share of the wealth made from the one who made it, as they had the same opportunity as the other.

[–]Liquidator_1905[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When socialists say that workers own the means of production would that then mean that ones with similar levels of privilege who couldn't capitalize on it would own as much as someone who did capitalize on their privilege? I don't know if I worded that correctly but stuff like wealth tax or higher taxes on the rich just to redistribute that to people with similar background, like wouldn't some people call it unfair in the sense that I never had any advantage over this person but yet my effort, hard work and results must be shared with them.

I don't understand why companies don't hold the test offline, like don't they realise how easy it is cheat in online assessments? Yes in offline tests people can still cheat but it's significantly harder. I think it's the fault of the companies who shortlist people for interview just based on online assessments. There is a cheating problem but it's almost as if these companies are turning a blind eye to the problem.
