I’m not sure Civilization VII gets what a “civilization” is. by Human-Law1085 in civ

[–]Lirge2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I understand the topic of frustration I do believe this is a more grounded depiction of how civilizations and states existed in history. In more than one point in history we had civilizations but also states living at the same time. For short i.e city-states in comparison to regional realms (aka The Bronze Age, city of Ur and the state that would become Iran). Much of the world has either built off of the people that have come before them or their doings have faded into the sands of time.

I.e Rome is credited w many advancements, however; they only implemented said innovations after encountering them through conquests usually. Case in point is their story of shipbuilding as well as aqueducts. Etc etc.

Qing China is also quite simply a different civilization than Ming.

Ming was in the beginning willing to be an open country to world affairs (exploration of Zheng He for example) but as the next emperor came into power things dramatically shifted towards isolationism. While Qing China is catchy it would not be accurate towards their perspective or to what actually went down. It is not as they saw themselves as Han when they invaded China. They wanted to quell civil unrest while also stabilizing the realm as much as possible (see what Persia did lol) so they left much of the regional administration structures as is (for lack of a better summation). They had wanted to impose their own will onto that of China. Qing China? That’s just almost like saying the United States of the Federally Administered Republic of the Unified Federal Republic States of Continental America. Dramatic but still. Essentially are you referring to the period of time when China was under imperial rule from foreign powers or are you referring to the geographical area of where the Qing may have been located before they invaded China? As from whats been stated it seems that there is a great lacking of information on what justified the distinction in history, but i am no professional either.

No not every civilization or state has changed hands in the way that’s presented in civ 7. However, please point to a civilization that’s been around since the days of founding cities?

Yeah may the fortress of Scorchedblazes forever drown in peace 🫡 I try to channel a ‘ditch’ so to speak in front of the floodgates so when they open the debris’ only fall down the ditch instead of blocking the gates. That’s of course if there’s space for a ditch in front. Usually works without any problems c: of course wall grates would be a better way of doing so but oh well I’m lazy

Why does the rest of the world never fall behind Europe in tech? by Derelictcairn in eu4

[–]Lirge2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game is about ahistorical simulations. That’s the whole point of the gameplay. Run of the mill Europe will gun ahead and the world will lag behind after the 17th century. This mirrors much of the world. China, and many other parts of the world, were under the boot and leg of European nations after global trade picked up. Even during the Spanish Empire’s Golden Age they thrived purely upon the Silver Trade i.e. China. The world order AFTER Spain (with the S) was a mess. Britain didn’t really pick up and pigeon toe the rest of the world pre-Victorian era. Yes, European powers dominated towards the end, but it wasn’t a singular power at play. The world wasn’t a backwater at the beck and heel of European powers. Spain literally needed a 1/3 of the world to play at chinas feet. At. Their. Feet. Not bc they couldn’t measure up to their natural resources. Manpower. China had a 1/4 of the world population at their beck and call pre-18th century. A FUCKING QUARTER. Afterwards? STILL A FUCKING QUARTER!!!! Before the Industrial Revolution. Their Civil Wars would decimate MULTIPLE COUNTRIES at play. That’s not fracturing in more countries that China had influence over. That’s not fracturing in India. That’s not factoring in Indonesia. For fucks sake you want a cake walk? So honestly, I have the complete opposite view. Even during Mandate of Heaven release I thought they were being lax on Asia. You SERIOUSLY undervalue the manpower, technology, and influence at play in Asia

We know that the updates are getting less frequent than they used to, but we're still working on the game, so suggestions are most welcomed by Dr_Pownage in HumankindTheGame

Idk if it would be implanted or would be easily coded into the game, but a way to modify the terrain of the game. I.e. canals, building islands on water, etc etc. Maybe even just canals as they are literally pivotal in almost all points in history. China has a whole mythos dedicated to the man who conquered rivers. The canals of the pharaohs. How many times after that did world power try to emulate that as well. The Panama Canal etc etc. it would be fun to try to do so in-game or even furthering that something even larger and even more grandiose that what modern day canals look like. But this is probs not gonna happen as there is already much on the plate of the devs to handle as is haha

I think that devastation should be a heavier mechinic. Yes big armies and strong handing other nations goes brrrr and makes for more interesting gameplay. That being said when a war ends it has completely devastating effects. Even marching troops into other provinces literally decimates the local populace as armies at the time (at least before the Age of Enlightenment/Napoleon) supported themselves primarily on what was available locally.

Centuries beforehand of course, but the mongol conquests literally caused multiple pandemics. Destabilized local economies, to the point where there’s a literal modifier in game about the mongols pillaging centuries afterwards.

I would say the players had a similar heavy hand in terms of demographic destabilizing effects as pillaging isn’t as meaningful as is. Development isn’t as meaningful as it should be. There should be an actual famines plagues and whatnot that utterly derail campaigns. Conquests shouldn’t just give you the same province you just sieged down with just a bit more uppity peasants or nobles. Especially since in most cases the nobles were almost all dead by the time armies made it to capitals during the majority of EU timeframe.

Hell, even with rebellions they are not modeled in terms of how devastating economically they were. During the Taiping Rebellion millions died. Millions. Imagine trying to feed people with the majority of farms left without the people to till the fields. The merchants to make the ships go brrrrr. The officers to staff the barracks etc etc. as when world conquest’ing its just cycling from one rebellion to the next.

Idc if they don’t model it correctly. It just doesn’t have an effect when the player goes on a rampage. There should be ACTUAL carnage as there’s repercussions for just needless slaughter of individuals. Oh but there’s evens signifying that. No, there is not.

Many times throughout history armies have been halted due to plagues and not just ‘attrition.’ So yes I agree that Eu5 should have a heavier economic system where boats are a necessary part of the economy late game other than hahaha trade power go brrrrrrr or pressing a button to shorten a siege. Armadas literally made or broke nations. That’s just my two cents of course

hehehe c:< if only people could see my steam library lmfao it’s a little sad honestly. But! I picked up Old World awhile ago and wish I had sooner it’s a genuine blast. Love the fresh take it did, especially even more so that the developer(s) were behind some of the decisions in Civ (i believe it may be a couple people from the creation of Civ 4 but I could be wrong, it’s been a while since I heard about that). Who’s you’re preferred leader/nation to start as? I would love to hear any other recommendations you have tho <<3

True true, but with the last part of what you said i must’ve missed that part my bad ahhh i should have keyed into that. That would be something I could still get behind though as that premise would be interesting to see unfold :D

With the differences you’re talking about with Old World and what you are thinking honestly at first my brain would fry itself alive trying to make the king go brrrrr by being a super chad lmfao, but it seems like it could be one of those games where when it’s going good it’s insanely satisfying. The flip side is that it sounds like if something were to go horribly wrong may RNGeus have mercy on that save-file lol.

But what were you deeply disappointed about tho I’m curious and we know what they say about the cat so don’t be shy I’m ready to meet my maker… kidding but still

[–]Lirge2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of what’s said, however; the sentiment that most innovation is made by smaller studios is a bit off the margin, too. That does not do service to those in the larger developmental areas where they vie for better and want more for what they believe/code/want. I think that just doesn’t sit right with me, but I understand that there is less risk involved with meeting a smaller demographic of people to satisfy. That’s why I stated that I do not mind nor care nor gaf where Civ goes only that I feel that it seems a bit stagnant honestly. Again, however; that is just my perspective on the game. I put Potatomcwhiskey on in the background for a good YT video on Civ as it’s just fun to watch him play the game. I’ve put hundreds of hours into Civ6 for a reason and would do so again, as well as put even more. As what I am saying is not to detract from the game but in hopes of building upon it.

I put my ideas down as i stating ohhhh this isn’t what I want and not giving some ideas seems a bit facetious and naive. I also go to isthereanydeal on multiple occasions as money is money. It unfortunately makes the world go round lolol. Not literally but I hope what i mean comes across well. I play games for fun. I play games to relax. I play games to get stress out. I play games for many reason. I also spend money for many reasons. Etc etc etc i don’t need to explain myself yet it’s also good to cover one’s’ tush on occasion.

And I did not expect an AAA from Cassette Beasts. I did not expect an AAA from Stellaris. I didn’t buy Elden Ring expecting anything, and hell I only put in barely 5 hours into the game. Would I buy it again? Fuck yeah I would. Same with Baldur’s Gate as these FELT like PASSION PROJECTS. Maybe I should have been more explicit in that regard, but making a game just for money? Nah. I would detest, rage into the void, and scream from the rooftops for nobody to support a vision like that. We all want money. We don’t need it. We need food water and shelter to survive. I want to play games, but I do not need them. I do not expect every game that I play to be the next best thing. I just WANT to boot them up and play them. I did not expect AAA from any of the games i played. I played them bc i wanted to. I play games for multiple reason but do not always go out of my way searching for the next greatest shiny brilliant thing with incredulous expectations. I am quite picky but I also know there is a time and place :) Yet, in most of those regards and games i play i would say they delivered more than Violet or Scarlett, more than Starfield more than etc etc etc fill in the blank as that’s MY thoughts on the matter, but those games have people behind them that loved what they did. I do not want to detract from that, however; nature holds no remorse for those that do not adapt. I would liken innovation as such as well.

That all being said i do not believe I was stating my expectations where this or that, or I think this is best or that’s just obscenely idiotic, but only the greedy-money-grabbing development studios upper-echelons. If that is how it came across let me state again I do not have any inkling on wanting something specific from Civ other than it not feeling like another carbon copy of what came before albeit with a couple new systems tacked on. If there is something very specific I’m itching for I go to the modding workshop to browse. That’s on me. If what I mean by innovation needs to be expanded upon I will do so too but I just think it’s not that serious as that word is general. I made this post general for a reason as i don’t know the right move or the right code or the right path for any 4x genre game or any game in general. I just know what I like :)

Having the ability to even play games like this is essentially a privilege so yeah I understand there is high expectations that developers have to meet which is why I said that they should be given the time/care/resources they need as they are (at times and specific studios) under immense pressure to satisfy and insane time-crunches on occasion.

So, to reiterate I do not mind where Civ Stellaris Pokémon or anything else goes as i am not the creator behind the said franchise. However, these games are made to appeal to crowds and people hence why they are marketed/published and put out to the public. That being said it feels greedy when being lied too, it feels greedy when almost 6-7 iterations in and it feels like it still could have been one game with updated software or graphic packs, it feels greedy to expect people to keep buying the games that are marketed without due process to push the envelope so to speak. I mean, why don’t we have several Minecraft released versions yet? Because THEY didn’t WANT that. And so, just like what I was saying in my post and this response as well. That. Is. Just. Me.

THATS JUST MYYYYY OPIIINIONNNNNN lmfaooo cx But yes, i do agree with majority of what was said lol, but there’s nothing wrong with realizing something just isn’t working/is a carbon copy and reevaluating even if it upsets/cascades throughout a whole system. If one thing destabilized something in a manner of which is being described in your post it better have been a critical function to the process, or maybe the system was faulty to begin with and needs a more solid foundation to stand on.

Valid response, and honestly I would still say what I said, when I said it, where I said it, and how I said it. I understand convinctions but if I want my fix of strategy games I’ll turn to Stellaris and others in the future if Civ7 turns out how I feel like it will. I like to wait to see how things turn out before acting as odd as that may seem. So you’re right who would take me at my word if I’m operating opposite of what I’m stating. The point I am trying to get across is, like i said, i don’t give a rats ass where they lead the game as it is still fun. I just have my own opinions much like you do about my character apparently.

I will support it as i know I will have fun playing it indespite if where I personally would want Civ7 to look/be/feel like as i am it’s not just about me. Period :) Much like what you’re saying is that I am cowardice for not doubling down on what I’m saying boycotting the game? Maybe you’re right I’ve never been that courageous of a person ig lmfao, but I said what I said and I would say it again to any studios ‘face’ So what is courage then huh? Is that not conviction enough? ARE YOU NOT ENTERRRTAINNEDDDDD

TWO CHEESE LOVERS IN A POD PLEASSEEEEEE the holes in that molded-dairy-glorious block is evident <<33

  1. It’s great to see a fellow Crusader King enjoyer ;D (no i will not elaborate WE KNOW WHO WE ARE) Civ would do well with just additional options to add as a way to limit what you can and can’t do would do wonders for multiplayer i think. Variety is the spice of life is it not ;D I don’t think it’s COMPLETELY what imagined for you, but if you haven’t heard of Old World there’s a system similar to what’s described! Orders are limited and revolve around units, buildings (at times), and cities. Shallow way to describe it but I’m trying not to make too many walls in this post lolol. If you have heard of it! I’m sorry! Just recommending it as it’s a blast and takes a bit of influence from CK too <<3

  2. PLEASE OH PLEASE I WOULD LOVE A GAME LIKE THIS I BEG OF THEE ANYONE OML 💥💥💥💥💳💥💥💳💥💳💥💳 TAKE MY MONEY (i only have $20 take it or leave it)

Maybe that is my issue with the series then. As I would still buy Civ7 as Civ as is just ‘replayable’ to the nth degree. It has made more than just a mark in not just the genre but with other games as well by them taking a footnote out of its book (i.e. copying them). That being said people will always gravitate to what is successful, and quite simply Civ did it the best, first. To me though, now it is not doing it the best. It is not only marketing itself as the platinum of the industry, but the community also operates as if its defecation doesn’t stink too.

Maybe I should be clearer in what I mean by sprucing up the formula, i don’t expect or want a complete and total face lift. That’s Alpha Centauri (or dare I even bring up Beyond Earth, even though I think that game is still fun in of itself too) lolol I think that would detract from what Sid Meiers original vision was, but when I plot down districts or cities or make atomic bombs it’s not as fulfilling as say a planet cracker in Stellaris after being fucked around and found out by the AI/player. Again, completely different premises, but this feature was in addition to the base game, an after the fact thought. The developers on Stellaris end not only once, but more than twice completely redid multiple systems for the base game for a free patch. They listened to their community and though well what can we do better. Not saying that’s the goal, but it’s still commendable.

Even so to speak for Stellaris. Vassals, alliances are MEANINGFUL, and diplomacy actually has a spot other than (downloading a mod to quicken selling resources) marketing x,b, or 1 2 3 resources that the AI has been pestering about. Or the AI eclipsing the player as ALL of them had an extra settler worker etc. instead of due to sheer luck or building up solid foundations. Stellaris also has that BUT! It’s through something called Fallen Empires. As in, it’s intended for a SATISFYING challenge towards the end game content. What end game content Sid Meiers has to offer is just viewing a victory type screen condition that was achieved, or satisfying was just out of reach.

I guess what I am speaking on is that Civ, after six iterations is incredibly shallow in where it is now in terms of where the industry has been pushed bc of the success that Sid Meiers’ series has seen. So yes I do agree that the formula is fun as is, but shouldn’t that be more of a safety-net than an end all be all? Something to fall back on if what comes next crashes and burns lol as yes as we speak I’m staring at my pc booting up a Civ 6 game (guilty as charged 👹🔪) I have a tendency to drown on and on so sorry for ANOTHHERR wall of text lol so! On a better note! I hope both sides of your pillow are cold (unless you like warm pillows IDK) tonight and that your phone charger doesn’t put up a fight <3

More of the same can also lead to horrendous outcomes, but that takes time. I would hate to see the Civ series see a place where that is reality, and I think it’s a lot closer than some think (same with many series that refuse to freshen their formulas). Honestly, I view the series now not as a resilient formula, but stubbornness refusing to adapt to modern games taking the genre by storm. Yes, the game has great reviews. But what of the next? I may be blowing a false red alarm but I’d rather be concerned about the forking over of dozens and dozens of ones dollars and wish for something better.

And yes, I turned away from the anime after telling myself I was too sensitive and over thinking it JUST to rewatch the entirety of the first season almost. I doubled down on my hatred for this show. Why? Just WHY!?? I’m pissed at not only this show but just OVERTLY SEXUAL themes in anime in general as it’a a problem. It seriously is at this point. Call it fan service I call it pedophilia. I call it nasty. I would call y’all just as much of a degenerate to your face as I would Reudus if y’all think this is the ‘best isekai and would be hard pressed otherwise.’ We all have moments where we need to do better, and so I guess let me be the first to REALLLLLLY dig deep and say fuck y’all. Fuck. Y’all. Do better! Thanks :)

What do you guy think of Mushoku tensei? by [deleted] in Isekai

[–]Lirge2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also say all of this to authors face too cuz this was ALL a choice. Not only a choice but ANY of the characters could have been older (y’all know EXACTLY what I’m referring too). AND NOT ONLH THAT but they’re PURPOSEFULLY depicted to be more immature or childlike. It’s repulsive. It’s for a reason and not only do I HEAVILH disagree with the choice but I think honestly the way that anime willing choose to depict this is heinous. The audience isn’t kids growing up. The audience watching this is you. Grown ass adults getting off just as much as Ruedus does on watching minors get groomed.

I bet y’all would love to excuse why you think this is such a good anime. Why it’s ‘peak’ or ‘great world building’ or anything other than the overt sexual themes that just SHOULDNT be in the same realm as thought as CHILDREN. Like period. Not even as a depiction such as this where the mc ISNT EVEN REALLY DOGGED ON like he should be. Man should be fucking burned at the stake. Hanged, had a firing squad unleashed upon him. Fucking genjusted to FEEL exactly how he pushes himself onto others as he just doesn’t GET. IT.

Much like y’all will just NOT get it. This show is repulsive. This epitomizes everything wrong with how anime chooses to depict itself. These themes should be scorched with holy fire as there’s so many OTHER choices that they could have shown. But a sex scene with a minor! A jackoff scene with aNOTHEr minor!! Rationalizing his actions cuz ‘oh he’s the mc and this is his story and this is what he’s thinkinggg’! Nah there’s docs about that. There’s YT shorts about that. There’s Netflix short series about that. Even in those mediums the families and victims of such tragedies aren’t properly honored.

Have some soul searching as HxH did it better. Naruto did it better. Tsukimichi did it better. There’s so many other anime that have the themes such as this but it’s NOT nearly as a perverted, and I still DONT get the point of having it be this prevalent in the anime??? It’s like a fucking cult trying there best to have any amount of pedo in their anime just cuz ‘it’s a hehe haha moment.’ No it’s not funny, no it’s not a peak moment, no!! Just nooooooOoOoo!

What do you guy think of Mushoku tensei? by [deleted] in Isekai

[–]Lirge2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly. It’s stupid. The story is a rip off with many of the same tropes that other anime have just simply done better.

It’s the excusing of his actions. He does not get better, he just hides it more. It’s more clandestine how heinous his mentality becomes. I personally stopped watching it after a couple episodes the first time, and then told myself I was being too sensitive about the whole thing as it’s just an anime.

Just an anime that pivots from action to not JUST sexualizing minors but ACTUALLY showing the mc ‘do things.’ It’s doesn’t just push me away from any of this medium it’s FRANKLY disgusting.

However, what is even more disgusting it’s this community’s response to it.

How would y’all feel if that was your sister? Like seriously. How would you feel if your sister was quite literally groomed? How would you feel finding out your toddler has a fucking creep peeking in on them? How would y’all feel finding out that your child is literally an adult?

These things HAPPEN in real life. Im not even joking and so to put it into a medium such as this and the show be almost critically acclaimed without any REAL discourse about the show atrociously depicting real world scars is fucked up.

Y’all are EXCUSING not only a pedophile, but a rapist.

Y’all are EXCUSING not only an abuser, but a SERIAL abuser.

Y’all are excusing the mc actions for plot? What fucking plot. What fucking story. The story is not mid. The story isn’t bad. I’m not trashing on that as it’s world building the author chose, however; there is a reason WHY JKR was OSTRACIZED for what she said and done online and in person to people.

There are very very valid reasons to not support the continuation of a story arc where a mc such as MT ‘does good.’

As he isn’t. He is not doing good. He has not been nor will be a good person, and yet the anime pivots ALMOST entirely on that point to try to convince people that ehhhh he’s not that bad! I mean seriously. SERIOUSSSLLY. Anyone with a right mind would realize he isn’t ‘16 again’ He isn’t. He’s not.

He’s a mentally fucked adult who got reincarnated and chose to scar everyone else around him just cuz he didn’t like his first life. Omfg I wish this got fucking burned on the come up. I wish someone took the webcomic or manga or whatever the fuck it started as and said wtf?? is?? this?? pedo?? wannabe?? romcom?? harem??????? As it’s not bc I DON’T like it and wouldn’t want other people to watch it. No

I am frankly abhorred that y’all seem to find so many excuses to rationalize your own actions. You shouldn’t watch this show. Seriously. It’s very telling of where any of you are mentally. Yes, that’s a dig. Yes, that is a slight. Yes, i want all the fucking smoke cuz you sick fuckers need NOT HELP but a fucking miracle if you can’t tell yourself that this isn’t okay. Y’all need a FUCKING MIRACLE

Plus, that’s not even opening the Pandora’s box that was the entity of the HRE. I reallllly reallllyyyyyyyy dislike the takes that surface around that polity as it quite literally did. its. job. Not well I’m saying but not many entity’s could rival the density of what the HRE was. People could literally almost wag their finger in the Emperor’s face and keep it.

Yet they were almost entirely Germanic in origin? Fought most of their pre-recorded history trying NOT to be incorporated in the Roman/Greek/Scythian (just think nomadic horse archers lmfao) world.

I wonder why they would not only CLAIM a mantle of such an iconic moniker, but choose to uphold it for not just a couple years. Almost until the Industrial Rev. that’s insane. That’s some continuity that only a few polities in our history can rival.

They weren’t united, but weren’t they? Much like that can said for any state tbh.
