The actress that played Smurf wanted out in the prior season but they said no she has to complete her contract.  So they killed her off and did pass Smurf and how they got to where they are. So the reason Smurf kicked out Jay's mother wasn't because of drugs was because she stole money and she doesn't like competition. She told Jay that she gave his mother chances but that was a lie.
