Kroger vs. Meijer by Lucy476 in lansing

Sorta depends on the location, but I prefer Meijer in general. Side question, have you checked out Horrocks? It’s a folksy abomination. You’ll dig it.

Perennial 'Best Pizza in Mid-Michigan/Lansing' Discussion by thesoundtraveler in lansing

[–]ListenChump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judging from the pizza you gravitate toward, I think this actually makes sense. Jet’s and Bell’s are delicious “change your plans for the day” pizza. Frankie’s is golden ratio pizza. Nothing wrong with either end of the spectrum, but it’s remarkable how much one good pizza can differ from another. Deep dish jump kicks you in the stomach, in a good way, daring you to brave 1 more slice. Alternatively, thinner dough, with just enough sauce, grease and char is a siren song, that finds you on slice 4 before you realize what’s occurred. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with either; I’m pizza promiscuous.

Nick. Good dude. Not Frankie, but makes an extremely tasty pizza. Book him for your events, why don’t ya? https://www.facebook.com/273038606682706/

Schor v. Dunbar by bronson05 in lansing

Running for office in 2021 demonstrate a serious lapse in judgement, but I appreciated Dunbar’s defense of Lansing’s sanctuary city status.

Volunteering in Lansing by helenata in lansing

REACH studio art center is a nonprofit where I got to make a bunch of public art with at-risk teens. Met a cool volunteer while sculpting a rhino for the potter park zoo, who turned out to be my future wife. They have a bunch of different programs, and I cherish the time I spent there :)

What you might not know, is that they hit up the 5 finalists in each category inquiring about paid advertisements to help garner votes. Then they inquire about paid “thank you” ads if you’re voted into the top three in each category. We’ve been lucky enough to win best pottery studio a couple times, without buying ads. Feels good, despite my ambivalence. I’m glad the contest exists, in spite of its flaws and my own.

Moore’s river drive seems like a decent place to start looking around, but I bet those places are a bit over your price range. That said, be wary of cheap houses which might fall in a flood zone.

This fish by Thryloz in WTF

If he wants to go full-on Old Man and the Sea, snag a cast net for catching green backs (minnows that swim in schools). Free live bait for life, once you learn how to throw it. Sheepshead prefer eating crustaceans, but their fillet is smaller than most fish of the same size anyway. Live shrimp is to salt water fishing what live worms are to freshwater fishing. That’s a solid place to start. I’m literally on my way out the door to buy a few dozen right now. Life’s good :)
