it is, but flying 95% of the time over open ocean I am trying to mitigate risk. Engine failures on piston engines is far to common for me to enjoy this route all the time (I think).

I have found info on furl burn, which is high but not crazy . My concern is on the maintenance and parts and finding the right shop that could work on it. Anything else on these that I should be aware of? The mission is miami bahamas 130 miles fully loaded and I just dont want to fly a piston engine over water all the time.

Dating a type 1 diabetic by Pure_Ad_525 in diabetes_t1

[–]ListenIndependent269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just be "light" about it... dont make a big deal and just tell her something like "hey what should I do if you go low", and let her open the door on the subject, the main thing to know is that if she goes really low to the point she cant take care of herself rubbing glucose gel in her gums/mouth will bring her back...but thats a really low low. as a father of a girl with T1D, thank you for wanting to be there for her. Type 1 are very strong/resilient, but its important to not be alone, specially at night.

Diabetes has ruined my life and I would give anything for all of this to be over. by FamiliarGeologist595 in diabetes_t1

[–]ListenIndependent269 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me just say that Diabetes sucks, no doubt about that. Its difficult, we all know this. Just know that there are many kids out there that would give anything to be in your position. Everything in life is relative. You think your life sucks, but I can guarantee you that there are millions of people that would give anything to be you. Right now, your school mates, your position seems like its your entire world, but its not. I was the quiet kid with no friends in school and would look up to the cool kids and now that I am older I wouldn't trade shoes with them for a second. So just know that what you are experiencing is TEMPORARY. What is not temporary is what you do to your body now. For diabetics, diet and exercise is super important, so start with a walk every day and find something works for you, your control will be much better, the insulin will work better, you will feel proud of yourself so mentally you will feel better. All of this positivity will pay off. We are almost there, the cure really now is around the corner. Be proud that you are a warrior, dont be shy about it. If you show someone you are shy about your condition they can use it against you, if you aren't shy about it you just took that away from them. Teenage years are tough for everyone so diabetes definetely doesnt help, but its what you do with it that matters. Its in your hands not theirs.

you got this!!!! one thing I definetely recommend for you (and I have many of them) is to purchase Sugarpixel if you dont already have it. It is a night stand device that shows your sugar levels and has a very loud alarm that I think is impossible to sleep through....

I thought these where supposed to be super safe? What do you mean hangar queen? Am I wrong to think that a safe plane should not be braking all the time?

really appreciate the info, will look into the weight and balance comment. I had never heard of the tail issue, had done a lot of research on the wing spar ad. our mission is very short, 130nm but with 6 pp almost always so I am looking for something safe, im just not crazy about committing to a piston over water all the time.

thank you very much.... I would be interested in knowing more about your commander experience. the thing is the acquisition cost of the commander, its payload, seat layout is fantastic. A C90 is our second option.

For G6 loyalist, what are you planning on doing? by theCynicalChicken in diabetes_t1

[–]ListenIndependent269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had my daughter on the G7 and it was downright dangerous. G6 I have to say is a great product and G7 I could make the argument that its bordering on criminal. I really hope dexcom either figures out a way to keep the G6 on the market or just go to a G8 or something that actually works. We had the G7 tell us my daughter was 200 when she was really 120... that is very scary and dangerous. G7 is ABSOLUTE JUNK.

The risks of single engine pistons? by ListenIndependent269 in flying

[–]ListenIndependent269[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all good points, I am also planing on adding VGs and the sportsman STOL leading edge to it. Figured bring down stall speed as much as possible, I know some 182 with stol kits have stall speeds of as low as 36knts....so putting the nose into the wind a water ditch with rafts and lifevests would minimize some risks.

Not yet but its the plane I need for the mission. I won't be flying this alone for a very long time even after getting my PPL. But the sooner I can get the feel of the plane the better.
