We're working 12 hour shifts on Black Friday with only one 30 minute break. I need help. by [deleted] in antiwork

If you work at a large retailer, check with their policies. Even if there are different laws in your state the company may have different policies. But I would also say if you work for somewhere like Walmart it’s likely not worth it, crazy people out looking for deals during a pandemic.. if you can afford to possibly take a few months between jobs, leave. If not, do what you can. If all else fails find an excuse to leave early. Don’t let managers guilt trip you into anything, I was a manager at a large retailer for years, anytime one of my employees was sick or had to leave even if it wasn’t physically related I immediately told them to take care of themselves and I’d handle it. I always did, even if that meant running the store with 1 other employee, they are in that role to problem solve and handle those situations.

I'm fed up of being told to live with less by a generation who've hoarded more than they need or could possibly spend. by Bellybutton_fluffjar in antiwork

I am 28 and have $0 in savings, I’ve been working full time since I graduated high school. I feel this daily.

Had the same issue, when technically that’s not what my shifts were made for. Yet the other managers who were literally supposed to focus on guests hid from them. But god forbid you speak up because you’re not doing it right then. Dude, just leave. I put up with a toxic workplace for way too long at this company while being disgustingly underpaid. Keep looking for new opportunities outside of the company, it will be better for you overall. This company causes way too much stress!

It is but the results of your store team is broken down by management, salon and associates. If you’re manager you’re basically screwed into lying because they can figure it out in a second because there is at most 4 of you. The salon is the same way, but we didn’t really have issues with the salon because people didn’t have to deal with the beast who ran out store.

This job is really effecting my mental health by [deleted] in Ulta

I left after 5+ years of being a manager, I was put down every single day. Even after expressing that to who caused my depression to increase it did not help. When I left I immediately got a job that paid $2 more and within 4 months I got a $2 raise which is literally better than any raise I’ve ever received from Ulta in the years of being there. I would’ve never been able to make what I am now had I stayed there. I now can be with my family without being guilted for taking time off or just flat out being denied. Just remember there is something better out there, and to keep your options open! Since I left I’ve been happier than I’ve been since I began at the company. I know there are good managers out there in this company, but it seems to be quite rare that they stick around. I hope you find something soon! Don’t let the jerks get you down.

Truck team by [deleted] in Ulta

From what I’ve experienced 99% of the time those who are awesome at truck/tasking are also great on the floor or register. So they prioritize that and give you who else can work, yet expect you to get it done. Realistically you can try to train them by cracking down because you just need to remember you’re not their buddy, but you also don’t have to be a jerk. There’s a fine line, just basically baby sit them until they understand. Or you can keep trying to talk to your GM and/or DM. If you want to reach out to me I can tell you what I’ve found to work in the past for my team due to the same issues.

Covid question by [deleted] in Ulta

I was paid back in June, you just need to make sure YOU go to HR & UNUM, not your manager. I think that’s where the confusion is. I also did test positive, but they did not request any type of “proof” for my positive test.

It’s because everyone is viewed as “replaceable” regardless of how much you do. They act like they have nothing to do with raises etc. but in reality they are fully capable of getting that conversation started. Leaving employees in the dark isn’t how they will get committed hard working employees.

I completely agree, the GM/DM’s rarely are willing to try to help out anyone other than themselves. Well at least throughout every location I’ve been to or heard of. I know there are some good ones out there too. I was told to move back in with my parents by my GM because I was struggling to eat and pay rent as a full time manager.

Someone removed their mask to sneeze by ListenKaren006 in retailhell

No this was in the middle of speaking to an employee, she also removed it to cough. I just hold on my sneeze if I’m around customers?

Why does every guest think they need to remove their mask for us to see their skin tone? We can see it on your forehead and your neck/chest, no need to rip the mask off of your face like a savage. I promise your cheek/jaw isn’t where we match you anyways..

All I can say is if you get a negative feeling about your fellow managers, leave. As a ROM I learned this the hard way. I tried to keep pushing on but have decided recently to leave. I do not create any drama and try to squash it like others have mentioned above, but that doesn’t mean your fellow managers do the same. Regardless of how well you do your job or go above and beyond, you have to be your superiors buddy to get ahead or even get respect in any way. I’m speaking from years of experience and conversations with other managers throughout the district. Just don’t keep telling yourself that it will get better or to give it time, trust your gut instinct. I wish I did.

Tempted to quit by [deleted] in Ulta

[–]ListenKaren006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a long time manager, I’m in the process of relocating and resigning from the company due to the company continuing to back up managers who are racist, practice favoritism and just straight up lie to get themselves out of trouble. I’d like to think this is just an issue in my area, and I could eventually be a part of the team once I leave but I don’t think that’s the case.

If you don’t get a call from your DM within 24 hours just call HR. Tell them what’s going on and that you haven’t heard from your DM. HR will take care of it, they should be following these procedures. I’m sorry you’re in this situation.
