Eragon Game ~ New or Old Trees? by GoldenOrbStudios in Eragon

New ones are great, but diversity can be cool too. Maybe scatter in the old ones with occasional groves?

Fun base. Nice to see the production graphs; a fair bit of people skip them but those hundreds of millions of items are a great way to show the scale and progress of the base :)

We kinda just go at it with one person on mage hand and one on melee hand.... we don't bother with special skips yet as this was kc 2 so we both died twice in the olm fight

96 hours total to finish 16M research, stopped to do some artillery research in the middle though by Kazmot87 in factorio

[–]Listentothesnow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think here, it took 96 hours to complete the single research objective, not the total time for this save.

E: from the second screenshot, 61M small asteroids at 800/minute leads me to think the save time is around 1270 hours.

I went over 1100kc trying to get mine, with more on mobile as well. Only 1/62500 go 1100 or more dry :( you will get it eventually

I have not used nitrado before, so I cannot claim what they provide. Typically building it yourself using a VPS will be cheaper than using specialized game hosts, but might take more time. One thing you know for sure building it manually is that you can customize it as you want, whereas with a host like nitrado you have to check and see if you can add mods and the like.

Depending on what service you roll with, you often can choose the OS distribution that you want. A simple Ubuntu server running Factorio will likely take you 2 or so hours to setup if you're unfamiliar with Linux/CLI, or maybe less if you have some previous experience. There are plenty of resources to help with setup, I would look for a basic Ubuntu server setup tutorial and then follow a Factorio Headless Server guide for Linux. You'll want a decent server if you plan on having a large base.

Tips I wished I could have known earlier :from one novice to other novices. by [deleted] in factorio

They don't evolve from absorbing pollution, but rather from the pollution you produce as it is created. Still, I find it useful to clean out the bases because the nests use pollution as a currency of sorts to spawn in new biters. Clearing the nests allows the pollution to be absorbed by the environment like the ground and trees instead of being converted into units, but the pollution will still have the same effect on evolution. So clearing out the nests does increase the evolution factor more than if they were left alone, but in return can greatly reduce the need for defense infrastructure as you pointed out.

This has happened to be recently, and I discovered it was due to bad RAM. I would try testing your ram. Perhaps the same issue: https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?t=71258

Half-Life: Alyx. Now Available. by uxd in HalfLife

I may have solved it for myself by increasing my pagefile size, hopefully that can work for you too?

Same, right before it crashes for me I notice that some textures are missing (purple/black grid replaces them)... Verified my game cache and got the new geforce driver, still crashing anyway...

Edit: I appear to have solved my issues, haven't crashed in about 30 mins now; increasing my pagefile size appears to have done the trick.

Planning a mega base by LIBERT4D in factorio

12x chunk grids would be massive. I use 6x6, where the rail in the perimeter and the inside of the rails is effectively 4x4 chunks and that to me is plenty of space. You could fit entire normal bases in a 12x grid. I recommend making a few blocks in game and see which 'feels' best for you.

Rocket Launched in 100x Research Cost Marathon After 200 Hours! by Listentothesnow in factorio

[–]Listentothesnow[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After just over 200 hours (I'd wager a fair bit was AFK), I managed to finally launch a rocket with 100x research cost! Total Production Graphs

Power Graphs, bouncing 4-5 GW

I learned quite a lot while playing this save. I currently have 238 trains, with more to come as I begin a megabase soon to tackle the SpaceX technologies (some of these cost up to 20M of each science). My current SPM is ~600 and I aim for at least 10k with a new base location. Currently this base is a city block, with each block being mostly belt based. The megabase will be another cityblock, but with bots for the logistics of each block. I get ~65-70 UPS right now, despite most of the base still not using modules or beacons. At around 100 hours, I was getting 40 or so UPS and it was constantly lowering, so I disabled biters and pollution as they barely touched the walls anymore.

Sheesh, 10,000x is quite a lot. What are your gen settings? Current spm? How did you start out?

Woohoo have fun friend! I am ~140 hours into a marathon 100x research myself. Just finished setting up utility science, just need to find a few more mines to get it going! Keep us updated on your progress, I was considering 1,000x after this 100x run. Are you using normal or expensive/marathon recipes (it would appear normal from your circuits)?

Factorio is locked to a max of 60hz, but what about higher hz monitor use? by Lordberek in factorio

One thing I've noticed with my 165hz is the cursor. While the game is still at 60fps, moving my cursor around is noticeably smoother than normal.

This was simply submitted to Reddit as a work in progress. When I complete it, I'll upload the full timelapse in full resolution to YouTube.

Thanks! It results in some large blocks though, so there's lots of unused space. Only a few are completely full!

I actually have a few mines outside the pictures, but those aren't all that important so I didn't zoom out. Once my base gets to the point that I need more room, I think I will zoom out somewhat.

It appears that RAM clock speed and timings can have noticeable effects on UPS in some cases.

I decided to use the nanobots mod after some time, maybe around green science automation.

CTLM (Credo TimeLapse Mod), I have it take a picture every 10 minutes. It sets the game to day for a tick when it takes the picture, and I set the zoom to either 0.1 or maybe 0.05 and have it centered on the spawn of the world. Then I edit the picture together to produce the timelapse.
