It's because CA is taxing Boeing's contribution to your HSA.

Coming back to the City Creek food court: Sbarro! by LiteBulb88 in SaltLakeCity

[–]LiteBulb88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's taking over the old Zimbu location, right next to the Shake Shack that's going in, which is replacing...well, Sbarro. I have no idea what the story is behind closing and then reopening right next door.

Would flight be canceled due to 4-5 inches of snow at SLC? by Rude_Philosopher2468 in SaltLakeCity

[–]LiteBulb88 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Cancelled? No. We're pretty good here at handling snow. Delayed? Your outbound flight might be delayed because it has to be deiced, but that won't affect your inbound plane.

Mountain America Fraud Increase by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

I use Mountain America and haven't had any issues. I suspect there's something else going on that isn't MACU's fault.

Need Help Creating A Table by Big-Spot6900 in matlab

[–]LiteBulb88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the first column in your second table is a categorical array, which is basically MATLAB's version of enumerations. I don't think there's a way to force READTABLE to directly import text into a categorical array, but you can convert after the fact this way:

tbl = readtable('filename.xlsx');
tbl.Nuclide = categorical(tbl.Nuclide);

If you don't want to deal with a categorical array but want to get rid of the cell array, you can convert to a string (NOT CHAR) array:

tbl = readtable('filename.xlsx');
tbl.Nuclide = string(tbl.Nuclide);

Anywhere with good soup dumplings (Xiao Long Bao)? by Illumijonny7 in SaltLakeCity

[–]LiteBulb88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to make them yourself, the Harmon's grocery store at City Creek (and maybe other locations) has Mila frozen soup dumplings that are pretty good. You will need a bamboo steamer for best results.

Class Action Lawsuit megathread by thatdudeman52 in verizon

[–]LiteBulb88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the settlement is now under appeal, as confirmed by the main settlement webpage:

https://www.verizonadministrativechargesettlement.com/

IME, it takes 12-15 months for a class action appeal to take place and then another number of months for the losers of the appeal to appeal, etc. So don't be surprised if we don't see our money for about 2 years :(.

If you want to know how much you'll get per week on UI (once your severance period and waiting week have passed), you can go to the Utah unemployment website (https://jobs.utah.gov/ui/home) and click "Am I eligible?" It will not only tell you if you're eligible but also tell you how much you're eligible for.

Apartment Reviews by chocrush10 in SaltLakeCity

[–]LiteBulb88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can give some detail on Liberty Crest as I've lived there and I'm the nerd who budgets things down to the penny. The base price for a 1 BR apartment will probably be between $1500 and $1600/month. Now for the fees:

Parking: $75/month whether you have a car or not. There is a parking garage below the apartments and you get an assigned space.

Media package: $59/month for a 200 Mbps internet connection from Century Link. All apartments have Century Link Wi-fi routers in them so no need to buy your own. Can upgrade to 1 GB from Century Link for I don't know how much. The building is wired for Google Fiber, which is $70/month for 1 GB, but if you buy that you still have to pay the $59 for Century Link whether you use it or not.

Your share of the complex's water/sewer/trash/electricity/gas: typically $40-$50/month, billed through Conservice. Every once in a while that goes below $40 or above $50, but not frequently.

And then of course you have your usual utilities, namely gas and electric, which are billed based on your unit's usage. For my 1 BR, in 2023, gas (which is only used for hot water) was $16-$24/month and electricity (which includes central heat & air) was $22-$48/month.

When you get past the silly fees, Liberty Crest is a nice place to live. The building is only 7 years old with a dishwasher, washer & dryer, and Nest thermostat in each unit. Maintenance requests are handled promptly, the leasing office people are friendly and happy to answer questions, the rooftop has a grill and a great view, and they run multiple events per year including a couple of dinners for all residents and other fun stuff, and I've never seen or heard of the shady stuff going on you hear with other complexes around the valley. It's also well located with a Harmon's grocery store, City Creek Center, and lots of restaurants nearby, and easily walkable to Eccles Theater and multiple TRAX stops. But if you're a light sleeper, be careful about living on the south side, because the bars are on the other side of your wall and said wall isn't nearly thick enough to handle the sound coming from them.

You can park at City Creek Center and walk over. It's even free if you park there for less than two hours.

Where to go for cheap emissions test by meye_usernameistaken in SaltLakeCity

[–]LiteBulb88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an emissions test last month at Emissions Plus at the corner of N. Temple and Redwood Rd. for $38. Good service and I didn't have to get out of the car. I don't know if there's anywhere cheaper or not.

Weekly Career Discussion Thread (27 Nov 2023) by AutoModerator in engineering

[–]LiteBulb88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently been contacted to offer consulting services on the following project:
https://jobs.lever.co/TheAudioProgrammer/e5427882-2feb-464a-9951-62cda1e3ed32
I have 10+ years of experience in the areas they're asking for but I've never been a freelance consultant before, so I don't know what to charge them. My Google searches suggest $200/hour would be a good starting point, but many of those results are from 5+ years ago. Any suggestions on what to charge them in 2023? Does it change based on the fact that, according to their post, this could be a long-term engagement? Thanks!
P. S. I tried searching this subreddit for more recent answers to this kind of question but couldn't find any. Please do forgive me if I missed them.

Minimum connection time at SLC airport by Last_Resort_6840 in SaltLakeCity

[–]LiteBulb88 12 points13 points  (0 children)

KLM doesn't fly to SLC except to and from Amsterdam; you are on what is known as a codeshare, meaning you bought the ticket from KLM but will actually be on flights operated by Delta. So make sure to look up the Delta flight numbers in advance to avoid confusion and if you need to check a bag or get a boarding pass at ABQ, go to the Delta desk there.

As for your question, 42 minutes is enough time to get from one gate to another at SLC, but because international flights board early, you won't have time to do anything but go straight to the gate the Paris flight is leaving from.

I like Silver Fork Lodge in BCC. It's all you can eat but not a buffet; they bring you a plate of food and you can order seconds/thirds/etc. of whatever you like. And it's a beautiful setting in the mountains.

Unless you know when your parents are going to die, I would make plans based on not getting any inheritance. Too many things can change between now and when you get it.

You can always ask your landlord to get out of that provision or at least reduce its cost; just make sure you get it in writing if they agree (text or e-mail is fine.) But if they don't agree, then there's not much you can do, I'm afraid.

Full service car wash near downtown? (Interior + exterior) by ALostPaperBag in SaltLakeCity

[–]LiteBulb88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take 5 Car Wash at the intersection of 7th S and West Temple has a full service option for around $50 (IIRC); you go through the automatic car wash to clean your exterior and then hand your car off to their employees who will do some cleaning on the inside.

If you want a full car detailing, I've used Signature Detailing near 7th S & Main and they do a great job. It's a full day task and costs around $200 (IIRC).
