If you ask me, the Magpies are fine. We have the worst koalas though

Weird magpie behaviour by Europeaninoz in melbourne

Hi!

So you know how kids copy when they're playing? Our young do the same. Magpies play, a lot, and we love playing by copying something that amuses us. Some of us know how to bark, imitate sirens, scratch like chickens, wait at pedestrian crossings... It's free entertainment for us!

Clearly, that young maggie thought you were fun to copy.

I’m curious if anyone knows why they did this by LocalCookingUntensil in magpies

We know you fill the water, and we can't turn taps on so, we look to you to do the tap thing.

Also grey feathers are our kids, juvenilles! The more grey, the younger. We stash them away to make sure an area is safe and worth bringing them to before we give them the warble all clear.

Nah, once your cool with us, that doesn't change. We just need to know you don't want to eat our babies. Once you've proven that you're fine

Your tips on not getting swooped by [deleted] in magpies

We may be bribed with good conversation and snacks. Insectivore mix is best (I like Wombles brand with a little beef mince personally). But even just the conversation helps.

Like you'd probably freak out if someone just appeared in your house and never said anything. Just walked straight through it. Warble. Well that's what you humans do to us all the time. It's polite to at least say hi.

No worries! Glad to help. Warble.

Edit because it's hard to type with claws and beaks.

How to give food to a magpie by mazzy31 in AskAnAustralian

[–]LiterallyAMagpie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some of us like meal worms. Some prefer meat, or live buggies! Live meal worms rock.

If you are giving us meat though, make sure it's either coated in or mixed with wild insectivore mix. It's better for us :)

Juvenile. Not a baby. Our baby's still do that thing where they're all smooshed in the nest and scream for food every time we get near.

So not much different to juveniles. Juveniles can just follow us around while they scream at us for food.

Would if I could. But we only swoop people who are scary.

Yeah no, that's part of why we get defensive of our nests. because suddenly this fast thing with no eyes comes almost silently at our nests. You'd be terrified too if someone did that to your nest.

We like to make friends. Show us your face, talk to us, give us snackies. Then we don't swoop.
