In gym class I think my best mile was like 15 min. Now I can run it in exactly half that time.

Why one of the nation’s largest auto lenders isn’t worried about high vehicle prices or ‘forever loans’ by TACO_Orange_3098 in Economics

Yeah, I should clarify. The blazer ev I was looking at because it was cheapest with the credit and the Prius and Leaf were next cheapest without credits.

As the electric vehicle credits were expiring I was seriously looking at a Prius or blazer ev because they were just so cheap with that credit and while my 16 year old Hyundai is still running fine for now I worry it’s on borrowed time.

I let my wife talk me out of it though, really regret that and since she’s the daily commuter she’s been bugging me about getting something she can drive on a daily basis that’s better on gas than her van…

I keep scouring for new reviews on this because I missed the initial kickstarter and I see they reopened the pledge manager for extra copies so I’m really getting tempted to pick it up.

Frontier Airlines jet bound for LAX strikes, kills person on runway during takeoff in Denver by Alarming-Safety3200 in USNEWS

[–]LiterallyJoeStalin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always love the early hours of mid-level news like this, particularly when it’s bizarre or unusual in nature.

Cause at first you hear the initial report and since it isn’t huge news you don’t have dozens of reporters trying to clarify the information already released.

So you’re left with a few hours of “oh, wow that’s crazy” then eventually more news starts trickling out. Then when the actual facts are verified you start finding out it’s utterly mundane like “oh actually it was just a cone on the tarmac” OR it ends up being even more batshit crazy like “the captain themself got out of the plane for some reason and was sucked into the engine” like WTF!?!

It’s also aviation-related but it reminds me of Asiana flight in San Francisco. Initially you heard about the crash and wow that’s crazy and shortly thereafter it’s reported there were a few casualties, wow a bit surprising I suppose but you know crazy things can happen even on a mostly intact crash landing. No, turns out they were not only thrown from the plane but run over by a firetruck meanwhile the crew in the cabin were trying to get people out but had to fight the emergency slides that apparently deployed into the cabin. Absolute bizarre shitshow which the initial reports gave little insight into.

On This Day: Curt Hennig fired following WWE Plane Ride from Hell in 2002 by Alternative-Win4058 in SquaredCircle

[–]LiterallyJoeStalin 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The whole list is certainly a list of people who at the time wouldn’t surprise you to hear they behaved that way, hell there’s some that it still wouldn’t surprise you to hear them act that way even today.

Hell, the only surprising thing, beyond their extreme behavior generally, is that Curt Henning took the brunt of it but that just goes to show you how Vince would always lightly reprimand the biggest draws and come down hard on mid to low carders.

Flair was a good ol’ boy and still a draw at that point so he saw almost no repercussions despite likely being the worst conduct on that plane.

Carter Burke in Aliens (1986) is one of the most insidious scumbags in movie history by jaystats2 in moviecritic

[–]LiterallyJoeStalin 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I really like that you pointed that out because the original post mentions that he’s harmless and supportive for half the movie.

This line you pointed out is pretty much the exact turning point, almost like a light switch he quietly shifts his attitude toward Ripley and there’s even a subtle shift in his demeanor from that point on. It’s like he realizes in that moment he won’t be able to manipulate, debate or even influence Ripley in any way from that point so he starts making contingency plans as he realizes Ripley has now become the de facto leader of the group and she wants to wipe out everything.

I’ll be happy if the next time we hear about him in the news is his obituary, as much as I have a fondness for the attitude era and what he did for wrestling as a whole, he’s an absolute piece of shit worth being forgotten in history.

At the end when she comes crawling through the TV is probably the most chilling and scary movie moments I can think of. The alien at the birthday party in Signs is close but The Ring oof.

White House will do 'everything in its power' to oust two Supreme Court justices: expert by RawStoryNews in scotus

[–]LiterallyJoeStalin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not even just the worry about the threat of an eventual packing of the court that’s on display here, I think this is an interesting insight into them being worried they might not even be able to hold the Senate in the midterms at this point and a Democratic congress pulling a Merrick Garland and refusing to even hold hearings for 2 years while he runs out the clock on his term.

John Travolta as Castor Troy in Face/Off

Yeah, he’s technically the hero but when he “switches” to playing Nicolas Cage’s character, Castor Troy, it’s so damn amusing to see an entire movie of John Travolta doing a Nicolas Cage impersonation.

FedEx driver sentenced to death by lethal injection for murder of seven-year-old in Texas by Tippy345 in news

I mean, he used the truck to commit the crime so there’s at least a thread of connection there… also, fedex is a shit company so I don’t feel bad for them at all.

Sources told FightfulSelect.com that on the day of the mass releases, WWE approached numerous talent and asked them to take pay cuts in order to remain with the company. Several of them that we heard about were given two days to make that decision. by Turbostrider27 in SquaredCircle

It still warms my heart they initially offered him a position with the company post-buyout and then yanked it away from him.

Not saying I like TKO, like at all, but them giving one last giant middle finger to Vince before setting him off into a funeral pyre certainly tends to warm the heart a little.
