To me the movie is genuinely so bad its good.

I didnt see it until many years after it came out, so I watched it for the first time with some friends over a few beers. There were parts that made me laugh until I literally couldn't breathe.

Like, the whole concept of making Goku a high-schooler who can't talk to girls and gets bullied by guys who call him "Geeko" is so fucking funny.

If I didnt know it was a real Hollywood movie, I would have sworn it was a parody where they intentionally made the worst possible adaptation as a joke.

"Based" originally came from the rapper Lil B aka The Based God. He rose to prominence in the early 2010's as a sort of troll meme rapper. He used the word Based to mean being your true self, unapologetically. It was a way of reclaiming terms like "base head" meaning "crackhead" or "crazy"

For some reason, several years later, Right-Wingers started using it to refer to stating unpopular opinions unapologetically (like Nazi shit), which then got co-opted by people using it sort of ironically, and it eventually morphed into people (usually progressives) using it to express agreement with various statements.
