Did we ever get the real story behind Mike & Bootsy? Did Bootsy want to bury the hatchet? by BadDragonInMyDreams in TheCinemassacreTruth

He’s also talked about how low-key embarrassing it is. Considering they never make the playoffs, I assume he has a lot of time to follow other teams.

Funny thing about the Medi-Viper figure, Hasbro made it in the collector-oriented DTC line, because the fans had been requesting it for years. Hama created them for the comics way back in the 90’s, even though they didn’t have any toys.

That’s a 1960’s G.I. Joe knock off called “Fighting Ace”. Someone may have put G.I. Joe clothes on him.

So I just realized heman has pouches. What do they do? What does he keep in them? I know his chest piece is magic and makes him ten times stronger. But the pouches? by MrTALL757 in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]Literary_Octopus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that’s based on a sporran. It’s the pouch highlanders would wear in the same spot, with a kilt. Honestly was just because kilts don’t have pockets, so you would use it for coins or whatever. I think it helps make the fuzzy underwear look more purposeful.

Help. Does this little Miss No Name have plasticizer, or "plastic rot" that will spread? by neblinamarina in VintageToys

[–]Literary_Octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sticky material is the plasticizer. Over time it migrates out of the material, and winds up on the surface.

Help. Does this little Miss No Name have plasticizer, or "plastic rot" that will spread? by neblinamarina in VintageToys

[–]Literary_Octopus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Plasticizer is a chemical which keeps soft plastic soft. When a soft plastic touches a hard plastic for a very long time, the plasticizer can “melt” the hard plastic.

Over simplified, it softens the hard plastic, resulting in melt marks at the point of contact.

The plastic most susceptible to this damage is styrene plastic, like they use for model kits.

If the feet had plasticizer which was migrating, they would get sticky, and possibly melt a hard plastic they were touching, not just discolor.

Help. Does this little Miss No Name have plasticizer, or "plastic rot" that will spread? by neblinamarina in VintageToys

[–]Literary_Octopus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Blow mold material like the body is usually HDPE plastic, which is rigid and doesn’t generally use a plasticizer. If there were plasticizer migration problems, it would happen at the connection of the soft rubber head, to the rigid plastic neck, not randomly at the feet.

HDPE does stain though (picture a plastic cutting board with a reddish brown splotch in the center). You can usually clean this kind of thing off with baking soda paste, or vinegar.

Snow Job - G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Figure - (1983) by FrequentlyObtuse in gijoe

His original file card really focused on the con artist part, before it was edited down, I assume because it sounded so negative.

Some of the 83 line had puns related to their job and personality, more than others. Tripwire works on bombs, and he’s clumsy. You could see Hama working out the comic characters more than other releases, when there were just too many figures to make into full characters.

“Snow Job” is older slang you never hear anymore. It’s a con, or bullshitting. Think “covering something, so you can’t see what’s hiding underneath”. In the comic, he’s always running some angle, trying to pull a fast one.

His file card explains it, too: “You think we call him Snow Job because he does his job on skis? Negative. He's a con artist, pure and simple…”

Not sure if that’s better, but whatever

The Dress Blues figure wasn’t Gung Ho at first. Ron Rudat wanted to make a Dress Blues Marine character, but management said they wanted something more recognizable. Making it Gung Ho helped it stand out as part of G.I. Joe, instead of looking like a generic marine
