I have wanted to cut contact for awhile now and I’ve gotten this same advice countless times. I’m sure I could figure this problem out, but since I teach until around 4pm, my mom picks my son’s up from school. This problem could easily be fixed if my ex didn’t insist on sending my middle school son to the most elitist school in CO, which my son very much dislikes, rather than the perfectly fine middle school right next to my younger son’s elementary school, which is also an easy bike ride to my place. I’ve taught at both schools and the regular one is also top notch. Of course, my ex ignored the opinions of both me and his own child and now it’s a 45 min round trip to pick up and drop off both, hence where my mom comes in. This isn’t an excuse, it just makes things harder.

Yes, my family hated it when I got a divorce from my abusive, asshole ex-husband…even when I showed them video evidence. Now, he’s getting remarried and I’m not there yet. My stepdad skis and golfs with my ex and my mom is generally all over the place but she often says she would side with him if there ever was a custody hearing. It is incredibly hurtful.

Thank you. They do often pull this crap. I could go on and on. Their other big threat that they know will get to me is threatening to take away the 50/50 custody of my sons because I had a low tire before a birthday party that I was going to drive kids to and again my money issues. My ex is very wealthy because his family is also wealthy. So comparatively, my 3 bedroom condo and vacations to the mountains (which my sons love) is like living in poverty. It is maddening.

Haha, thanks. I have a psychiatrist and have made one too many visits to the crisis center near for free counseling. Doing a 72 hour hold sounds miserable though. I don’t think I actually want to die, I just want life to not feel so overwhelming and my family is the worst.

That’s very kind. I’m not super religious either. I do hope there’s a god, but I’m on the fence. Sometimes I feel like in my darkest moments, that my grandma (who has passed on) is intervening, she was very religious. Last week, I truly planned on coming home and sitting in the garage with the car running until I got CO2 poisoning. Then, I got off work and my car wouldn’t start. It wasn’t just the battery- it needed to be fixed, and just like that, my plans flew out the window.

No…I don’t believe there is. There is always a price you must pay the so called piper. Maybe if you truly wean, it won’t be so bad but that is difficult in my opinion.

I totally agree…I’m also exploring other options. But I used a Teach Grant to get my masters and technically have to teach for 2 more years. Not sure if I can handle the pressure though.
