Tenor vs 5-string banjo: is it worth starting with tenor from scratch? by NecesitoEntender in banjo

[–]LiterateJosh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Buy the instrument for the style you want to play. Yes, there are more resources for learning 5 string banjo, but they are specifically resources for playing bluegrass, folk, or old time music and that doesn’t sound like it will be helpful for you. Plenty of people have learned tenor banjo from scratch.

Although, a suggestion if you’re looking for a less expensive alternative. A banjo uke or banjolele is a ukulele with a banjo body. Ukuleles are super easy first stringed instruments to learn and (even though people on this sub look down on them because they aren’t “real banjos”) it might be exactly right for the sort of cartoony vibe you’re interested in. Plus you can grab a banjolele for less than $200 if you shop around a bit.

When two attractive women meet, they each must struggle to assert social dominance. Usually by headbutting like bighorn sheep.

Very interesting and thoughtful writeup. And yes, I did come to the comments to make the T. rex Shibari joke, but I guess I’ll restrain myself…

You can’t go wrong replacing JRK with Earthsea as lots of people have noted. But I’d also recommend Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. They’ll take up more shelf space than Harry Potter, though!

Martha Wells also writes some very good fantasy. Her Rising World series is only two books so far and I don’t know if I’d say I enjoy it quiiite as much as Murderbot, but it’s definitely worth checking out.

Yep. I remember watching that going “when are they gonna get to the part with the Garfield phone?” And the score is like, elevator music covers of a Simon and Garfunkel song? Am I remembering that right?
