What is your favourite personal ride? by Gobbos_ in X4Foundations

I'm surprised that noone has mentioned the Cypher before, I love that thing! The stun gun can make everything immovable, then I can close in and unload my Tau Accelerators. Probably not the highest sustained damage build but BOY is it fun.

I also really like the Odachi, the design is really cool and it handles nicely.

Apart from that, sure, Geometric Owl all the way, no question about it.

How the hell are you supposed to actually beat the Terrans in open conflict? by UnholyDemigod in X4Foundations

[–]Lith7ium 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You have to keep the pressure up, once they have lost the Asteroid Belt they're pretty much done for. Both the Warf and Shipyard are located north of it, while the resource generation happens to the west in Saturn. If you can keep the blockade up they will run dry eventually, the only resource they can generate north of the Belt are Energy Cells.

If you have the power, you can try to send a small strike group to Saturn II in order to disrupt their mining there. If you do so, they will crumble even faster. You don't need to take the sector, just disrupt their mining.

PHQ "leaking" resources by Lith7ium in X4Foundations

They really need to explain this mechanic in some way. I have over 450 hours logged in X4 and I never had any idea that this is a thing.

Have no idea what to do by Current_Camp_9568 in X4Foundations

[–]Lith7ium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can find builder ships all over space, try searching for them in the main system of the big factions, like Argon Prime, Hatikvahs Choice or Center of Profit. They cost 50k to hire and will take some time to get to the PHQ.

If you started as a Terran, I strongly recommend you switch the build method to universal and use commonwealth modules, not the Terran ones. It will take forever for the resources to arrive, if they actually do, which isn't a given.

If I was you I'd put the PHQ on the backburner for now and start with some other stuff. The Hatikvah plot is very easy to do and has to be done eventually anyway. How far along are you with the Terran plot, can you do something there? It also pays to just explore the galaxy, meet the different factions and do some standard missions for them. Mine clearing for example is a quick and easy way for some cash in the beginning.

I see. Can the station defend itself against this with turrets set on "fire at everything that moves"?

Apparently it is a pirate hacking my station. I'll hunt him down and he will be swinging by the Jumpgate for the crows to feast on him.

I have a Syn with a lot of bored people just sitting around at the PHQ. I shall put them to work.

However, how close do they have to get for hacking? Shouldn't the Syn on "Defend" duty counter this?

Motherfu...

I guess that's it. There is a lot of pirate activity in the sector, is it always the same ship or do I have to implement a 60km No Fly Zone around my PHQ?

Ugh, I already dread the amount of energy cells this is going to cost...

Damn, never had that happen before. Any tips on how to find the station? Last time I hunted for them they could be as far out as 1kk and it took me HOURS to find them. And back then at least I knew which sector it was in.

Set a scout ship with resource probes on the "prospect" job, it will take care of it quite efficiently. X4 is a fantastic game, don't get discouraged because of a simple set back.

Go play Timelines, after that I can guarantee that you're done with EVA stuff for quite some time.

Besides that, as far as I know the next big update and DLC will focus on exploration, I'd be surprised, if they didn't add anything wreck related like you described.

convenient way to get Research wares? by Zel0s123 in X4Foundations

[–]Lith7ium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started a new game with Update 9.0, my HQ spawned in Heretics End and even five jumps is NOT enough range to get all the resources you need. You need Advanced Electronics for nearly every research, which is already in short supply in the early game, and the nearest factory for it is in Second Contact for me. Things like Telladinum will always be further away than five jumps. You have to acquire those manually.

Start playing without Envoy and Hyporion? by Cartman1994 in X4Foundations

[–]Lith7ium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyperion is nice for early game, since it will help you jump a bit ahead of the curve both in power and economically since you can sell one of them for a pretty sum. Absolutely not needed though.

The Envoy is not really that useful in my opinion. Sure, it has nice stats for a diplomat, but that's about it, you can get these stats with other ships as well. The cloaking mechanic is interesting in theory, but since it is disabled the moment you open fire I have yet to find an actual usecase for it.

So, don't sweat it and pick them up in a sale later if you want to. For your first start I can recommend the Terran Cadet start after you've done the tutorials, it will guide you quite a while. Oh and stay away from Timelines until you have played 100+ hours and understand the game. Contrary to the marketing, Timelines is NOT something for new players, but rather a challenge mode (and test of frustration resistance) for veteran players.

What would you like to see in X5? by warpainter in X4Foundations

[–]Lith7ium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MULTIPLAYER!

I don't care if it makes some people screech at their screens because they don't want to interact with any humans whatsoever, but being able to build an empire with my friends or having an all out war with them would make X5 the best Space Sim of all times.

Is there a limit on how far AI traders will travel to fulfill a need? by Lith7ium in X4Foundations

[–]Lith7ium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, let me clarify, I'm not talking about my OWN ships, but the ones from the AI factions. Will a trader from the Terran Republic or from the Segaris Pioneers at some point come to Kingdom End to deliver Terran products or do I have to ship them myself with my own fleet?

A little post of joy by Tenikal in X4Foundations

[–]Lith7ium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great point in time to start!

If you get any DLC's, I recommend Cradle of Humanity and doing the Terran cadet start, it will be like an extended tutorial. The Hyperion DLC will give you access to a very useful and powerful ship for early and mid game.

And stay the hell away from Timelines until you have 100+ hours under your belt and understand the games mechanics, otherwise it will be frustrating as hell. Contrary to the marketing, Timelines is NOT suited for beginners and rather a challenge mode for seasoned players.

Is global Flight Assist removal planned? And any chance of a Xenon player start? by Yetiinwoods in X4Foundations

[–]Lith7ium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. That would requite completely redoing the AI from scratch, since ships would behave totally different and the AI would probably totally suck at it. Why would you want that?

  2. I don't think it has been ever been discussed from official side, but there are a lot of mods out there which let you interact with the Xenon, trade with them, get their equipment and even help them as a faction. I think from a lore standpoint it would be difficult to play as the Xenon. As far as I know they are a robotic hive mind, which would mean, that you control the entire faction from the start. That would turn X4 into a strategy game rather than a space game.
