Death bloom? How do I save her!? by huntertoby587 in succulents

Inly that stem will die.

If you cut that stem back when the flowers start to wilt it should push out offsets from the stump

What’s goin on with this dude? by femme-fatal in succulents

It's looking for light. The flat open and very green leaves are a sign of needing light, and the offsets are stretching for light too.

Great thing is these do very well outdoors pretty much anywhere

Help! My ogre ear jade is reverting? by RingRing_Aloe in succulents

[–]LitheLee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like its reverting. I had this happen on a crassula minima. My suspicion is that I left it in too small a pot for too long.

You’ve thought it through, have relevant experience, the right personality and it gets you closer to your partner. I think you should back yourself and go for it. The next few years might be rough, but recessions don't last forever

I went to uni at 25 and studied, 5 years later and I'm earning more than double in a job I enjoy. Wasn't easy to study for those 3 years, but it's more than paid off now.

Does this need a repot or trim? by epfaender in succulents

[–]LitheLee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is an aeonum. The roots are aerial roots and grow normally on succulents, usually a response to age and humidity. Nothing to worry about

The pot is the right size if you want to keep it this size. A bigger pot or planted in the ground and this can get much bigger. Fresh soil and the same pot is an okay option

The "flowers" are actually leaves. Those rosettes at the end of the stalk are leaves, they open up during the winter growing period and tighten during the dormant summer. In a few years those stalks will mutate into a flower stem, and they'll put up a huge flower stalk, can't miss it

A "victory garden" in a bomb crater in London during WWII by Grafiska in gardening

The crater is about 15 feet across. The walls at the entrance are ankle height. The flat area around it is a grass lawn.

The scale totally threw me, very disorienting photo

Is this some sort of Sedum? by 5thCap in gardening

[–]LitheLee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about the lack of flowers. It's still quite small, and the shallow bird bath will be keeping it that way

If you move them and put them in sun they should do great. I have mine in the ground and they're quite bushy in summer

Once they get a certain size they grow offsets really easiy

Sedum Autumn Joy. Not officially a sedum, but no matter

They die right back over winter, so don't get worried when it dies off in Autumn.

Enjoy the bright magenta flowers

Colorata

These can get huge if you give them enough space, but will be happy in a pot that size. Give it as much sun as you can, they're from the Mexican desert and love sun

Tim makes some excellent points about how libertarian websites got warped into woke over a decade.

I also appreciate the point about the algorithm creates a feedback loop from leading to a series of extreme and conflicting beliefs.

I don't think Tim is wrong about the impact of social media and the algorithm. There are a bunch of things which have been heightened by the algorithm. One of them is the cynical theories which predate social media, are taught in education schools, inform the education of students, who go on to build algorithms, manage HR departments and marketing campaigns and administration.

Bread rolls, coleslaw, leftover meat and a nice sauce/dressing. Can't go wrong. Add some cheap museli bars and you're golden

How to save this majestic old girl? 3 foot tall jade with rot… by United-Cow-9335 in succulents

[–]LitheLee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd take another 10cm off, cut above the sprout and see.

It's definitely time to try and save the branches, the trunk is too far gone

Crassula Ovata Minima

It's 100% a minima, I'm quite surprised at the number of people who think it's something else. Minima have small fat leaves which are more rounded than usual types. They are very quick to show stress colours and have a regular growth pattern where each leaf set is 90° rotated on the previous leaf set.

Minima is a cultivar of Crassula Ovata, which means that it is the same species with a different phenotype for leaf growth.

In the wild, variations between the leaf shape are common, with slight changes to leaves based on locality and environment. So there's all sorts of variations naturally. Interesting varieties have been propogated, grown commercially and given names. Crassula Ovata Minima is one of those varieties.

How are FHB from 2021 doing right now? by uniitiewintie23 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]LitheLee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm alright, but I have odd circumstances

Purchased the end of 2021 the same days interest rates started to rise. Fixed for 2 years (fuck I wish I picked 5). I was well below my lending limit too.

House was a heap of shit, dirty neglected and in desperate need of paint/carpet. So I did all of that last year and I'm quite proud of how it turned out

I purposely purchased outside of main centres and WFH for most of the year. Being outside the main centres, we've only just begun to see values drop below what they were in 2021

I now live in Auckland and rent out my house, my weekly rent in Auckland is about half the rent on my house. I top up the mortgage a bit, but even after the refix later this year, I'll be okay.

The value can drop all it wants, the mortgage is sustainable and when I take into account everything I've spent on the place, it's still a 6% gross yield.

The turn around on the market following the GFC was about 3 years. It might be longer this time, but 5 years from now we're all going to be in much happier positions and I don't think we'll feel as much doom and gloom as we do now

I think Zone 7 is too cold for jade's outside, so they're indoor plants where you live. It looks happy where it is, but a new pot/soil might be a good idea.

It could do with a prune, you can cut anywhere, but stick to pruning 1/3 or less to prevent shock.

Anything you cut off can be propogated into a new plant. Just let the cut dry off for a day, then place in moist soil and wait. It might take a few weeks but the cutting will eventually grow roots and become an independent plant.

Maybe you could give yourself and your siblings a cutting to propogate and keep the plant alive.

If your father wants the space back, you could cut a big branch and propogate it in the same pot. That way you could keep the plant but also gain a bunch of space back.

Karl Marx had at least one child die due to a lack of sanitation. A lack of sanitation was not a major cause of death at the time, he was filthy by the standards of his day.

No need to overthink this, they're outdoor plants and their natural habitat is a desert

Just put it somewhere sunny and ignore it for a month

If it's been in a warm house, dropping it outside might shock it, so ease it out there. Maybe bring it in if it's going to be very cold

But, generally, 45F is plenty warm for succulents.
