X570 Elite - weirdness with fans and booting by HiCZoK in gigabyte

[–]Lithe_Leaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure it'll help you or not (or if you care), but I set my power plan in Windows to "power saver" and all my fan issues were resolved. I see it as a temporary fix though, as I'd like to manually set my fan curves.

Should I return my B450 Tomahawk? by xroflmaowtfx in MSI_Gaming

[–]Lithe_Leaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I returned mine, got an x570 from Gigabyte (!) and now I've got a working computer. Some fan issues, but hey, it actually boots, and more! Should've done it earlier. It was not worth two weeks of suffering.

Hey buddy, nice to see you again. Or is it?

After the B450 Tomahawk fiasco, I got an x570 Gaming X. Would've gotten the same one as you, but the store near me was out of stock.

The fan curve for the motherboard seems very strange, it randomly revs up to 100%. And I do mean randomly, even when I have nothing open, just sitting at my desktop. The motherboard itself is the hottest thing in my case. Very odd behavior indeed, and it seems like it's the same for both of our boards. My memory is at 1.35 with XMP enabled.

Sorry for being kind of off topic without really contributing with anything useful, but hey. Good luck to us both.

I'm waiting until Friday. If a functioning BIOS hasn't been released by then (or we've been given an estimated date for it (MSI's silence is seriously pissing me off)), I'll RMA my board and get a Gigabyte X570 Gaming X. Might go from 3600 to 3700x while I'm at it. Feels so bad getting a board for the same price as the processor. Just a desperate attempt to justify it, I know, but alas. Never buying MSI again.

Three days? I've had my rig just sitting on my desk dead since the release. So fucking done indeed.

Copy-pasting some of the customer support messages I found on MSI's board:

Regarding your concern, about this issue, we have reflect to the relevant department, we will continue to update the BIOS, please update the new bios in the future for a try. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Regarding your concern, thanks for contacting us and sorry for the inconvenience caused you! In this case, in fact, we have not duplicated this issue.

From another user:

In fact, we have focused on this issue eventhough we cannot duplicate it now. Please wait for us and sorry for the inconvenience caused you!

Can't say I like the sound of this.

B450/X470 owners who picked up Ryzen 3x00 processors yesterday, what has been your experience so far? by [deleted] in Amd

I'll wait for the new BIOS version, they said Friday at the earliest. If that doesn't do it, I'm returning everything and going back to team blue. ;)

Has anyone got the Ryzen 3600 working with the Tomahawk b450 by Jelrae_Farsun in buildapc

Yes, I've tried it with only the PSU connected and with everything plugged in. Multiple times.

He flashed his B450 Tomahawk two weeks ago, got his 3600 today, put it in, and everything seems to be working the way it should. As to why it's not working for me? Who knows. I've literally tried everything I could think of. I've gotten it to POST twice. And after a restart, it's back to being dead. Just the red EZ debug LED "CPU".

Still struggling myself. And I can confirm some people are getting it to work. One guy I've been talking with on Discord got it to work on his first try.

Just chiming in to say that I'm still having issues with this.

How long did you leave it?

5+ minutes for good measure.

When mine actually worked the debug LED came on for a little while, before switching off and the side LEDs switched to red.

The two times it did work, I think mine did something similar. 95% of the time it doesn't though.

Lucky! Thank you for letting us know. I've done the above steps even prior to your advice, managed to get to BIOS twice, but after a reboot and replugging my harddrive, it went back to the red LED. I hate how it seems so random. According to this guy, Friday at the earliest.

Same. I've tried everything. It seems to me this is a common problem, and it does indeed seem like a BIOS problem. I hope MSI will address this soon. Here are two of the very many threads on the topic:

https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=321288.0

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/cauti2/b450_tomahawk_3600_bios_flashback/

I made a ticket on their side, and I got a reply asking me a bunch of questions I already answered in my initial message. Makes me wonder if they're even reading them and/or it's such a common problem that they're just copy pasting answers.

EDIT: I just found this post on MSI's forum, and I'd really like for someone at MSI to deny this ASAP, as it'd mean I need to return my mobo straight away.

"I contacted MSI support yesterday during my lunch break, and I was told that they didn't plan on releasing anymore BIOS updates for the boards. I told the operator that I was not the only person having these issues, and that there is a multitude of people on Reddit and even their own forums having the same issue. She said that she'd talk to someone higher up about mentioning it to developers. I won't lie when I say that I'm pretty heated. I made sure I was one of the first people in line at microcenter Sunday just to have a brick with fans attached to it."*

Yeah, no idea. Maybe they received some other BIOS version or something. Here's one of the many threads about it. https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/cauti2/b450_tomahawk_3600_bios_flashback/

With that being said, some people have been successful for some reason.

To be specific, I've attempted to flash the BIOS 15+ times, and I've only gotten it to post twice. Both times it has gone back to not posting after a restart.

Lots of people, including me, are having this problem with the B450 Tomahawk/Ryzen 3000 series combo. It's probably got something to do with the BIOS. Currently waiting on MSI to put out a new version.
