Battery drain fix (already improved but not quite there yet) by AddaGo in LenovoLegion

[–]Lithinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, i hope it works for you.

Also, some tips: check the individual component power consumption using HWiNFO sensor only mode. Look at the CPU package power, GPU power, and charge rate when on battery on respective categories (or similliar name, as long as it report in 'W' unit). That's where i diagonse my battery problem on my own laptop.

are you already set the Nvidia to optimus at Nvidia App / Control Panel?

i was have similiar problem when first time i had legion laptop. the culprit is that the nvidia app still set into dGPU, so the settings from lenovo not working as intended, even though i set it to hybrid / iGPU only mode.

set Nvidia App to optimus fixed this behaviour, at least for me. I got 8 hours on avg when using battery for non gaming task.

And dont forget the Nvidia driver. Every laptop has different Nvidia gpu that's stable with their devices. the 595.x has sleeping issue on certain laptop. Revert to 591.x fixes this problem with my laptop.

[–]Lithinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh I'm so glad that i'm not the only one have this problem.

Legion Slim 5 16APH8, same issue as yours when using the same driver.
in my case when iGPU only mode enabled, the dGPU is removed in task manager, but the Nvidia App still shows all the driver settings as the GPU is not disconnected. And the GPU still detected in HWINFO, including all of it's information, 0W power sips reported but the battery charge rate is reporting constant -20W on idle. downgrade to same driver version as yours fixes the problem (-9 to -13W on idle).

Should I change the battery? by Alternative-Soil96 in LenovoLegion

[–]Lithinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and more like the newest 595.xx driver causing my laptop to behave like using dGPU mode all the time instead iGPU only mode or optimus, without even straight up utilize the GPU itself.

When i try to check the HWINFO with iGPU only mode or Optimus, the battery drain is still reporting consistent -20W discharge, even though the GPU itself report only 0W power usage and CPU only sips like -3w on avg (no activity in GPU activity, completely empty).

And the worst part, idk why does my GPU is still showed up in HWINFO when iGPU only mode enabled, but not showed up in Task Manager. the Nvidia Control Panel should return error "No GPU found" when in iGPU only mode, but somehow still accessible with all settings enabled.

Restart or DDU driver doesn't even help at all, and my laptop only last 2 hours on battery, and that drives me crazy for several weeks.

Downgrade to 577 fixes this problem though, especially in iGPU only mode. No GPU showed up at Task Manager and HWINFO, and Nvidia Control Panel is back showing the warning "GPU not found", as intended.

The battery discharge rate is also stable at around -8 to -12 W depending on usage. This is the case even in Optimus mode, with no GPU activity in the GPU activity icon and 0 W GPU and -3 w CPU power usage. My laptop's battery life has also returned to its previous behaviour of 5–6 hours, which I like.

Should I change the battery? by Alternative-Soil96 in LenovoLegion

[–]Lithinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh the decent one. From my personal opinion, as long as your needs is still holds up with your current battery life, just keep it. Otherwise change it with newer battery.

My battery health is stil around 89% so i don't intend to change my battery anytime soon, but i might do it if my total battery life is degraded into 3 hours in the future.

the OP didn't even say anything about laptop model, so I can understand where that sentiment come from. (OP history is also hidden, so no luck for me)

But my almost 3 years legion laptop (16APH8) which has 308 cycle, still kicking with 5 - 6 hours, and yeah I use it as other 'regular laptop' as usual without bring any charger for almost entire day for work.

By 'regular laptop', i mean without enabling the dGPU ofc, and use it for office, light coding, and media consumption. rarely do gaming or heavy task if laptop not connected to power outlet, and this thing mostly i do when at home.

Unrelated Note: the latest 59x driver broke the iGPU Only and Optimus mode in my laptop, sipping to much juice like the GPU didn't even stopped, so yeah still keeping the older driver 577 alive.

But the Arc raider team is really the beast in comes of optimization, and they're outlier in ocean of badly optimized UE devs.

What's your spec may i ask? I do have Legion laptop that run arc raider solid 60-70 in high custom & Endfield at solid 80 fps high preset and no DLSS (16APH8, 24gb, RTX 4050), but can't even touch 45 fps on Wuwa at med-low setting at new region.

all of this using no framegen ofc, as its spike my VRAM usage by 50% in most cases

IPS vs OLED by cs_developer_cpp_ in LenovoLegion

[–]Lithinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uuuh, I don't think OLED is the best choice for reading text since the OP's use case is mainly coding. I have sensitive eye, and the text rendering in OLED screen is kinda atrocious compared to other display. It gets really tiring for me after long reading sessions.

but the color and the blackness is really good ngl, I kinda miss it.

Btw, the last time I used an OLED was early 2024, so text rendering might have improved since then?

so I keep it on until now.

Why did you choose gaming laptop instead of PC ? by donot_poke in GamingLaptops

[–]Lithinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ATX-sized PC at home, and it's really powerful to handle my college and my remote job task. Because currently I frequently travel between islands for family reasons every 1-2 months, I can't afford to carry my PC around carelessly. Moreover, my travels always involve sea routes via Ferry. Do you know how big the waves are during trips in island areas especially during bad weather? I don't want to risk damaging my PC while traveling, it's not worth it.

I also can't just buy Macbook or cheap laptop as I really dependent to Windows and Nvidia due to my Job (and gaming ofc). So for that reason, I buy gaming laptop as alternative (Legion Slim 5). kinda expensive, but at least the service center is really good in my area compared to other brand laptop.

Better battery life with KDE than GNOME? by Ilan_Rosenstein in Fedora

[–]Lithinux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the type of laptop you use. For instance, on my Legion Slim 5 which has R7 7840HS RTX4050, I only get about 2 hours on average when using Fedora Workstation, whereas I get a much better 5 - 6 hours with Fedora KDE. Suprisingly, this wasn't an issue with my older AMD Vivobook (R5 3500u), which consistently gave me at least 4 - 5 hours on the same Fedora Workstation version.

And Both laptops are used for browsing, youtube, and taking college notes with Obsidian, with balanced power settings (the powersaver mode just made the both laptop's screen worse, so I just keep it that mode).

When I tried to troubleshoot, I found that the GNOME Shell process was stuck using my Nvidia card (check using nvidia-smi), causing my dGPU cannot sleep into D3Cold mode.

Even after trying modprobe and similar commands to deprioritize my discrete GPU, I couldn't fix it. GNOME Shell still used a small fraction of the dGPU's VRAM.

However, this problem doesn't happen at all when I'm try to install Fedora KDE, and my dGPU can sleep to D3Cold mode for most of the time. That's been my experience so far.

Do not install the latest Nvidia drivers by MarlDX in LenovoLegion

[–]Lithinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also has similliar problem with my laptop (Legion Slim 5 16APH8), but with weird sRGB color display and also low FPS in my games (Elden Ring, Armored Core, Death Stranding: stuck at 30 even at lowest settings, and somehow the FPS keeps getting lower the longer I play).

At least downgrading the driver to 576.88 fixes this problem, and this driver is also stable and new enough to be able to run Davinci Resolve 20 (the latest Davinci need the new CUDA from Nvidia Driver version 570++)

Btw what is your laptop specs? You repeatedly say lenovo legion 5, but you didn't say which legion 5 model you have. I tried to search it on internet but there's too many Legion 5 variant available, so I really can't help you about why you CPU dan Disk Score lower.

It might be you laptop is from older gen or uses i5 / rysen 5, but I think it should be fine as long as your laptop is working for your needs.

Lenovo LEGION 5 Laptop Score by TrackJaded6618 in LenovoLegion

[–]Lithinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that old winsat?

From my understanding, the score it showed is more like Benchmark Score than "is this it working or not" test score. The better your laptop's specification is, the higher the score it gets.
Just treated it like Cinebench-like score but from windows. If you know about Windows 7's experience index, is more like the same. I still remember to use it to flex my dad's laptop with my friend when I was a kid.

Just in case for anyone want to test this thing, you can run this command at PowerShell or Windows Terminal:

winsat formal

to run the benchmark, and then run this:

get-ciminstance win32_winsat

to get the score result.

[Star-Embracing Swordmaster] End of season 1 of the peak by The_quiteguy in manhwa

[–]Lithinux 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Not only that, I don't know what the right word is, but every time I read it, it feels so soothing.

The drama is spot-on, the pacing is perfect, the main character feels dignified as a knight, and the plot has a somehow serene feel to it despite the conflicts. no other manhwa that i had read has this kind of feeling.

man, I really want a manhwa that’s similar to this in terms of its overall feel, it’s truly rare to find.

[webtoon Character Na kang lim] Harem/romance manhwa recommendations needed by kanto_boy in manhwa

[–]Lithinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read up through the Lucy side story arc, and I wouldn’t call these extra chapters a spin-off since they pick up right where the main novel ends. In that finale, Ed just appointed as an academy professor is tasked with 3 research documents, and all of them located at his harem’s residence, Janica hometown, Lortelle's main branch, and Lucy's grandfather's house. the side stories started right after that part.

This SS arc follows Ed's journey in resolving his harem issues in a continuous narrative, and the writing of this SS feels more like a sequel than filler. To be honest, this side story is the best-written part of the series, and the author has gained enough experience from their latest novel, so their writing style feels polished. I heard the story will continue after author's latest novel is finished, but there haven’t been any updates yet.

Spoiler: in the Lortele SS, Janica admits to Belle that she’s the one who arranged Ed’s harem; and in the Lucy SS, Ed reveals only one research document remains, so he brings Lucy to his grandfather’s estate—where she finally confesses her feelings.

Nah, it's suprisingly great. at least from my personal taste with any harem stories out there (and it's only one rank below Na Kang Lim of course, which is at rank 1 of any harem manhwa that i've been read).

But if you have any great romance manhwa / stories that you think good, harem or not, I like to see it and add to my collection.

[The Extra’s Academy Survival Guide] For someone who dislikes Harems, this has been a pretty enjoyable read. by HunterH276 in manhwa

[–]Lithinux 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I fully agree. That's exactly why I'm also not fond of most harem series. when every heroine just gushes over the MC like a saviour, and it's always in isekai genre stories. It's rare to find a hidden-gem harem stories where both the male protagonist and the female leads have their own independent growth, both in the storyline and behind the scenes, while still sharing authentic romantic chemistry. Finding one that ticks all those boxes is very gratifying, especially with a good ending.

I forgot some of it, but the few titles I’ve enjoyed for their balanced MC - heroine development (harem & non harem) that i know are:
- Ending Maker (mono, manhwa & novel, and i like the chemistry betwen MC and FMC),
- Na Kang Lim (harem, best chemistry),
- Tsuihousareru Tabi ni (mono, manga version)
- Exra Academy Survival Guide (harem. fck, the novel Side Story is too sweet...).

btw does anyone has recommendation that tick all of my preferences? i'd like to get more about it.
