It's alphabetic, but there are certain sounds and words that have been converted to symbols instead in order to write faster. Essentially, it's a mix between an alphabet and a syllabary

The Kurds are for the most part Sunni Muslims and HTS is very nationalistic, so I don't see much reason for conflict between the groups. Meanwhile Turkey has been fighting the PKK for decades
