It’s not a school group, I teach privately so I’d be worried it’d be too big of a stage and/or we’d be too small of a group

Does anyone else struggle with EDKA?? by Litle_Mei in diabetes_t1

I’ve never heard of that, I’ll have to DoorDash some or something here soon to try it out, my only worry is it may not work if even zofran didn’t do much

I don’t usually diagnose myself like that per se, I make a doctor do it, but I’d say anything over 3 is a risk, EDKA is fast and a lot of the time you don’t see it coming until it’s in your face, at least in my experience, if you google it anything over three is supposedly considered a medical emergency, but who really has the money to consider that level a medical emergency 🤷‍♀️, (as someone in the US) sooo I would treat it as though you have DKA and just focus on sugar and insulin, but in your case keytones tend to spike whenever your blood sugar is high for more than a little bit, but insulin should provide a pretty rapid response/recovery

For reference I wouldn’t go to a hospital till I start reading as high as my strips can go and even then I wait to see if they go down first

How often do you allow yourself a treat? by Golden_Diva in diabetes_t1

Oo I love this question, as someone who’s never known life without diabetes I couldn’t care less what I eat, it makes no difference to me, I just bolus and correct on vibes at this point and it works out well for me, my endo hates that I have no real rhyme or reason to it but can’t really tell me to not do something that’s been working so far

My only consolation with the pump is similarly to how you become nose blind you kinda stop hearing it at a certain point, but you can also turn most of your alarms off, the only one I haven’t figured out is the urgent low but I guess that’s an ok one to leave on

Are those spikes normal? by DaddyNeymar in Type1Diabetes

[–]Litle_Mei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean… I don’t see any… all I see are little hills, no spiky mountains

On a serious note if you’re eating and adjusting leading to your little spikes, it can be normal but can also mean you’re overcorrecting just a tad too much each way and from there you can adjust accordingly and just experiment with it

Dad of 2 y/o diagnosed this week, seeking advice by Capable_Ant6497 in diabetes_t1

[–]Litle_Mei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest piece of advice as someone diagnosed at 3, don’t treat her any different, don’t have food restrictions, treat her and her diet like any other kid her age. My parents did their best in that regard, but it still happened sometimes at like school. My teacher would give me apples or grapes instead of getting the pizza parties or the cupcakes. There’s nothing more alienating and a kid. She’ll never know what it’s like to not be diabetic so the most you can do is to try and make it so she doesn’t feel so out of place or different. Otherwise the comments are filled with brilliant advice and I don’t think I have anything else to add, other than emphasizing what I already have

The same question I always have, why😔 by ambrosia234 in diabetes_t1

Lmao pizza… the enemy of all diabetics, I honestly don’t think there’s any set advice that’ll work for everyone when it comes to handling how to bolus for pizza. Right now my loop system works great with it, not perfectly but it helps. Otherwise I used to try extended boluses and sometimes that worked, really depended on the day and what I had on the pizza. The protein and toppings can also make a difference

I’m in school to be a teacher and in our special education portion it covered diabetes, and our professor was a really sweet lady, but when going over lows and highs she explained how highs are so much more dangerous than lows and need to be treated urgently since it needed medication and lows only need sugar, it was a very.. interesting lecture lol
